What exactly is the Tokyo Game Show?

Since its debut in 1996, the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) has grown into a massive annual celebration of gaming, hosted at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba—just a short trip from the heart of Tokyo. Standing tall alongside Europe’s Gamescom, it’s a premier destination for global gaming showcases and a vibrant hub for industry connection.
While Western events often center on PC and console blockbusters, TGS offers a unique deep dive into Japanese RPGs (JRPGs), anime-inspired titles, mobile gaming, and cutting-edge virtual reality. It’s also legendary for its massive indie developer showcase and its vibrant, dedicated cosplay community.
How to Experience TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026: Your Guide to Tickets 🎫

Heads up! You'll need to book your tickets online ahead of time, as there won't be any available for purchase at the gates on the day of the event.
To guarantee your spot, make sure to snag your tickets on Trip.com for each specific day you're planning to visit.
- Mark your calendars! Tickets go on sale July 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM (UTC+8).
- How to Book: Snag your daily passes directly on the Trip.com TGS Booking Page.
Weekend tickets for the general public tend to disappear in a flash, so I’d definitely suggest setting a calendar alert for when they go on sale!
TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026: Dates, Times, and Where to Go
The 2026 edition of the show kicks off on Thursday, September 17, and runs through Monday, September 21, 2026. It’s a great time to visit, especially since September 21 is a public holiday in Japan—giving general attendees an extra day to soak up all the excitement on the show floor!
- Venue: Makuhari Messe (Halls 1–11, International Conference Hall, and TKP Tokyo Bay Makuhari Hall).

Which Games and Exhibitors Are Confirmed for TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026?

TGS 2026 Lineup (AIGC image; please note that some exhibitors and games may not be available)
The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) has officially confirmed that 759 exhibitors will be joining the excitement at TGS 2026, featuring a fantastic mix of 484 domestic Japanese companies and 275 international organizations.
While publishers usually announce their specific playable demo titles closer to the event, the official exhibitor lineup is already packed with major industry giants:
- Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation): Making a grand return to the main exhibition floor with an impressive setup to spotlight their latest hardware and highly anticipated upcoming titles.
- Capcom: Famous for showcasing highly anticipated playable demos for blockbuster franchises like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.
- Sega / Atlus: Get ready for some incredible JRPGs and action-packed titles that are sure to steal the show!
- Square Enix: Get a sneak peek at upcoming projects, the latest updates, and must-have merchandise.
- Bandai Namco, Koei Tecmo, and Konami are all set to make a splash, bringing us major anime adaptations, high-stakes competitive titles, and massive, must-see interactive booths.
- Game Freak: The legendary developer behind the mainline Pokémon series is officially confirmed as a general exhibitor!
- Selected Indie 80: Supported by industry sponsors, this dedicated section gives 80 selected independent global developers free booth space to showcase their most creative, boundary-pushing indie titles.
Heads up: As usual, Nintendo won't have a public booth on the floor, though they’ll still be busy behind the scenes with business meetings and supporting select indie projects.
Must-Do Experiences at Tokyo Game Show 2026
With so many massive exhibition halls to explore, making the most of your time is essential. Here are the must-see experiences you won't want to miss:
- Play Unreleased Demos: Get a sneak peek at highly anticipated games months before they hit the shelves! If you’ve got your heart set on a major title, make a beeline for that publisher's booth first thing in the morning to snag a seiriken (a numbered priority ticket).
- Explore the Indie Area: The "Selected Indie 80" pavilion showcases some of the most unique gameplay concepts around and gives you the perfect chance to chat directly with the developers.
- Capture the Cosplay: On public days, you'll find dedicated outdoor spaces buzzing with cosplayers in stunningly detailed costumes, bringing your favorite game and anime characters to life. Just remember to always ask politely before snapping a photo!
- Shop Exclusive Merchandise: Many publishers bring limited-edition figures, apparel, and soundtracks that you can only snag at the venue. These treasures often sell out by Sunday night, so make sure to shop early if you've got your heart set on some unique gear!
Level Up Your Tokyo Game Show 2026 Visit with These Pro-Tips
- Choose Your Footwear Wisely: You'll likely be clocking over 15,000 steps a day on unforgiving concrete, so make sure to pack your most supportive athletic shoes!
- Pack a Reliable Power Bank: Between heavy phone usage and crowded networks draining your battery, a high-capacity portable charger is an absolute travel essential.
- Get Ready for the Wait: Demos for the hottest games often have lines stretching from 1 to 3 hours. Pro tip: pack a portable console or a good book to make the time fly by!
- Screenshot Your Tickets and Maps: Mobile data signals inside Makuhari Messe can get super congested, making it tough to load anything on the fly. Do yourself a favor and download your entry QR codes and hall maps to your phone before you even reach the station!
- Skip the Nishi-Funabashi Shuffle: During the morning and evening rush, transferring at Nishi-Funabashi Station can get seriously packed. For a much smoother ride, I always recommend hopping on the direct Keiyo Line from Tokyo Station straight to Kaihin-Makuhari—it’s a total game-changer!

