What exactly is the Tokyo Game Show?

Since its debut in 1996, the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) has grown into a massive annual celebration of gaming, hosted at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba—just a short trip from the heart of Tokyo. Standing tall alongside Europe’s Gamescom, it’s a premier destination for global gaming showcases and a vibrant hub for industry connection.
While Western events often center on PC and console blockbusters, TGS offers a unique deep dive into Japanese RPGs (JRPGs), anime-inspired titles, mobile gaming, and cutting-edge virtual reality. It’s also legendary for its massive indie developer showcase and its vibrant, dedicated cosplay community.
How to Experience TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026: Your Guide to Tickets 🎫

Heads up! You'll need to book your tickets online ahead of time, as there won't be any available for purchase at the gates on the day of the event.
To guarantee your spot, make sure to snag your tickets on Trip.com for each specific day you're planning to visit.
- Mark your calendars! Tickets go on sale July 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM (UTC+8).
- How to Book: Snag your daily passes directly on the Trip.com TGS Booking Page.
Weekend tickets for the general public tend to disappear in a flash, so I’d definitely suggest setting a calendar alert for when they go on sale!
TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026: Dates, Times, and Where to Go

- Venue: Makuhari Messe (Halls 1–11, International Conference Hall, and TKP Tokyo Bay Makuhari Hall).

Which Games and Exhibitors Are Confirmed for TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026?

TGS 2026 Lineup (AIGC image; please note that some exhibitors and games may not be available)
The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) has officially confirmed that 759 exhibitors will be joining the excitement at TGS 2026, featuring a fantastic mix of 484 domestic Japanese companies and 275 international organizations.
While publishers usually announce their specific playable demo titles closer to the event, the official exhibitor lineup is already packed with major industry giants:
- Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation): Making a grand return to the main exhibition floor with an impressive setup to spotlight their latest hardware and highly anticipated upcoming titles.
- Capcom: Famous for showcasing highly anticipated playable demos for blockbuster franchises like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.
- Sega / Atlus: Get ready for some incredible JRPGs and action-packed titles that are sure to steal the show!
- Square Enix: Get a sneak peek at upcoming projects, the latest updates, and must-have merchandise.
- Bandai Namco, Koei Tecmo, and Konami are all set to make a splash, bringing us major anime adaptations, high-stakes competitive titles, and massive, must-see interactive booths.
- Game Freak: The legendary developer behind the mainline Pokémon series is officially confirmed as a general exhibitor!
- Selected Indie 80: Supported by industry sponsors, this dedicated section gives 80 selected independent global developers free booth space to showcase their most creative, boundary-pushing indie titles.
Heads up: As usual, Nintendo won't have a public booth on the floor, though they’ll still be busy behind the scenes with business meetings and supporting select indie projects.
Must-Do Experiences at Tokyo Game Show 2026
With so many massive exhibition halls to explore, making the most of your time is essential. Here are the must-see experiences you won't want to miss:
- Play Unreleased Demos: Get a sneak peek at highly anticipated games months before they hit the shelves! If you’ve got your heart set on a major title, make a beeline for that publisher's booth first thing in the morning to snag a seiriken (a numbered priority ticket).
- Explore the Indie Area: The "Selected Indie 80" pavilion showcases some of the most unique gameplay concepts around and gives you the perfect chance to chat directly with the developers.
- Capture the Cosplay: On public days, you'll find dedicated outdoor spaces buzzing with cosplayers in stunningly detailed costumes, bringing your favorite game and anime characters to life. Just remember to always ask politely before snapping a photo!
- Shop Exclusive Merchandise: Many publishers bring limited-edition figures, apparel, and soundtracks that you can only snag at the venue. These treasures often sell out by Sunday night, so make sure to shop early if you've got your heart set on some unique gear!
Level Up Your Tokyo Game Show 2026 Visit with These Pro-Tips
- Choose Your Footwear Wisely: You'll likely be clocking over 15,000 steps a day on unforgiving concrete, so make sure to pack your most supportive athletic shoes!
- Pack a Reliable Power Bank: Between heavy phone usage and crowded networks draining your battery, a high-capacity portable charger is an absolute travel essential.
- Get Ready for the Wait: Demos for the hottest games often have lines stretching from 1 to 3 hours. Pro tip: pack a portable console or a good book to make the time fly by!
- Screenshot Your Tickets and Maps: Mobile data signals inside Makuhari Messe can get super congested, making it tough to load anything on the fly. Do yourself a favor and download your entry QR codes and hall maps to your phone before you even reach the station!
- Skip the Nishi-Funabashi Shuffle: During the morning and evening rush, transferring at Nishi-Funabashi Station can get seriously packed. For a much smoother ride, I always recommend hopping on the direct Keiyo Line from Tokyo Station straight to Kaihin-Makuhari—it’s a total game-changer!

