There are many cafes and unique shops nearby, though the prices are on the higher side.

8. Shop at Nanjing East Road Pedestrian Street. This is known as a shopping paradise. Walking down Nanjing Road, I really get that feeling of the city lights just coming on. There’s so much delicious food and fun to be had, I feel like my wallet might go bankrupt!🤣

  • At the end of the show, the audience is invited on stage to dance, making it a super fun and immersive experience!!!

You can also try bike-sharing, which is affordable and convenient, allowing you to pick up and drop off bikes as you go.

Best Time to Visit Shanghai – Based on Experience, Weather & Cost

If you're planning a trip to Shanghai, the best times to visit in terms of weather, crowd levels, and cost-effectiveness are:

1️⃣ Mid-to-late March to April (excluding the Qingming Festival holiday)
2️⃣ May, after the Labor Day holiday
3️⃣ Mid-to-late October to November, after the National Day holiday
4️⃣ September, after the summer break when students return to school

Why These Periods?

  • Comfortable weather – Not too hot or too cold, making it pleasant for outdoor activities.
  • Fewer crowds – You won’t have to deal with overwhelming tourist crowds, making sightseeing more enjoyable.
  • Better experience – You’ll have more flexibility to visit attractions without long wait times.
  • Lower costs – Accommodation and transportation prices are more reasonable compared to peak holiday seasons.

Of course, Shanghai is a great destination year-round, as it has a mild climate without extreme cold or heat. Even during peak seasons, as long as you enjoy the trip and find value in the experience, your journey will be meaningful and fulfilling! 🚀✨

Shanghai Travel Tips You Should Know!

What should I pay attention to when traveling to Shanghai for the first time?

The Bund lights up at 7 PM and turns off at 11 PM. If you're short on time, a cruise is a great option.

Stay near Nanjing Road – It's food heaven, and it's super convenient to reach all major attractions.

Avoid taking taxis in Shanghai – Traffic jams and parking are a hassle. The metro is fast, affordable, and covers almost all tourist spots.

Hongqiao Airport is closer to downtown, while Pudong Airport is closer to Disneyland. For high-speed trains, choose Shanghai Railway Station or Hongqiao Railway Station.

Jing’an Temple lights up only on Fridays, Saturdays, and national holidays, starting at 6 PM (but in hot weather, it might light up at 7 PM instead).

Visit Wukang Mansion in the morning for fewer crowds. Afterward, explore Tian’ai Road, Huaihai Middle Road, and Yuyuan Road for a relaxing walk.

For Disneyland, check for "Early Bird" tickets at least 10 days in advance. If you're staying overnight, Xujiahui is a great option—Metro Line 11 takes you directly to the park!

I especially want to commend the quality of the hotel's front desk staff. Ms. Starry Cui was exceptional, confirming guests' needs even before booking. The check-in process was seamless, and the room was prepared exactly as requested. During our stay, she also proactively checked in to ask for feedback, and she handled our check-out arrangements meticulously. This hotel is our go-to whenever we visit Nanjing Road. It's grand, with traditional Western decor, and everyone from the doorman to the cleaning staff is incredibly polite and courteous, making our stay very comfortable. It truly embodies my ideal 'Shanghai-style' hotel.

This is my second time staying here. The hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful. They try their best to accommodate us in all aspects. I bought a pair of shoes that would be delivered to the hotel on the next day, I informed the concierge and they thoroughly went through details of the expected parcel to prevent errors and miscommunication with the delivery. The next day when my parcel arrived, the concierge called and make sure the parcel delivering was the correct one for me. As for the house keeping, they noticed that we drank all 4 bottles of complimentary water everyday and from our 3rd day of staying onward they gave us 6 bottles without our request. Not to mention that I accidentally spilled milk over my bed in the rush, I informed the front desk before we headed out and they enthusiastically told me not to worry they would send the house keeper to change my bed sheet right away. In the morning of our last day, Oliver from the front desk called to confirm our check out and informed that hotel’s check out time was twelve noon. They also asked how many luggage we had and what time would we want the concierge to come collect them which I told them to come up around 11am, and at 11am sharp they rang on my door. Oliver from the front desk came along with the concierge, accompanied us down and helped us through the check out process and luggage deposit. Around 1:30 pm when we came back from lunch, our luggage was ready for us to pick up and headed out to the airport.