Beyond being a bit of a walk from the subway, everything else was impeccable. The room was spacious, and the corner glass windows offered great views. The tower building was affordable, unlike the main building which was out of my price range. The garden was expansive, though the cherry blossoms weren't in full bloom yet, so there weren't many flowers. The lower floors are all shopping malls; you can spend a lot of time just wandering around the hotel, from the tower to the main building. It's a great way to pass the time.DariRM593

Location of the hotel is excellent and is within close proximity to major establishments/shopping areas in the Ginza area. There is a convenient store (”Natural Lawson”) on the ground floor of the building.
I booked the Standard Room with Queen Bed as I was worried that the Standard Room with Single Bed would be too cramped. I'm glad I made that decision. At about 20sq.m., the room is spacious and comfortable enough for one person but may be slightly cramped for a couple. Then again, hotel rooms in Japan tend to be small in general. Everything was clean and well maintained, and the amenities were sufficient. The lobby of the hotel is located on the 16/F of the building, and the guestrooms are located from 17/F up, so you get a very nice view of the Ginza area.
I didn't try the breakfast on this trip, but I've heard nice things about that. Will definitely try that next time.

We enjoy staying in the Imperial Hotel for number of reasons. Convenient location in Ginza, easy to get taxi from the hotel. The hotel staffs are helpful and efficient. The check-in process is smooth and the luggages delivered to our room very quickly. The room is spacious as we are staying in Junior Suite. I love their shower with strong water pressure. Regarding buffet breakfast, they have a great choice of food. Two of the mornings we need to queue to get table for buffet breakfast, but the 3rd morning there was no waiting at all, so it depends which days you visit Japan to avoid the crowd. Overall, I will stay in Imperial again.DariRM830

Suidobashi/Tokyo Dome Tokyo|3.75km dari pusat bandar
When I booked online for the room, I stated very clearly no corner room, but when I discovered my room is nearly at the end, was a bit not happy. The location is 7 mins walk to suidoboshi station. But it's not very near to places like shibuya or Tokyo, a bit disappointed the single room is a bit small, but the milk lotion, liquid cleanser, face wash packet they provided is gd. A bit surprised they don't provide spoon but stirrer. The room is clean, and there is lawson at 2nd floor and laundry service at 7th level. I have taken video of the room but can't attach here, wasted. Near the suidoboshi station are some eateries. They provide one water bottle daily and clean the room daily which is good. If you preferred a clean room, this hotel is apt for u. The hotel provided airport limousine bus to airport but not vice versaDariRM309