Hotel staff are friendly, helpful and attentive. The bell boy who helped me with bringing my luggages to the room was very friendly and helpful, spoke good English too. Though not all staff spoke good English, they tried their best to assist me. Their service standard is consistent throughout.
The room and the toilet was spacious and clean.
There were 4 restuarants that I could go to for breakfast. The Garden Lounge which served buffet breakfast has a wide selection of food and drink. Most importantly the food was yummy!
I enjoyed looking at the beautiful garden with waterfall view as I was seated by the window during breakfast.Dari£ 106

We had a fantastic stay at Mitsui Garden Hotel Ginza. The location is perfect—within walking distance of great shopping, restaurants, public transport, the famous Tsukiji Market, and just a stone's throw from the beautiful Hama-rikyu Gardens, which made our stay even more special as it's where we got engaged.
The service was exceptional, with friendly and professional staff who made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room was spotless, modern, surprisingly spacious, and offered a beautiful view of the city.
Breakfast was excellent, with a wonderful selection of fresh Japanese and Western dishes to start each day.
Everything about our stay exceeded our expectations. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Tokyo.

The service at the Imperial Hotel is truly exceptional. From the front desk concierge who escorts guests to their rooms and explains the facilities, the staff are incredibly friendly without being overly formal. It perfectly embodies the hospitality and service standards from Japan's economic boom era.
Honestly, the photos don't do the hotel justice, and the facilities aren't the newest, but once you stay, you'll find it incredibly comfortable. The provided toiletries are also excellent. The toilet area, designed so you can sit and do your makeup, is a really thoughtful touch – the Imperial Hotel in Osaka has the same feature.
It might look unassuming, but it's very thoughtful and provides a comfortable stay.
I found the breakfast buffet to be just okay, not as amazing as some reviews suggest, but it's definitely superior to many hotels in the same price range. Personally, I prefer the Japanese set menu; it truly captures the essence of a Japanese breakfast.Dari£ 143

The room was incredibly spacious, and the elevators were very efficient. There are plenty of dining options nearby, and it's conveniently located close to both JR and subway lines, making transportation a breeze. The staff were very friendly, and the self-service check-in and check-out made everything super convenient. You can store your luggage after checking out, and there's a bus service to Haneda Airport.Dari£ 55

We booked the Tokyo tower side view room. When lying on the bed we are directly facing to the side of the Tokyo tower to enjoy the fantastic tower view.
The room is with good size. There is a ventilation feature on the window bay where you can get some fresh air. The bathtub has the bottom massage function which I quite like it. The TV is a bit old and small though.
The breakfast we chose is on the top floor where you can enjoy the city view around the hotel. Breakfast options are not too many but definitely enough, the taste is quite good I would say.
There are many entertainment options in the hotel, such as public bath and bowling.Dari£ 143

Overall, it's pretty good. The room isn't huge, but there's enough space to open three suitcases comfortably. It's very clean, and they bring fresh pajamas daily. The amenities are comprehensive, including a fridge – though a microwave would have been a nice addition. Both check-in and check-out are semi-self-service, which is very efficient. Thumbs up! The biggest plus is definitely the location; it's super convenient for getting anywhere. It’s only a five to six-minute walk from Ginza Station, and the surrounding shopping area is fantastic for browsing. Plus, there are plenty of convenience stores nearby.Dari£ 59

I arrived at 11 PM for check-in, and the hotel is conveniently located right off Ginza's main street. The front desk staff was efficient, and communication in simple English was no problem. They even provided toiletries. As it's a new hotel, there's no need for power adapters; USB and Type-C ports are directly available. The room is very spacious, and the bathroom has a separate wet and dry area. I could easily open up my 28-inch suitcase. Breakfast was also good, with plenty of choices.Dari£ 88

