Singapore Arrival Card for Malaysians: 2026 SGAC Guide

Gambar Profil Penulis

Travelling from Malaysia to Singapore? Before your trip, you will usually need to complete the Singapore Arrival Card, also known as the SG Arrival Card or SGAC.

The SG Arrival Card is a free electronic arrival declaration managed by Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). It includes your travel information and electronic health declaration.

For most Malaysian short-term visitors, SGAC is required whether you arrive by:

  • ✈️ Plane
  • 🚗 Car
  • 🚌 Bus
  • 🚆 Train
  • ⛴️ Ferry or other sea transport

You must submit it within three days before arriving in Singapore, including your arrival day.

Here is everything Malaysian travellers need to know.

👤 Who Needs a Singapore Arrival Card?

Marina Bay Sands, Singapore Via Unsplash (by Hu Chen)

Malaysian citizens visiting Singapore as short-term visitors generally need to submit an SG Arrival Card each time they enter Singapore and clear immigration.

✅ You usually need SGAC if you:

  • Drive from Johor Bahru or Kuala Lumpur into Singapore
  • Take a cross-border bus through Woodlands or Tuas
  • Fly from Kuala Lumpur, Penang or another Malaysian airport to Singapore
  • Enter Singapore by train
  • Arrive by ferry or other sea transport

For example, if you drive from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore via the Causeway, you should submit the SG Arrival Card before reaching the immigration checkpoint.

⚠️ What about the land-checkpoint exemption?

This exemption often causes confusion.

Singapore citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents and eligible Long-Term Pass holders may be exempt from submitting SGAC when entering through Woodlands or Tuas.

However, this exemption does not normally apply to Malaysian tourists or other foreign short-term visitors.

Can Malaysians use MyKad instead of a passport?

No.

Your MyKad is not a replacement for your Malaysian passport when entering Singapore as a visitor.

You should travel with a valid passport that generally has at least six months of remaining validity.

MyICA also offers QR-code immigration clearance at some land checkpoints, but this is a separate system. The QR code is linked to passport information.

👉 Important: Your SG Arrival Card confirmation and your MyICA immigration QR code are not the same thing.

🗓️ How long can Malaysians stay in Singapore?

Malaysian passport holders generally do not need a Singapore entry visa for ordinary short visits.

However, do not assume that every Malaysian visitor automatically receives a fixed 30-day or 90-day stay.

Your permitted period of stay is determined by Singapore immigration when you enter.

After immigration clearance, check your electronic Visit Pass, or e-Pass, which shows the last day you are allowed to remain in Singapore.

📱 Step-by-Step: How to Submit the SG Arrival Card Online

You can submit your Singapore Arrival Card using either:

Submission through the official ICA system is free.

⚠️ Be careful with third-party websites that charge “application”, “service” or “processing” fees.

⏰ When should you submit it?

You can submit SGAC within three days before your arrival date, including the arrival day.

For most travellers, submitting it around 48–72 hours before departure is convenient.

Do not submit it too early because applications outside ICA’s permitted window may not be accepted.

💻 Option 1: Submit through the ICA website

Step 1: Select “Foreign Visitors”

Malaysian tourists and other short-term visitors should choose the foreign visitor option.

Step 2: Enter your passport details

Copy the details exactly from your passport.

You may need to provide information such as:

  • Full name
  • Passport number
  • Nationality
  • Date of birth
  • Passport expiry date

🔎 Double-check your passport number.

Do not enter your MyKad number in the passport field.

Step 3: Enter your travel information

Add your Singapore arrival details.

For example:

Flying from Kuala Lumpur:
Enter your KUL–SIN flight details.

Driving from Johor Bahru:
Select the relevant land-arrival information.

Arriving by ferry:
Enter the vessel or sea-arrival information requested by the form.

Step 4: Enter your Singapore address

Provide the address where you will stay.

This may be:

  • 🏨 Hotel
  • 🏠 Friend or relative's home
  • 🏢 Serviced apartment
  • 🛏️ Other accommodation

Use your Singapore accommodation address rather than your Malaysian home address where the form asks for your Singapore stay.

Step 5: Complete the health declaration

Answer all current health and travel-history questions accurately.

If your health status changes before you arrive in Singapore, update your information using ICA's Update SGAC function.

Step 6: Review and submit

Before clicking submit, check:

✅ Passport number
✅ Full name
✅ Arrival date
✅ Accommodation
✅ Email address
✅ Transport details

After successful submission, you should receive an acknowledgement through the contact information entered in the form.