It was an excellent stay here! We reached early in morning after a red eye flight and hotel allowed us to check-in! Very grateful for this as it’s really nice to have our room ready way earlier than official check-in timing. Check-in process was a breeze. Room was very clean with all required amenities available - bottled water, hair dryer, bath robe, bedroom slippers, toiletries, coffee with kettle etc. I made a few local phone calls due to my deliveries via *******, and the hotel also kindly waived the fees for me as it was less than RMB1. It’s really kind of the front desk staff Grace and I truly appreciate such kind gestures. Love that the hotel can deliver my food deliveries up to the room using robot, so convenient! There’s always attentive staff available in the lobby to help out with my requests, super good! Hotel is in a very convenient location with the Nanjing East rd shopping street very nearby, and there’s also malls just door. There is McDonald’s , starbucks, convenience store etc just next to the hotel too. Overall was a great stay and will definitely stay again when I visit Shanghai next time!

This veteran five-star hotel in Shanghai still offers excellent service, maintaining its five-star standard from concierge to the executive lounge. The room size is indeed a bit smaller compared to newly opened luxury hotels, and the ceiling height is also quite low. The stains in the toilet's side seams, which weren't cleaned properly, definitely need attention. It's also a bit disappointing that the mini-bar in the executive floor rooms doesn't offer a complimentary round. As a descendant of the Garden Hotel's original staff, I sincerely hope the hotel can maintain its former foreign brand image and service quality. I look forward to the renovated veteran hotel better meeting the needs of current guests and forever upholding Shanghai's high-end hotel image.

Train Station Area Shanghai|2.4km dari pusat bandar
Near to railway station. Major plus for our group. Train access was one of a key plus point too. Took cab however to most places we had a kid. Took a train to Jing An (3r per adult) and from Airport (7r per adult). Pretty convenient and affordable though didi wasn’t expensive. Food is meh at breakfast and Executive Lounge - pretty repetitive with a few changes here and there. International but of course still more Chinese food. Chinese food is too oily and heavy flavoured for our taste but that could be subjective. Front desk was decent. One of the concierge guys was pretty helpful. Hotel is modern, clean, beautiful hardware though. Breakfast is for two per room but could be added at 100r a day before or 130r on the day itself. Additional person for executives lounge access could be waived for a review though we didn’t utilize that. We had the executive suite room with large access. Huge room we are pretty satisfied. Our room looks out to the railway station which was wgreat for us as we were heading to Suzhou after Shanghai 30 mins HSR away. Walk is 5 mins away. The bathroom siding door couldn’t be locked as that was faulty. Dyson hairdryer. Huge bath space. Offered to convert sofa bed to bed without charge for that first so that was great. Not many big issues, I think we could stay again dude. Of course Shanghai has many great options as well, except for the food - wouldn’t order breakfast or get lounge access - would rather head out to eat. They provided cute, toddler bathrobe, toothbrush and guest room slippers - which made my kid happy. I would also suggest to add much needed potty related accessories including a step up stool. All good otherwise, will recommend. Room pictures look as as what is on Trip, so sorry no pictures taken.

The location is fantastic, close to Zhang Yuan and the new Louie ship, also the largest Starbucks. You can find both luxury shopping and dining options nearby. The hotel is situated at the back, providing a quieter atmosphere, which I prefer. However, if you stay on a higher floor, the network connection may not be very stable. If you're not particular about having a view, this is the best location to choose.

Who knew?! Choosing the right hotel in Shanghai made my trip even more memorable than the attractions themselves! I stayed at The Blossom House Yu Garden for 2 nights, and from the moment I stepped in until I left, the surprises just kept coming~ ✅As soon as I arrived, a staff member proactively helped with my luggage, and I was greeted with smiles every time I entered or exited. They even discreetly upgraded my room during check-in – my goodwill towards them was instantly maximized! The room was incredibly comfortable, spacious, bright, and full of thoughtful design – a bronze-yellow petal-shaped door, a budding flower elevator door, and even large floral decorations in the room. It felt like living in a flowing floral feast. Fresh fruit was provided daily for both nights of my stay, and the hot water for showers at night was super abundant. Coming back after a long day, it was incredibly therapeutic. 🍃Breakfast was a delightful blend of Chinese and Western cuisine! Freshly cooked scallion oil noodles with braised toppings, authentic Shanghai soup dumplings, and plenty of Western salads, desserts, and coffee. Sitting in the restaurant, I could even gaze at the Bund's 'Three Sisters' (Shanghai Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, Jin Mao Tower) plus the Oriental Pearl TV Tower from afar. Eating while enjoying the view was just too pleasant. 🪭The most amazing part was the evening! The hotel offered travel photography and intangible cultural heritage handicrafts. I chose the Yu Garden night tour, and the staff patiently explained the humanities and history along the way, which was far more interesting than just wandering around by myself~ The location is superb, too. The Bund, Yu Garden, and Chenghuang Temple are all within walking distance, so there's no need to rush when exploring, eating, and taking photos! 🎉There are many more details worth mentioning〰️ for example, the bathroom cups were clean and sparkling, the in-room fruit was fresh and juicy, and the mini-bar drinks were complimentary.