This was my third stay, and this hotel truly is a hidden gem among all the hotels in Tokyo. Every morning, I'd wake up and walk to the outer market for breakfast. The hotel service is also excellent. Previously, the bathroom in the same room type was different, so I contacted Trip.com. Trip.com then reached out to the hotel, and a dedicated staff member showed us several room types to understand the situation, and then changed us to a satisfactory room. On each floor, room numbers 20-25 are double rooms. Rooms 20 and 25 have bathrooms like the one shown in picture two, while rooms 21-24 have better bathrooms with separate bathtubs and showers. Also, rooms 21-24 have beds that are actually 1.8m, while rooms 20 and 25 have 1.6m beds, even though all are listed as 1.6m – they are actually different! However, room 20 is the furthest from the elevator, so it depends on personal preference. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this price point in Tokyo.Dari£ 97

Had a fantastic stay! The hotel's location is excellent, right next to the Rinkai Line, making it incredibly convenient for getting around, especially to Disney. The room facilities were well-equipped, and the cleanliness was top-notch; there were no unpleasant odors. Breakfast is served on the first floor. We stayed for five nights and went at different times, but on three of those days, we encountered a queue. If you're in a hurry, you might want to factor in some extra time.Dari£ 86

Considering Tokyo's premium on space, the hotel room was surprisingly spacious. We were able to fully open two 30-inch suitcases with no problem. You can even see the Tokyo Tower right from your room – I'd recommend opting for a higher floor for an even more stunning night view. The hotel service was excellent too; check-in was super quick. It's about a six to seven-minute walk to the nearest subway station, which made getting around pretty convenient.Dari£ 96

Room and bed were very comfortable, immaculately clean and modern. 2 mins walk from train station, if you need lift access to train then a 6 mins walk, we had a stroller.
Breakfast was a bit of a zoo, we went during Christmas, very busy! But tables were spacious so even though there were so many people you don’t feel cramped. Good variety of food selection. We had dinner at the Japanese teppanyaki restaurant. Delicious, especially the tuna salad.
I found the lobby staff a little lack of personality, at check in, no mentioning of where breakfast will be, what time check out is. Just checked you in and that’s it, no personal notes in the room. When I expressed I’ve lost my phone at the shop in Tokyo, no sign of empathy (it was a western male staff) no gesture of helpfulness, very cold and robotic. This goes for concierge also, he is an older western gentleman, he needs to use Google translate also which is frustrating cause I could do exactly the same research with Google translate.
Overall, hardware is solid, need to fine tune the staff, sprinkle a little bit of personality in them.Dari£ 218

Getting to the hotel from Shinagawa was super easy, there's a direct bus. Plus, the hotel is really close to the subway station – you can even see the Yurikamome Line platform right from your room. The hotel is at great location (right across the road from the Shinagawa train station) but upon check in. They were so disappointing. First I waited in the self check in for 15 mins but were then told i can’t check in for two rooms there. Then I waited 20 mins in the manual check in queue and then all of the sudden. All receptionists left the reception desk. Waited another 15 mins and 2 complains later. The reception ladies came back out. And then there was the breakfast queues. Every morning we had to wait 20 mins to get into breakfast however this was not their fault, there were so many guests and they did try by opening the second floor and directed people to another location. The breakfast options were increditable. The amenities were great but they were all additional costs. The swimming pool was extra £25 per person to use. And when I looked down from my room. It was empty 😅。 The left luggage queue was also another 30 mins. So in total I wasted a day queueing. But the facilities and location was amazing.Dari£ 58

Lovely hotel with in great location. However, not truly a five star hotel. At best it is a four star in my opinion.
Lack of explanation of their amenities and what needs to be booked on checking in. Eg Concierge not aware that the jazz club needed to be booked in advance. Not his fault really as he has perhaps never been trained On arrival to the club, we were then literally ushered out to our embarrassment as all other sitting guests observed this as there were three members of staff attempting to use body language as they could not communicate in English nor did they wish to use their phone translate app. Very unlike Japanese people’s calm and kind style.
Many areas in cerulean floor requires updating.
On reporting the above, we were told that a QR code should have been provided and they forgot.Dari£ 250

It was 5:30 PM in Otemachi, Tokyo, and a massive halo, like a holy light, enveloped the area, reflecting the silhouette of the world's most beautiful CBD on the glass facade of Otemachi Tower. Perched atop this magnificent skyscraper, Aman Tokyo, which stunned the world a decade ago, remains an unparalleled benchmark for modern city hotels.
|The soaring 30-meter high atrium, crafted with washi lanterns, wood textures, and concrete and rock, creates a 'dry landscape' garden in the urban clouds.
|The view facing the Imperial Palace is arguably Tokyo's most beautiful skyline (it ruthlessly trumps the already impressive view from the neighboring Bulgari).
|While the ambiance at Arva, the Italian restaurant on the other side of the lobby, is superb, the food wasn't to my taste. I'd recommend the Aman Cafe on the first floor, a glasshouse enveloped by the 'Otemachi Forest' oasis instead.Dari£ 1,120