📲 Option 2: Use the MyICA app

The MyICA app follows a similar process.

For frequent travellers, it can be more convenient because saved traveller profiles may reduce repeated data entry.

This can be especially useful for Malaysians who travel frequently between Johor and Singapore.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Travelling with family?

Use ICA's Group Submission option when several people are travelling together on the same trip.

This can save time when entering information for:

  • Couples
  • Families
  • Children
  • Infants
  • Small travel groups

Each traveller still needs their own correct passport information.

📸 Suggested image for this section:
Add annotated screenshots showing the passport-details page, arrival information, accommodation field and health declaration.

Suggested alt text:
Singapore Arrival Card online form for Malaysian travellers showing passport and arrival information fields.

🧳 Required Documents and Printable Checklist

You do not need a huge document folder to submit SGAC.

However, preparing everything before you start can prevent errors.

✅ Singapore Arrival Card Checklist

Before submitting, prepare:

  • 📕 Valid Malaysian passport
  • 🔢 Passport number
  • 👤 Full name exactly as shown on passport
  • 🎂 Date of birth
  • 🌏 Nationality
  • 📅 Passport expiry date
  • 🛬 Singapore arrival date
  • ✈️ Flight, vehicle or ferry information where applicable
  • 🏨 Singapore accommodation address
  • 📧 Valid email address
  • 📱 Contact number where requested
  • 🩺 Health declaration information
  • 🎫 Return or onward travel details where relevant

After submission, save:

  • ✅ SGAC acknowledgement
  • 📧 Confirmation email
  • 📄 PDF confirmation if available

👶 What about children and infants?

Children and infants must also have their own valid travel documents.

A parent or responsible adult can submit their SG Arrival Card information on their behalf.

When entering a child's details:

  • Use the child's passport number
  • Use the child's date of birth
  • Use the child's nationality
  • Do not copy the parent's passport details

The pictures online were a bit misleading. When I booked for 3 people with 3 breakfasts, it showed a king-size bed with a sofa bed, but upon arrival, there was only one king-size bed. It was quite a squeeze for three of us. When we tried to communicate with the hotel, there was a Chinese-speaking woman who refused to speak Chinese, which was frustrating. We had to contact Trip.com customer service, who said there were no other rooms available. We then tried to communicate with the hotel again to ask for a sofa bed. The hotel said they would charge for it, and it worked out to be over 500 RMB per day, which for 6 days felt unreasonable. In the end, we reluctantly squeezed into one bed. Although we managed to sleep, it wasn't comfortable, and the bed was extremely soft, leaving us feeling tired. The hotel facilities are relatively new, and the room is quite large, especially the bathroom. The shower pressure was excellent, but the water flow from the sink was a bit weak – a suggestion for improvement. The hotel is about a 7-minute walk from MRT Exit 4, but getting into the station itself takes another 7 minutes or so. We used the subway for all our outings, and it was quite convenient. The hotel breakfast wasn't extensive, but it was enough to fill up on if you took your time. The omelets were delicious and made fresh. Fruits and vegetables are very expensive in Singapore supermarkets, so we tried to make the most of breakfast at the hotel, where we could enjoy plenty of fruits, vegetables, and salads. Of course, if you want to eat out, it's also very convenient. There's a Great Wall shopping mall about a 10-minute walk away with many dining options. The hotel is right next to the Singapore River. You can walk through the hotel to get to the river and then stroll along it in the evening towards Merlion Park. Along the way, you'll pass two popular Jumbo Seafood restaurants, which are delicious but quite expensive and always packed with people. There are also many other dining establishments along the way, and the night view is beautiful. Hotel prices fluctuate a lot, so keep a close eye on them, even if you've locked in a rate, it can change. It takes about 1.5 hours to get to Changi Airport by MRT. Overall, it's a decent hotel. There are a lot of foreigners staying here, and I saw many adorable foreign children. If you're looking for a spacious, modernly decorated hotel, this could be a good choice.

First time visit to Singapore. Lovely hotel. Great location, bonus of an outdoor pool that we used early one morning. Rooms very clean, beds super comfy. Immaculately clean. All staff super friendly and helpful with recommendations and directions. Concierge’s always available to sort taxis and help too. Didn’t book breakfast as do many food options close by. Nice touch was at check in they brought out birthday muffins, not just for me but for my two teenagers too. Great introduction. What’s not to love? Will be back.