Highly recommended. Mr. Li provided outstanding service throughout my stay. He helped me with multiple things, including changing rooms and finding items I needed. My Chinese isn’t very good, but he always listened carefully and communicated in a way I could understand. What impressed me most was that he assisted me right away even at midnight when I needed to change rooms. He genuinely gives his best to every guest. The hotel does have a few minor downsides and some facilities were a bit broken, and it’s slightly far from the subway but the excellent service made my stay truly memorable.

Great location, very close to the Bund. However, during breakfast, they started clearing everything away right at 10 AM, which felt a bit rushed. The hotel parking lot is huge with spacious spots, which is quite rare in a big city like Shanghai – that's a big plus! Unfortunately, the charging station was out of order for some reason. Overall, it's good value for money and I'd recommend it!

Booked a collection executive room and was very happy with my room on the 29th floor with the most perfect view on Shanghai's skyline. Hotel is perfectly located on the Nanjing East road in the very center of Shanghai. Hotel itself and rooms are a bit worn out - need renovation in the nearest future but room was immaculately clean and provided with fresh bottled water every day. Breakfast was very good - both chinese and western. cuisine provided, lot of fruit, pastry and very good coffee. Special thanks to the executive lounge manager Annie who is the most friendly and helpful lady with perfect knowledge of english language. During the happy hours and afternoon tea time Ms. Annie explained clearly all the choices of food served and the beverages.

From the outside, it definitely looks old, a vintage vibe after all, but once you step inside, the hotel is quite clean and nice. The room is also very spacious. The hygiene is good too. The service is decent as well. My only complaint is that I think the TV is too old and small; they could really use a bigger one. Having a tiny TV in a large room just feels... *chuckles*... off. Plus, the TV doesn't even support screen mirroring from a phone. Aren't these modern amenities supposed to be standard now? (Even though it's meant to be nostalgic and retro). I feel like the things that should be modern really ought to be updated. Still, my overall stay was very pleasant. It's just a two-minute walk to the pedestrian street, and getting around everywhere else is super convenient.

Although the room was small, it was very well-appointed. From the window, I could see iconic landmarks like Shanghai Tower and the Oriental Pearl, and Jing'an Temple was right in front of me. The service was standard and reliable, always responsive to requests. Breakfast had limited options but was exquisite. The in-room dining service was very convenient. The wonton noodles I ordered the first time were exceptionally delicious, so I ordered them again today for lunch, but the taste and texture were significantly different, and I'm not sure why. The cuisine at the second-floor restaurant, Yuanyuan, was good and reasonably priced. The service there wasn't overly enthusiastic but was very thorough.

The hotel's location is unbeatable – a 3-minute walk to East Nanjing Road subway station, and 5 minutes directly to The Bund. All the shopping, dining, and entertainment you could want are right at your doorstep. Plus, you can store your luggage, which is so convenient for tourists! Even more surprisingly, the front desk proactively upgraded us to a larger room for free! The room was spacious and bright, with decor that blended old Shanghai charm with modern simplicity. I particularly want to praise the bathroom's wet and dry separation – a huge practical bonus! There's even an old-fashioned iron, which is a major plus for anyone needing to press clothes.