Though small, this hotel has everything you need. Its Ginza location is incredibly convenient, perfect for shopping or quickly getting to Narita Airport via the expressway.
What truly impressed me is how many features are packed into such a compact space. They have a coin-operated laundry and a large public bath. The room, which I'd estimate at about 20 square meters, even managed to fit bunk beds (1.2m/1.5m), making it very family-friendly.
A minor point is that since the hotel is directly above the subway, you occasionally feel vibrations as trains pass. This led to a funny moment when an actual earthquake hit at night, and I initially thought it was just another train going by!Dari£ 51

My overall experience with this stay was quite complex, feeling more like a test of service management capabilities.
On the first day, the room cleaning quality was noticeably below expectations. The wash area, countertop details, and some amenities weren't clean enough, and the bedding wasn't tidied properly. From a housekeeping management perspective, this felt more like a failure in process execution rather than an isolated incident, and it definitely affected my first impression.
However, after I raised the issue, the hotel's recovery actions were prompt. In the following days, the room cleaning was significantly more standardized, with noticeable improvements in detail. This indicates that the hotel is capable of good service, but the initial day's execution standards simply weren't met.
In contrast, Trip.com's service experience during this incident left a deeper impression. The customer service proactively followed up, communicated efficiently, and handled the situation professionally. They were able to push for problem resolution from a customer experience perspective, demonstrating a mature platform service system. This level of after-sales responsiveness is quite high among current online travel platforms.
Overall Rating:
The hotel's hardware and positioning are fine, but there's room for improvement in service consistency, especially regarding the first-day delivery standards of housekeeping management. Trip.com's coordination and service performance in this incident, on the other hand, highlighted the professional value of their platform.Dari£ 554

I’d wanted to stay at this hotel for a long time and loved the idea of a traditional-style hotel right in the heart of Tokyo. The staff were very friendly, and I was happy to get a room on a higher floor as I had requested.
The room itself was very small and felt a bit outdated. For this price range, I expected a little more. However, the window — definitely the highlight of the room — offered an incredible view of the city.

The room was very clean and even had a small sofa. There's a supermarket downstairs, though it closes a bit early. A Lawson convenience store is just a five-minute walk away, and the subway station isn't far either, making it very convenient for getting around. The only downside was that the air conditioner was leaking, right at the end of the building. Since there was a language barrier, I just put a plastic bag under it. Located on the Marunouchi side of Tokyo Station, this hotel, though not large, offers exceptionally warm and attentive service. Every staff member I encountered greeted me proactively. I arrived at 2:15 PM, before check-in time, and stored my luggage. After a quick stroll around the area, I returned to find my bags already neatly placed in my room. When I needed more water, the front desk delivered it to my room in an instant. The room itself was very quiet and well-equipped with all necessary amenities. For such a central location, the value for money is outstanding. The view from the window is excellent; during the day, the train tracks are busy with trains coming and going, while at night, the city lights are spectacular. The soundproofing is terrible; I barely slept because it was so noisy. You can hear every step from upstairs, and I didn't get a good night's sleep for three days. The hotel is quite old. Coming directly from Tokyo Station, you can access the hotel's exclusive elevator via the Marunouchi underground passage, which saves you the hassle of crossing streets above ground. Being on a high floor, the view of Tokyo Station with its busy trains passing by is quite spectacular. The room is small but exquisite, typical of Tokyo style. This was my second stay here, primarily because of its excellent location. It's a convenient 5-minute walk from the JR station and about 20 minutes to Isetan, making it easy to get anywhere. Plus, there's a direct shuttle bus to the airport that gets you there in just 1.5 hours. I stayed in the South Wing, and the room was a bit dated, but everything else was fine. There's a Komeda right outside, which is great for a high-value breakfast. On the second floor, there's a Family Mart, so it's super convenient for grabbing anything you need. The service is also very good; they provide complimentary water and buckwheat pillows. I highly recommend this as the top choice for Shinjuku, especially for its unbeatable value for money. Staying at this luxury hotel, nestled within a historic building at Tokyo Station, was an absolute delight. Both the facilities and services were outstanding. The shower and faucet in the room felt incredibly luxurious – a truly 'premium' experience. The hotel's long guest room corridors, with their wall sconces, created a wonderfully warm and inviting sense of depth. A major highlight was the hotel's breakfast and its setting. Served on the 4th floor, the breakfast offered a rich and diverse selection. This was my first time staying at The Peninsula Tokyo, and the experience was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we began corresponding with the hotel before arrival, the team made it clear that this was going to be a special stay.
I had reached out in advance as this was an important trip for our family, and the team – especially Ms. Kim – went above and beyond to help organise everything smoothly. Every detail was handled with care, and it really set the tone for our visit.
Throughout our stay, every interaction made us feel genuinely welcome. The lobby team, the staff at Peter, and housekeeping were all consistently warm, professional, and attentive. Small gestures, friendly smiles, and a real willingness to help turned a simple hotel stay into a collection of memories we will cherish for a long time.
This trip has made The Peninsula Tokyo our new fav stay in the city. There is a wonderful sense of warmth and hospitality here, and you feel that everyone is truly invested in making your stay as special as possible. We are already looking forward to returning on our next visit to Tokyo.Dari£ 560