My stay at Marina Bay Sands Singapore was absolutely fantastic and I highly recommend it! The hotel's location is excellent, directly connected to a mall, and within walking distance of famous attractions like Gardens by the Bay and Merlion Park, making getting around incredibly convenient. Check-in was efficient, and the staff were warm and professional, providing attentive service throughout, truly reflecting a five-star hotel experience. The room was spacious and comfortable, with a modern design and immaculate cleanliness. The bed was soft, and the soundproofing was excellent, ensuring a wonderfully comfortable night's sleep. What truly impressed me most was the room's view – whether it was the city skyline or the Marina Bay night view, both were absolutely stunning. The hotel's infinity pool definitely lives up to its reputation; the views are unforgettable and it's an absolute must-visit spot when in Singapore. The breakfast spread was extensive, with a great variety of both Western and Asian options, all of which tasted delicious. Overall, everything from the environment and facilities to the service was impeccable. It was a very enjoyable and memorable stay. If I ever visit Singapore again, I will definitely choose this hotel, and I'll be recommending it to all my friends and family!

This is an honest review of Carlton Hotel Singapore, where my mother and I stayed in the second week of August! I'll summarize what I felt during my stay. Floor: I requested a high floor when booking, but unfortunately, it wasn't accommodated, and we were assigned the 8th floor. However, the room condition was pleasant, so we didn't experience much inconvenience during our stay. Bed Type: The room type was an Executive Room. We requested twin beds so my mom and I could sleep comfortably, and they provided a room with two beds, which was perfect. The bedding was fresh, and the mattress was soft, so we slept soundly every night. Deposit & Cancellation Period: A deposit of $200 (SGD) is authorized upon check-in. Even if you use paid services, they are not deducted from the deposit; you pay for them separately upon check-out. It's been about 3 days since we checked out, and the deposit cancellation hasn't been processed yet, likely because it's an overseas authorization. It usually takes a few days to 1-2 weeks depending on the card company, so it's best to wait patiently. Bathroom & Amenities: Toothpaste and toothbrushes were provided, and shampoo, body wash, and conditioner were well-stocked, which we used comfortably throughout our stay. A hairdryer was also available. Cleaning & Refill: If you press the 'Please Clean Up' switch in the room, they will clean the room and replenish water, towels, toothpaste, and toothbrushes generously every time. Tip for Bedding Change: If you want to have the bed sheets completely changed, make sure to place the green sign provided in the room on the bed, and they will replace them with fresh bedding. Upon arriving at night, the magnificent glass chandelier stretching across the lobby ceiling immediately caught my eye. The high ceiling and luxurious feel made a great first impression. The swimming pool is quite small. However, Singapore's weather is extremely hot and humid, so people were constantly in the water regardless of the time of day. It was sufficient for cooling down and chilling out lightly during the day or evening. Gym: Across the swimming pool, there's a gym. It was clean and a simple hotel gym, perfect for a light workout. Breakfast/Hotel Dining: I didn't book breakfast because of the pressure to wake up early to eat breakfast when traveling. Instead of using the hotel's breakfast, lunch, or dinner buffets, we creatively handled our meals with delivery food and restaurants in nearby shopping malls. Raffles City Shopping Mall: The Raffles City shopping mall right next to the hotel was incredibly convenient! The restaurant and food court options were so good that we often went to Raffles City for our meals during our stay. Room Service: On the first night, we arrived at the hotel around 10-11 PM and were tired, so we ordered room service. The food tasted really delicious and satisfying, but as expected with Singapore prices, it was quite expensive. The taste is guaranteed, so it might be nice to use it once for a treat! Location & Transportation: On the map, I thought Merlion Park was within walking distance, but Singapore's August weather was hotter and more humid than I imagined, so walking was definitely not an option. Instead, there were well-located bus stops near the hotel, and we consistently took buses to major attractions, including Merlion Park. The routes were so well-established that we got around very conveniently. When it's hot, always use public transport! This was a trip with my mom, and thanks to the nearby shopping mall, meals were convenient. Overall, it was a satisfying hotel stay. I recommend it to anyone looking for a well-located accommodation in the heart of Singapore.

I visited Singapore in the last week of August and chose the Wyndham Hotel after sifting through many options, mainly because the price was right. The hotel lobby is on the 6th floor, and the facilities are pretty good. The room wasn't as small as some reviews suggested; at least it was bigger than similarly priced rooms in Hong Kong, although the bathroom was a bit cramped. The breakfast selection wasn't sparse, but it wasn't really to my taste. It was fine for a day or two, but I started to get tired of it after that. During my stay in Singapore, what I appreciated most about the Wyndham Hotel was its excellent location. You can walk to Fort Canning Park, the Old Hill Street Police Station, Clarke Quay, and Merlion Park. Chinatown, Sentosa, and Mandai Wildlife Reserve are all directly accessible by subway. Being near City Hall MRT station, it’s really in a prime area. Overall, for about S$1500 a night, staying at the Wyndham Hotel in Singapore was a decent choice and I would recommend it.