Our family trip to Tokyo was made much easier by this hotel—it was an excellent choice for us. They offer adjoining rooms and sofa beds, which gave us plenty of space and flexibility. The location is another big plus: set within a family-friendly park, it’s just a short walk to Tokyo Tower, great restaurants, and nearby subway stations.
One thing to keep in mind: the elevators are split—floors 1–18 and 19–32 are served separately, and access to floors 18–32 requires a key card. So if you’re booking multiple room types, just double-check which floors they’re on to avoid any confusion.DariRM769

Fantastic location, right in front of Ginza 6 mall, with all the shopping, eateries and Lawson nearby. A very busy hotel with continuous flow of guest. Service was efficient. I arrived at 11 PM for check-in, and the hotel is conveniently located right off Ginza's main street. The front desk staff was efficient, and communication in simple English was no problem. They even provided toiletries. As it's a new hotel, there's no need for power adapters; USB and Type-C ports are directly available. The room is very spacious, and the bathroom has a separate wet and dry area. I could easily open up my 28-inch suitcase. Breakfast was also good, with plenty of choices.DariRM485

This was our second stay here, and it's super close to Tsukiji subway station – just turn the corner after exiting via 3a. Getting around is really convenient. The room was clean and tidy, and downstairs they provide daily cleaning supplies, including makeup remover, which was a thoughtful touch! There’s a small supermarket right near the hotel, making it easy to pick up daily essentials. It's only a 15-minute walk straight to Ginza. For Akihabara, it's just 5 stops directly on the Hibiya Line. Perfect for us anime fans!DariRM481

Had a fantastic stay! The hotel's location is excellent, right next to the Rinkai Line, making it incredibly convenient for getting around, especially to Disney. The room facilities were well-equipped, and the cleanliness was top-notch; there were no unpleasant odors. Breakfast is served on the first floor. We stayed for five nights and went at different times, but on three of those days, we encountered a queue. If you're in a hurry, you might want to factor in some extra time.DariRM423

I was very satisfied with this room type, as it offered a great view of Tokyo Tower. The hotel lobby is beautiful. While the room furnishings are a bit dated, it was still quite comfortable for my eight-day stay, offering excellent value for money. It seemed like most guests staying at this hotel were Japanese business travelers or older individuals, with fewer tourists.DariRM461

Akasaka Tokyo|2.21km dari pusat bandar
Room and bed were very comfortable, immaculately clean and modern. 2 mins walk from train station, if you need lift access to train then a 6 mins walk, we had a stroller.
Breakfast was a bit of a zoo, we went during Christmas, very busy! But tables were spacious so even though there were so many people you don’t feel cramped. Good variety of food selection. We had dinner at the Japanese teppanyaki restaurant. Delicious, especially the tuna salad.
I found the lobby staff a little lack of personality, at check in, no mentioning of where breakfast will be, what time check out is. Just checked you in and that’s it, no personal notes in the room. When I expressed I’ve lost my phone at the shop in Tokyo, no sign of empathy (it was a western male staff) no gesture of helpfulness, very cold and robotic. This goes for concierge also, he is an older western gentleman, he needs to use Google translate also which is frustrating cause I could do exactly the same research with Google translate.
Overall, hardware is solid, need to fine tune the staff, sprinkle a little bit of personality in them.DariRM978

Odaiba Tokyo|5.01km dari pusat bandar
Overall, I'd give it 4 stars, mainly for the location and the night view, though the hotel's facilities are a bit dated.
🚃 Transportation (very convenient)
Take the Yurikamome Line to Daiba Station, and it's a 3-5 minute walk to the hotel. You even get sea views along the way. Downstairs, there's an Airport Limousine bus that goes directly to Haneda and Narita airports, which is super convenient when you're traveling with luggage.
📍 Location & Surroundings
This deserves high praise – it's right in the heart of Odaiba. You can walk to Fuji TV, Joypolis (Sega Amusements), and the Gundam statue at DiverCity. Aqua City is right downstairs, so dining and shopping are a breeze. It’s perfect for families with kids or young travelers.
🌉 Night View (highly recommended)
I booked a room on the Rainbow Bridge side, and the night view of Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Bay was truly amazing. Just sitting by the window and zoning out made it worth every penny.
🍳 Breakfast (average)
The buffet offers a mix of Japanese and Western options, but nothing particularly memorable. The taste was just okay, and I felt it wasn't great value for money.
🏨 Facilities & Room (gripes)
The decor is a bit old-fashioned. My biggest complaint is the hairdryer in the room – it's so old and weak; drying long hair was a real struggle. I hope the hotel replaces it soon. Other facilities were acceptable.DariRM669