Environment: Traveling with my parents to Shanghai, the first stop was naturally the Bund. The hotel's location is in North Bund. Five stars, no hesitation! This stay was absolutely perfect, from the ambiance to the service, everything was flawless. It truly is an architectural marvel that you *must* visit at least once in your life. I'm completely captivated after staying here. The hotel's environment is simply breathtaking! The world's only 88-meter-deep 'pit' hotel lives up to its reputation. Its unique design, built into the cliff face, exudes sophistication. The dynamic water curtain in the lobby is elegant and lively, and a glance out the window reveals stunning cliffside waterfalls. By day, you see the lush green mountains and rocky cliffs in perfect harmony; as evening falls, the lights illuminate, creating a serene and romantic atmosphere. Every corner showcases thoughtful design, incorporating a mining-inspired aesthetic. Every photo you take is magazine-worthy, offering an immersive experience of nature and architecture blending seamlessly. A special highlight was the 8:30 PM cliffside light and water show featuring themes from 'Shan Hai Jing' (Classic of Mountains and Seas) and a drone performance. Light and water intertwined, drones intricately depicted mythical imagery in the sky, and the cliff face transformed with dynamic light and shadow. The visual and auditory impact was incredible, creating an amazing atmosphere. It's an immersive dive into the collision of technology and culture, an experience definitely not to be missed. The room experience was a delightful surprise! The room design is simple yet grand, with meticulous attention to detail. The sapphire-themed interior felt luxurious. Thoughtful amenities like a Dyson hairdryer and high-end toiletries were provided, and the facilities were comprehensive and modern. The entire room was spotlessly clean, the bedding was soft and comfortable, and the independent bathtub and scenic balcony were definite bonuses. Waking up to the natural scenery in the morning was incredibly blissful, making for a perfectly comfortable stay. The dining experience was a culinary feast! The Chinese restaurant, Cai Feng Lou, lived up to its Black Pearl Restaurant rating. The beef was tender and juicy, and the soup was rich and flavorful. Every dish used high-quality ingredients and had authentic flavors, truly showcasing the essence of Chinese cuisine. The Western restaurant, Fish Eye, had an incredible ambiance, surrounded by an aquarium underwater. The seafood was fresh and sweet, and the Western dishes were exquisite and delicious, both visually appealing and tasty. Whether it was a main meal or a casual snack, everything was incredibly satisfying. And the service was impeccable! A special shout-out to our exclusive butler, Alice. From communicating our needs before check-in and providing detailed explanations of the facilities upon arrival, to offering thoughtful reminders and responding to requests throughout our trip, she was patient, attentive, and incredibly thorough. She anticipated every need, making the entire journey feel so warm and cared for. All the hotel staff were also enthusiastic and professional. The bellhops proactively helped with luggage, and the restaurant staff were attentive and meticulous. You could feel their genuine service attitude everywhere you went. The overall experience was absolutely fantastic. This stay was comprehensively satisfying. The environment, rooms, dining, and service all exceeded expectations. It's definitely a top choice for a vacation or getaway. I'm already looking forward to my next visit and highly recommend it to everyone! 🌟

[”The hotel's location is fantastic, just a 6-7 minute walk to the subway station! The room was clean and bright, and the bedding was incredibly soft, truly like sleeping on a cloud. The front desk staff were so thoughtful, even providing a guide to local eateries. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time!”,”The room was even more spacious than the photos indicated. The bathroom had excellent wet/dry separation and was impeccably clean. The breakfast selection was incredibly diverse, and the freshly prepared noodles were especially fragrant and tasty. We had an exceptionally comfortable stay!”]

The hotel has a charming, secluded feel, located near the Zǐténg Road Metro (Mixc City) exit. Follow the hotel's signs once, and you'll easily find your way. The overall design boasts a distinct Hong Kong flair, blending trendy aesthetics with traditional Chinese elements. The staff were all incredibly professional and friendly, and the hotel offers excellent value for money. Highly recommended – I'll definitely be back next time! 👌

It is an excellent place to stay, especially if you are going to be in Shanghai for more than one night. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The staff are really friendly but did not speak any English, so be prepared to use a translation app. This is an apartment hotel, so there is a washer/dryer machine in your room, which, after a week of travelling in a hot climate, is seriously handy. The food district and Shanghai Brewery is only ten minutes away by taxi, so you have a great selection of restaurants and bars to choose from. One of the best places l have stayed in Shanghai and also one of the most economical! Will definitely be staying there again..

The hotel's location is excellent, making it very convenient for my mom's class reunion. Her classmates, all in their eighties, met up on Nanjing Road, enjoying a quiet spot amidst the bustling city. There are plenty of local eateries and restaurants nearby, so you can easily find food right outside. My mom was very satisfied with her solo trip this time.

During the off-peak May Day holiday, the first choice for an outing to Sheshan is Kaiyuan Mingting! The hotel lobby is spacious and bright, the front desk Xiaoqian is warm and thoughtful, the check-in procedure is efficient and convenient, and the business king room with a large terrace is upgraded for free. The room is clean and comfortable. When I saw the children, I took the initiative to provide children's supplies. There are many plugs in the room, which is very convenient. The network speed is also very fast. It is suitable for business and parents. The hotel is next to Qingpu Sam's Club, which is very convenient for shopping. It takes 20 minutes to drive to Sheshan Forest Park. Overall, the overall experience exceeded expectations, and I will choose here next time!