Our family trip has just ended, and both my parents and children were very happy with this hotel. When I first chose it, location was a key factor. Of course, several other hotels nearby were also close, but this one was about a 10-minute walk to the Merlion. The second major factor was the lobby and the hotel's design – this was the deciding point. The completely open-plan design gives a comfortable, airy, and resort-like feel. There are abundant green plants interspersed throughout the floors, which both my mother and child loved taking photos of. Third, since we were traveling with a child, we needed to push two twin beds together, and the movable twin bed design made this very easy. Upon arrival, the hotel lived up to our expectations. The design is excellent, and the views are superb. I'd recommend choosing a room facing Marina Bay Sands if possible; if you can't see the bay, you might as well stay a bit further away. Another pleasant surprise was the swimming pool. It's perfect for kids and for sunbathing in peace. The environment is calm and refreshing, and staff promptly clear up after previous swimmers. The pool is definitely a big plus for this hotel. Regarding the breakfast, although the hotel is near a mall with connecting access, after exploring, we found there weren't many options suitable for children. While the breakfast was just okay, we still stuck with it, which greatly eased the decision-making for those with choice paralysis. Overall, this hotel is highly recommended for family trips. The design is first-rate, and the service is quite excellent.

This hotel is a peaceful retreat in the bustling city center, with a vintage-style lobby. The room itself is indeed on the smaller side, but the bathroom is quite spacious and well-equipped. I highly recommend the hotel's breakfast buffet; it offers a wide variety of options including Chinese, Indian, and Western dishes, all delicious and great value for money. One feature I especially loved was the water dispenser with adjustable temperature settings. The room was relatively spacious, which I really liked. The bathroom even had a bathtub, and we had a view of a church from the window. It's in a quiet location. The service was quite good, and they offered luggage storage. If you exit the hotel and turn left, you'll find the Esplanade MRT station (Exit A) on the Circle Line. There's a laundry room on the 4th floor; washing and drying costs 10 SGD, and you can get coins at the front desk on the ground floor. I didn't get to check out the pool. If you haven't booked breakfast, there are shops across from the hotel where you can grab a bite.

Would like to preface by saying, if you’re a Singaporean citizen. BRING YOUR PHYSICAL DOCUMENTS! If you try and check in with SingPass, they won’t allow you. They don’t make this clear ANYWHERE. And they give you a nasty face as if you’re supposed to know that they’ve only recently changed their policies. Overall still a very nice stay. They changed my room without notice though. I booked the room with the bed on the first floor, but they gave me the bed that’s on the loft. Location is good, can skip the food downstairs.

The lady on duty on the Singapore public holiday after the National Day was a bit crafty. Wanted to charge us $100 for checking in at 14h00, one hour earlier than official checkin. The notices on the counter clearly mentioned it cost $25 for a one hour early checkin. We did not request an early checkin. Then came the carrot. The same lady offered one room with 4 beds instead of the two rooms we had booked with free early checkin. Nice try, but we were not falling for that old trick. My wife is Chinese and she sniffed a rat in that deal instantly when she realised we would be giving up a second bathroom and some privacy of interleading doors between the two rooms we had booked. Pretty sneaky lady that receptionist Very convenient location along the river. Hotel has a leisure pool for a casual dip. Coffee and tea in the room, even a kettle but you guessed it, the only hotel I have ever stayed at that does not provide bottled water in the room. I was a bit worried after reading other reviews, but it turned out to be a very nice hotel. The bed was right there as soon as you opened the door. However, since we were out most of the day, we only used the room for sleeping, so the small size wasn't an issue at all. My suitcase was small too, so spreading it out wasn't a problem, but I imagine it might feel cramped for larger individuals or those with big suitcases. There's no partition between the toilet and shower, so if you don't shower carefully, the toilet can get soaked. We didn't mind this at all and actually enjoyed the unique experience. Perhaps the other guests were well-mannered, as we were able to have a quiet stay in our room. You could hear voices when people walked in the hallway and the sound of doors opening, but otherwise, it was very peaceful and we had a relaxing time. The amenities were well-stocked, and we had everything we needed. There was an empty fridge, instant coffee, and tea, and anything we used was replenished. There's also a convenience store nearby and Isetan is close, so finding food wasn't a problem. Check-in and check-out are done via machines, but when we seemed confused, a staff member came over and helped us. The staff were also very kind when they held our luggage for us. I'm very grateful that everyone assisted us without any hesitation, even though I'm not fluent in English.