The hotel is very big with the Main, East, North and Annex Towers. I booked a 3-night in July 26 in Annex Towers. The room is clean and very quiet and the aircon is also very quiet. This gave me a very good rest during my short stay. The staff are generally friendly. The train station is just across the hotel. This made travelling very convenient. There are several shops and restaurants in the hotel and prices are affordable. There is also a 7-Eleven on the second floor.DariRM259

Wonderful hotel that goes above and beyond for families traveling with children. From the child amenity kits and pajamas for our toddler to the crib and diaper pail for our infant we felt that every need was met which made for a really comfortable trip. The 7eleven in the hotel was the icing on the cake! We also were able to utilize the Poppins onsite daycare although this is run independently and you should book well in advance of your trip as only 1 day that we requested was available for booking. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.DariRM1,157

This hotel is in central Tokyo and it's really huge, bugger than The Okura. But the location isn't good for tourists. The nearest subway stations to go anywhere are a 12min walk away and the nearest konbini is also a 7min walk.
The hotel itself has many restaurants and has a nice garden.
The room I chose was spacious but the TV is facing the side of the bed rather than the front so watching TV wasn't convenient.
Service was good. When I checked in the staff brought all my bags to my room with me and asked me if I needed anything. They also have turn down service in the evenings. Provided numerous towels.DariRM617

Though small, this hotel has everything you need. Its Ginza location is incredibly convenient, perfect for shopping or quickly getting to Narita Airport via the expressway.
What truly impressed me is how many features are packed into such a compact space. They have a coin-operated laundry and a large public bath. The room, which I'd estimate at about 20 square meters, even managed to fit bunk beds (1.2m/1.5m), making it very family-friendly.
A minor point is that since the hotel is directly above the subway, you occasionally feel vibrations as trains pass. This led to a funny moment when an actual earthquake hit at night, and I initially thought it was just another train going by!DariRM226

My overall experience with this stay was quite complex, feeling more like a test of service management capabilities.
On the first day, the room cleaning quality was noticeably below expectations. The wash area, countertop details, and some amenities weren't clean enough, and the bedding wasn't tidied properly. From a housekeeping management perspective, this felt more like a failure in process execution rather than an isolated incident, and it definitely affected my first impression.
However, after I raised the issue, the hotel's recovery actions were prompt. In the following days, the room cleaning was significantly more standardized, with noticeable improvements in detail. This indicates that the hotel is capable of good service, but the initial day's execution standards simply weren't met.
In contrast, Trip.com's service experience during this incident left a deeper impression. The customer service proactively followed up, communicated efficiently, and handled the situation professionally. They were able to push for problem resolution from a customer experience perspective, demonstrating a mature platform service system. This level of after-sales responsiveness is quite high among current online travel platforms.
Overall Rating:
The hotel's hardware and positioning are fine, but there's room for improvement in service consistency, especially regarding the first-day delivery standards of housekeeping management. Trip.com's coordination and service performance in this incident, on the other hand, highlighted the professional value of their platform.DariRM2,897

I’d wanted to stay at this hotel for a long time and loved the idea of a traditional-style hotel right in the heart of Tokyo. The staff were very friendly, and I was happy to get a room on a higher floor as I had requested.
The room itself was very small and felt a bit outdated. For this price range, I expected a little more. However, the window — definitely the highlight of the room — offered an incredible view of the city.