The hotel's location is great, quite close to the subway station, and it's convenient to walk to Ginza. In my opinion, the one major drawback is that the staff's English proficiency is absolutely terrible! On both occasions I've stayed here, the front desk staff could barely speak English during check-in, requiring a translation device, which wasted a lot of time and effort. Even more ridiculous, when I called from my room to request an extra pillow, the staff member who answered couldn't understand English. We repeated the English word for ”pillow” at least ten times, and even spelled out the letters one by one, but it was still useless – we simply couldn't communicate. Overall, the hotel has a good location and the rooms are generally decent, but the English level of the staff is genuinely the worst I've encountered in any Japanese hotel.Dari£ 114

The hotel room was very clean and a decent size. The windows were amazing – even though there was an elevated highway outside, I couldn't hear any traffic noise, it was really quiet. The hotel is conveniently located right next to the shuttle bus stop for both Haneda and Narita airports. If you head left out of the hotel, there's a great spot on a bridge to photograph the Tokyo Skytree, and to the right, you'll find the famous Ningyo-yaki shop and lots of delicious restaurants. The Suitengu-mae subway station is directly accessible from the hotel's basement (B1), which is incredibly convenient.Dari£ 109

Pros:
the duty manager Mai who is fluent in English and demonstrated outstanding attentiveness and a genuine dedication to hospitality. She took the time to truly understand my specific needs and thoughtfully arranged the perfect room for me.
To be quite honest, this level of personalized care and attention to detail is something rarely encountered in the hospitality industry nowadays. I was both deeply impressed and delightfully surprised by this experience.
Cons:
regarding the housekeeping service during my stay, While I appreciate that the bedsheets were changed diligently, the overall cleanliness and attention to detail have been highly disappointing.
Instead of clearing the room, the housekeeper consistently left trash behind after cleaning. Day1 The housekeeper actually stuffed a piece of paper waste into the room card slot. Day 2 The trash remained unclean.
Day 3 The housekeeper even left their own dirty cleaning towel right next to the bathroom sink. (see the picture)
As a guest, I expected a high standard of hygiene and professionalism, but these incidents have made my stay quite uncomfortable.Dari£ 71

The room was clean and tidy, and the front desk service was very attentive, providing me with lots of guidance on transportation – really commendable! I stayed at this hotel two years ago and just spent another three nights here. The breakfast has definitely improved; I ate there on my check-out day because of the heavy rain, and it was quite good, definitely worth the price. Ironically, the trendy, long-queued bakery near the hotel that everyone raves about was actually quite mediocre.Dari£ 56

This hotel boasts an excellent location, just a few minutes' walk to major department stores and subway stations. Downstairs, you'll find convenience stores and pharmacies. The rooms are clean and dry, with a separated wet and dry bathroom area, and excellent soundproofing. The staff are gentle and attentive. It's the top choice for shopping and dining, and incredibly convenient for getting around. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Tokyo.
**Concise Version (approx. 70 words):**
The hotel is situated in the heart of Ginza, offering convenient access to transport, luxury brand stores, and restaurants right outside. Rooms are clean and well-equipped, with soft and comfortable bedding, and the front desk service is patient. The only minor drawback is the slightly small room size, making large luggage placement a bit cramped. Overall, the value for money is decent, making it suitable for short shopping and sightseeing stays.Dari£ 106
