Half Moon Bay Motel

Half Moon Bay Marina Motel is a pleasant experience exceeding our expectations. We and our dog were welcomed with open arms. The rooms are spacious, including kitchen, tidy and well maintained. Good price for our 4 day stay - we will return whenever we are in Auckland. Thank you for making our short holiday that little more relaxed. Especially being able to stroll a short distance to the Marina Fresh Choice for fresh espresso and pastries.

Reading the reviews, I did not want to come to this place but I'm glad I did. Here are some things I noticed. Reception doesn't seem to be manned between 230pm and 3pm, so I don't think there is any point coming early. The lifts are great and the 11th floor hallway smelt fresh. We were in 1108, a suite with balcony (not the additional $10 for a view), and it seemed to me that this category of room was always on a corner, offering interesting views. We were facing north so straight at the Sentinel building which I actually really liked. It's attractive and being scared of heights it made me feel not too high up. We could see Tiritiri out one side and Lake Pupuke on the other, but facing south would have been nice too, getting Rangitoto, sunset and the city lights. Our room was bigger and fresher than I expected, though furniture, carpet, walls and bathroom might not have been changed for a decade. A bit tired but clean. Linens lovely and clean, AC efficient and you can change the temperature and it does what you want. Position of hotel is fantastic. On-street parking nearby and we know Takapuna but were still amazed by the range of quality eateries and shops within 5 minutes walk. The tennis and gym and pool were good on level 2. Both pools were big and heated, ideal temperature for swimming and then relaxing in spa. Staff we interacted with were friendly and efficient, but usually no one was behind the counter. You need to ring the bell. Free coffee and biscuits in reception and nespresso machine with 2 capsules in room as well a generous quality assortment of Dilmah teas, hot choc, coffees etc ( also had dishwasher, clothes washer and clothes dryer such I couldn't get working). Thank you Spencer Hotel! I hope to stay again one day!
Onetangi Beach Apartments

I am aware that the apartments are all individually owned, so this review is only about apartment number 9. The apartment is tired and in need of some repairs. Some of the slats were missing from the blinds in the lounge area. Half of the wardrobe in the main bedroom was locked, so very little space to put your clothes. The bed in the second room is lumpy and the blind does not close properly. Half of the cupboards in the kitchen are locked. It seems like the owners do not really want people staying in their apartment. The microwave is so high that I had to stand on a chair to be able to use it, fine if you are over 6 feet tall though! The housekeeping service was provided daily, but they did no cleaning and only changed towels, topped up toilet rolls and made the bed. There was a small dustpan and brush, but nothing else to enable us to keep the floor clean of sand. The apartments are ideally located, only a couple of minutes to the beach, but because it is quite a gritty sand we were constantly walking it back in to the apartment.

Great place to stay. Cannot fault the room - studio with good bed and good bathroom. The small cooking area is nice to have but you dont reallty need it - there are lots of places to eat minutes away. The spa pools are good to use even in winter . Room had a good table/desk for some work. Reception staff were charming.

I was very happy with my stay at the Carnmore Hotel Takapuna. I stayed 1 nights at the end of my trip to New Zealand. I arrived very early by bus. I was dropped off a block from the hotel. Ajin was wonderful. He allowed me to store my bag until my room was ready. He also recommended a nice coffee shop that was within easy walking distance. The beach is 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The downtown is relaxed. It has cute shops and plenty of services. Easy access to Auckland by transit. The room was large with a kitchette, a huge window and a small deck. The bathroom was smooth dark, stone tile. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. Krystal was at the front desk in the morning. She was very friendly and helpful, when I asked for directions. Thanks for a lovely stay😊

Loved staying in our villa looking out over the ocean. Would love to stay here again if I'm ever in the Auckland area

We stayed a night before a trip and overnight on Tiritiri Matangi. Even before we arrived we felt valued customers as we were call to confirm arrival details. Beautiful room (upgraded from our original booking), spotlessly clean room with many thoughtful touches that went the ‘extra mile’. Owner went out of their way to get us access to plug in our EV (ICE car parked in EV park ☹️). Owner’s also gave us ideas for morning walk and the wonder coffee cart at little Manly from 6am.

Disclaimer: Waiheke Island Resort management will likely refute this review point-by-point, but rest assured they’ll never be on site or do anything to correct the issues that led to the criticism. Waiheke Island is beautiful so enjoy the view, because that’s all you’re likely to enjoy at this place. Waiheke Island Resort has it all: resort in name only, closed ammenities, and unserviced rooms. (Please note: they DID make the beds in one of our rooms, once. But nothing else.) Have a fetish for smoke damaged rooms? They’ve got you covered. Want to book two rooms on the same reservation but ensure you’re on apposite ends of the property? WIR is the place to be. Dead palms? Check Rubbish under the deck? Check Staff without a single care or answer? Check and check Courtesy vans? They’ve got two but don’t expect to ride in one. Electric bikes? The signs say ‘yes’ the people say ‘no’. Food? Not if you’re visiting on a day that ends in ‘y’. Weddings? Let me get a divorce lawyer ready for you on speed dial. This place has so much potential, but for now that’s all it has. Let’s hope they put some money into the unheated pool with cracks so large you’d be right to ask if the property was somehow, no matter how scientifically impossible, damaged in the Kaikoura or Christchurch quakes. Or they could address the many many many steps throughout the place that need attention. The most radical thought? For less than $100 they could ensure rooms have cups and plates. (Especially when the “resort” restaurant isn’t open and the nearest shop is a 1.3km walk from the “resort”.) You’d hope the people working here (note: don’t expect anyone on site outside of 10am - 4pm on those pesky days ending in ‘y’) would care enough to try a bit harder or at least proactively suggest local restaurants or things to do given NOTHING IS OPEN OR AVAILABLE DURING PEAK SEASON AT THIS RESORT but, again, no. No a million times over. Most importantly— and this is the most serious criticism— this property is not for ANYONE with any kind of mobility challenges: you will be required to walk up and down significant inclines and there IS NO ASSISTANCE provided for you or your luggage. Not an issue for us but I would have been incandescent if parents or a mobility-challenged individual were with us. So, re-sort your holiday plans if this is the “resort” on your list for all the reasons above and more.