Aside from being a ten-minute walk to the MRT station, taking nearly an hour to get to Sentosa (walking plus MRT), and the AC blowing directly on my head, there aren't many downsides. The cleanliness was decent, and the bathroom had a separate wet and dry area. My child mentioned seeing ants in the bathroom, but I'm nearsighted so I didn't spot them. There are many eateries nearby, including the famous frog porridge. In the mornings, you can even see several crates of large, vibrant green, lively frogs displayed outside their shop. 📝 Simple family template

You can prepare this before filling in the form:

Traveller Name | Passport Number | Expiry Date | Date of Birth | SGAC Submitted

Example:

Parent 1 | A12345678 | 2029-05-10 | 1988-03-12 | ✅

Child 1 | B12345678 | 2028-07-21 | 2018-09-08 | ✅

This makes group submissions much easier.

📲 Save your confirmation offline

Save your SGAC acknowledgement on your phone before travelling.

Good options include:

  • Screenshot
  • PDF file
  • Email
  • Cloud storage
  • Phone wallet or offline documents folder

This can be useful if mobile coverage is weak at the border.

However, ICA does not generally require travellers to carry a printed SGAC confirmation because the submission is electronically linked to your travel details.

💡 Tip: Keep your passport and SGAC acknowledgement easy to access while travelling.

🔧 Processing, Confirmation and Common SGAC Errors

The SG Arrival Card is not a visa application.

That means you normally do not need to wait several days for an approval decision.

After a successful submission, ICA provides an acknowledgement.

📧 What should you receive?

Depending on the submission method, you may be able to access:

  • Confirmation email
  • Submission acknowledgement
  • SGAC PDF
  • Submitted declaration in MyICA

Your acknowledgement may also contain a Disembarkation/Embarkation number, often called a D/E number.

After immigration clearance, foreign visitors receive an e-Pass.

Your e-Pass is important because it shows your permitted length of stay in Singapore.

❌ Didn't receive a confirmation?

Try these steps:

  1. 📩 Check your spam or junk folder.
  2. 🔍 Check whether you entered the correct email address.
  3. 📱 Open MyICA and check submitted declarations.
  4. 📝 Confirm that your arrival date is correct.
  5. 🔁 Use the Update SGAC function where appropriate.
  6. ☎️ Contact ICA if the problem remains unresolved.

⚠️ Common SG Arrival Card mistakes

Some of the most common errors include:

  • Entering a MyKad number instead of a passport number
  • Typing the wrong passport number
  • Selecting the wrong arrival date
  • Using details from an expired passport
  • Entering an inaccessible email address
  • Choosing incorrect transport details
  • Forgetting to update health information

✏️ What if you entered something incorrectly?

Use ICA's Update SGAC function where the information can be amended.

If the error affects essential travel information, make sure the declaration matches the trip you are actually taking.

🛂 What if you reach Singapore without confirmation?

Have your passport and travel itinerary ready.

You can tell the immigration officer:

“I submitted my SG Arrival Card, but I cannot retrieve the acknowledgement. Here is my passport and travel information. Could you please help me verify the submission?”

Be ready to show:

  • Passport
  • Flight or transport details
  • Accommodation information
  • Screenshot of any error
  • SGAC confirmation if available

✈️ Transit Rules, Privacy and Special Cases

🔄 Do transit passengers need SGAC?

Not always.

If you are flying from Malaysia through Singapore and remain inside the airport transit area without clearing Singapore immigration, you generally do not need to submit an SG Arrival Card.

For example:

Kuala Lumpur → Singapore → Tokyo

If you remain airside at Changi Airport and transfer directly to your next flight, you normally do not need SGAC.

However, you may need to submit SGAC if you have to:

  • 🧳 Collect checked baggage
  • 🛂 Clear Singapore immigration
  • 🏨 Stay overnight landside
  • 🎫 Check in again outside the transit zone
  • 🚪 Enter Singapore for several hours

The same rule applies to short visits.

Even if you only enter Singapore for a few hours, SGAC is generally required once you clear immigration.

🔐 What happens to your SGAC data?

ICA collects personal and travel information for immigration and government purposes.

ICA's public privacy information does not specify one universal fixed retention period for SG Arrival Card records.

Instead, personal information is generally retained as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected or for official government purposes.

Travellers who want to request access to or correction of personal information can use ICA's official enquiry or feedback channels.