We traveled to Nagano Prefecture for 2 days from Tokyo and returned to stay at the Conrad again. This time, we switched to a bay view suite. The room was still spacious, and having two bathrooms was very convenient. The view remained impeccable, and the housekeeping staff did a thorough and clean job. We needed packing tape, and they delivered two large rolls, which was a very thoughtful touch ❤️. The documents we needed printed were also handled very well. We have a small suggestion: could the bathtub be replaced with a deeper model? The current one is too shallow, and taller people can't fully enjoy it.DariRM1,218

Located on the Marunouchi side of Tokyo Station, this hotel, though not large, offers exceptionally warm and attentive service. Every staff member I encountered greeted me proactively. I arrived at 2:15 PM, before check-in time, and stored my luggage. After a quick stroll around the area, I returned to find my bags already neatly placed in my room. When I needed more water, the front desk delivered it to my room in an instant. The room itself was very quiet and well-equipped with all necessary amenities. For such a central location, the value for money is outstanding. The hotel isn't right next to a subway station, but the shuttle bus service is super convenient, running every 15 minutes to and from Meguro Station. It pretty much covers all your transportation needs. It wasn't until after we checked out that we realized they'd upgraded our room type! It was definitely bigger, and we could easily spread out three 28-inch suitcases, which was really handy. The only downside was that the facilities felt a bit old. I visited Tokyo with my 88-year-old father. The hotel’s location is arguably the absolute best, making it incredibly convenient to visit Tokyo’s major attractions. The hotel facilities were also highly satisfying. First and foremost, the amenities in the guest room were excellent, and the thoughtful accessibility considerations for the elderly or infirm gave us great peace of mind. For instance, the provision of a bath chair with a backrest was very impressive. The hygiene and meticulous housekeeping were of the highest standard. Furthermore, the non-slip mat provided in the bathroom clearly reflected a deep consideration for the guests' specific needs. All of this, of course, is a testament to the staff’s proactive service and attentive care.
If there was one minor disappointment, I wish a wider variety of pillows had been available in the room. In this regard, I felt it fell slightly short of meeting guests' diverse preferences. Additionally, as a helpful suggestion for safety, designing bathroom doors to open outward to facilitate emergency access in case of an accident inside is a fundamental design principle for luxury hotels. While preventing accidents altogether is ideal, being fully prepared for emergencies is what sets the highest standard of excellence.
On another note, despite the hotel being located within a major railway station, there was absolutely no noise. The soundproofing was truly remarkable. The breakfast offered a rich and diverse selection, beautifully balancing traditional Japanese cuisine with Western options. While ordering a more unique or specialized beverage took a bit of time, the quality and taste were highly satisfying. The other facilities, particularly the restaurants and cafes, were exceptionally calm, elegant, and quiet, providing a very pleasant experience. The food, of course, tasted excellent. However, you must ensure you have ample time to enjoy it; it can require a significant amount of time and patience before the food is served in front of you.
Overall, our experience was exceptionally satisfying and wonderful. With its rich historical background and narrative, the hotel offered a deeply engaging and far from boring stay.DariRM1,555

Stayed for four nights and was very satisfied. The front desk staff spoke good English and were friendly. The room wasn't small for Tokyo, and the booth seating was very convenient. They provided various skincare products and mineral water, which were replenished daily. On the 14th floor, there's a tea break area with free cookies and drinks, and also a spa, though the prices are quite expensive compared to back home. The room had a fridge, safe, and iron, and the view was excellent. I heard some rooms even have a view of Tokyo Tower. The breakfast had a wide variety. The only thing I didn't like was having to shower in the bathtub.DariRM446

