If you’re looking for a quick tropical escape in Malaysia, Redang Island is definitely one place I’d recommend. The first thing you’ll notice is the water, clear enough to spot colorful fish swimming around, with soft white sand and that postcard-like turquoise sea. 🌊🐠
What I love about Redang is that you don’t need to plan a super packed itinerary. You can spend the morning snorkeling, chill by the beach in the afternoon, then catch the sunset with a cold drink in hand. 🍹🌅 It’s the kind of place where you naturally slow down and enjoy the moment. And if you’re into marine life, Redang is even better. The island is known for its beautiful coral reefs, colourful tropical fish and chances to spot sea turtles, making it a popular choice for snorkeling and diving.

📅 Best Time to Visit Redang Island
If you ask me when’s the best time to visit Redang Island, I’d say: go during the dry season, when the sea is calm and the weather is more suitable for island activities. ☀️🏝️
Redang is generally best visited from around March to October, when you’ll have better chances of sunny days, clearer waters and good conditions for snorkeling and diving. This is also when most resorts and boat services operate normally. From around November to February, the northeast monsoon brings heavier rain and rougher seas to the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. 🌧️Many resorts may close during this period, and ferry services can also be affected, so it’s not the most ideal time for a Redang getaway.

For me, the biggest reason to visit Redang is the SEA. 🐠 If you’re planning to spend most of your trip snorkeling or diving, April to August is a good period to consider, as the weather and sea conditions are generally more favorable.

🐠 Things to Do on Redang Island
🤿 1. Go Snorkeling
This is probably the must-do activity in Redang. 🐠🌊 The water around the island is clear, and you can spot plenty of colorful fish, coral reefs and, if you’re lucky, even sea turtles. You can join a snorkeling trip arranged by your resort or head to some of the popular snorkeling spots around the island. Even if you’re not a strong swimmer, don’t worry too much! Many tours provide life jackets and basic snorkeling equipment.

It’s a great place to swim, relax, take photos and simply enjoy the island atmosphere. The beach can get lively, especially during peak periods, but that’s also part of its charm. For anyone who loves snorkeling, Redang Marine Park is one spot you shouldn’t miss. 🤿🐠 The surrounding waters are home to colorful fish, coral reefs and other marine life. It’s a popular stop on snorkeling tours, so you’ll usually find plenty of visitors coming here to explore the underwater world.
Remember to follow the marine park rules: don’t touch the coral, don’t feed the fish and keep your distance from marine animals. The underwater scenery is beautiful enough without us disturbing it.

I read a lot of reviews before coming, so my expectations weren't too high. But after arriving, I found that besides the high price, everything else was truly excellent. Our hotel was the only one on the entire beach, so if you like fewer crowds, this is the place to go. Bryan was fantastic; he sent us all the hotel activities and restaurant information upon arrival, and he was very quick to respond to any requests. Every staff member at the hotel greeted us with a smile and a warm hello. We brought our child, and they even sent snacks to our room every day. The scenery is absolutely stunning. The hotel is located in the northern part of the island village, close to the beach. The public beach is about a 20-minute walk along a forested path suitable for cars and motorcycles. There are only two public piers on the island. One is located in the south, where islanders travel. You need to disembark from this pier to reach the hotel. The hotel provides a shuttle for 10 renminbi per person. The other pier is located in the east, where there are more hotels, a more beautiful beach, and complete facilities. It's also popular with tourists, so it's best to book a hotel there, such as Laguna, but it's difficult to book well in advance. Dribam is like a Chinese farmhouse, with rooms built on stilts on the hillside, made of wood and concrete. The surrounding ecology is pleasant, with small animals. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in the open-air restaurant. Beware of monkeys when dining; they stole our bread during breakfast.DariRM265

The doors is disgusting. Feel so uncomfortable. We wash our hair at the pool shower area.
There isn't any choice of food. Only the coffeehouse limited food.
If wants to go to Long Beach for more choice of food will cost Rm50/per head boat.