This was my first time staying at The Peninsula Tokyo, and the experience was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we began corresponding with the hotel before arrival, the team made it clear that this was going to be a special stay.
I had reached out in advance as this was an important trip for our family, and the team – especially Ms. Kim – went above and beyond to help organise everything smoothly. Every detail was handled with care, and it really set the tone for our visit.
Throughout our stay, every interaction made us feel genuinely welcome. The lobby team, the staff at Peter, and housekeeping were all consistently warm, professional, and attentive. Small gestures, friendly smiles, and a real willingness to help turned a simple hotel stay into a collection of memories we will cherish for a long time.
This trip has made The Peninsula Tokyo our new fav stay in the city. There is a wonderful sense of warmth and hospitality here, and you feel that everyone is truly invested in making your stay as special as possible. We are already looking forward to returning on our next visit to Tokyo.DariRM2,440

If 100 is a perfect score, this hotel has its pros and cons. The convenient location and room size both deserve a 90. The shower water pressure and the service from most of the staff are at least an 80. However, you can clearly hear the subway from the room, and even with the small window handle adjusted up or down, the noise persists. During my two-night stay, one night I couldn't fall asleep until the subway stopped running in the middle of the night. The next morning, I was woken up by the noise around 7 AM. I groggily recorded a video, but my phone's microphone near the bed didn't capture it well. The actual sound is about one to two times louder than what's in the video. The room also didn't provide earplugs, which is quite unbearable – I'm deducting 70 points for this. There were noticeable marks on the room walls and the bathroom floor, so I'm taking off another 50 points. The carpet is old and somewhat damaged, and the room looks dingy. For a room that costs over 1500 per night, this warrants another 60-point deduction. So, this is a hotel with overly distinct pros and cons.DariRM565

Just finished reviewing my June booking, and now I'm here to write about July's. I've been coming to Tokyo almost every month recently, and I always choose this hotel.
I've probably been staying here longer than some of the staff have been working here, haha! 😂
The subway access is excellent and very close, so you don't have to walk far at all. The hygiene is great, and it's been well-maintained; I haven't noticed any significant changes over the years. The shower stall is also very convenient, no need to step into a bathtub. If nothing changes, I'll definitely keep coming back. I feel like it's been open for at least ten years now.DariRM303

This hotel boasts an excellent location, just a few minutes' walk to major department stores and subway stations. Downstairs, you'll find convenience stores and pharmacies. The rooms are clean and dry, with a separated wet and dry bathroom area, and excellent soundproofing. The staff are gentle and attentive. It's the top choice for shopping and dining, and incredibly convenient for getting around. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Tokyo.
**Concise Version (approx. 70 words):**
The hotel is situated in the heart of Ginza, offering convenient access to transport, luxury brand stores, and restaurants right outside. Rooms are clean and well-equipped, with soft and comfortable bedding, and the front desk service is patient. The only minor drawback is the slightly small room size, making large luggage placement a bit cramped. Overall, the value for money is decent, making it suitable for short shopping and sightseeing stays.DariRM588

Excellent location and perfect sleep quality!
After exiting Yaesu Underground Shopping Mall Exit 22, take the first alley, and you'll spot the hotel. The ground floor is where you catch the elevator, and the reception desk for check-in is on the second floor. The second floor also features a public area with complimentary tea and coffee. It's worth noting that both the front desk staff and housekeepers I encountered this time could communicate in Chinese, making their service incredibly friendly and reassuring!
Room comfort completely exceeded my expectations! The soundproofing is excellent; I wasn't disturbed by any noise these past few days. The pillow was very supportive and comfortable, and the air conditioning didn't blow directly onto the bed, so I slept wonderfully every night. There are charging ports by the bed, and you can even set your own wake-up call from the phone, which is very convenient.
Two bottles of water are replenished daily in the room. The bathroom has excellent water pressure, making showers very pleasant, and the shampoo and shower gel provided by the hotel are also quite good. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with my stay and would definitely want to visit again!DariRM327

The hotel is quite close to the subway station. I booked this hotel because they offered a free airport shuttle, which was perfect since my flight was arriving late at night. However, my flight was delayed until the early hours of the morning, so I ended up missing the shuttle anyway. The room was good. The breakfast selection wasn't huge, but it tasted delicious.DariRM311