Initially hesitant due to the 3.2 rating, we booked as it was the only available option, but it turned out to be the best decision.From the warm yet respectful service by Wei to meeting the humble owners Adrian and his wife, everything felt genuine and comfortable. The food was outstanding (we truly miss the food!) honestly among the best we had in Redang.The beachfront view was amazing, white sand and turquoise sea right in front of our room. Simple, raw island vibes, clean rooms, and a truly heartfelt experience for our family.
A small note: the toilet flooring could use an upgrade, but we understand refurbishment is already underway with the new management.Not a “luxury” resort, but definitely 5-star in heart, service, and overall experience.We’ll definitely be back. Thank you for making us feel at home!DariRM652

On our first day, the coffee machine wasn't working, and the bed sheets had a few stains. We mentioned it to the staff, and they immediately came to fix the coffee machine and replace the sheets. The issue was handled quickly and professionally, which gave us confidence that they genuinely cared about their guests.
Throughout our stay, everyone—including the hotel manager—was incredibly attentive. They regularly checked in to ask if everything was okay, whether we needed anything, and if we were enjoying the food. We always felt well looked after.
Before arriving, we were a little worried because we had read some rather mixed reviews online, especially considering the price. However, our experience was completely different. The food was excellent, the facilities were well maintained, and the staff went above and beyond to help us with everything—even assisting us in finding a nearby clinic when we needed one.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay and felt very comfortable throughout. We would happily recommend Peridot Resort to anyone visiting Redang Island.DariRM1,414

Wonderful vacation, very authentic place. Complete minimalism in the rooms, but everything you need is there. Air conditioning, shower and a couple of beds. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves is amazing! Special thanks to the hotel administrator and all the service staff. Very responsive guys!
The food is delicious, the prices are pleasant, the atmosphere is calm and peaceful. Very happy with the vacation!

The food was outstanding (we truly miss the food!) honestly among the best we had in Redang.The beachfront view was amazing, white sand and turquoise sea right in front of our room. Simple, raw island vibes, clean rooms, and a truly heartfelt experience for our family.

On our first day, the coffee machine wasn't working, and the bed sheets had a few stains. We mentioned it to the staff, and they immediately came to fix the coffee machine and replace the sheets. The issue was handled quickly and professionally, which gave us confidence that they genuinely cared about their guests.
Throughout our stay, everyone—including the hotel manager—was incredibly attentive. They regularly checked in to ask if everything was okay, whether we needed anything, and if we were enjoying the food. We always felt well looked after.
Before arriving, we were a little worried because we had read some rather mixed reviews online, especially considering the price. However, our experience was completely different. The food was excellent, the facilities were well maintained, and the staff went above and beyond to help us with everything—even assisting us in finding a nearby clinic when we needed one.

Our hotel was the only one on the entire beach, so if you like fewer crowds, this is the place to go. Bryan was fantastic; he sent us all the hotel activities and restaurant information upon arrival, and he was very quick to respond to any requests. For most travelers from Kuala Lumpur, the usual route is: Kuala Lumpur → Kuala Terengganu → Jetty → Redang Island 🏝️
✈️ 1. Fly to Kuala Terengganu
The easiest option, especially if you’re travelling from Kuala Lumpur, is to take a flight to Sultan Mahmud Airport (TGG) in Kuala Terengganu. The flight itself is relatively short, so this is a good choice if you don’t want to spend too much time on the road. Once you arrive, you’ll need to continue to one of the jetties for your boat transfer to Redang.
🚗 2. Travel to the Jetty
Most visitors get to Redang via Merang Jetty, although the exact departure point depends on your resort or ferry package. From Kuala Terengganu Airport, you can arrange a taxi, private transfer or other transport to the jetty. 🚗
🔍 My tip: If your resort package includes airport and jetty transfers, take advantage of it. It makes the whole journey much less stressful, especially if it’s your first time visiting Redang.
🚤 3. Take a Boat to Redang Island
From the jetty, you’ll take a boat transfer to Redang Island. The journey usually takes around 30–60 minutes, depending on your departure point, sea conditions and where your resort is located. This is also when the holiday starts to feel real. Once you’re out on the water with the sea breeze and blue ocean around you, you’ll probably be reaching for your phone to take photos. 📸
🚌 Can I Travel to Redang by Bus?
Yes! If you’re travelling on a tighter budget, taking a long-distance bus from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu is another option.
