There are many cafes and unique shops nearby, though the prices are on the higher side.

8. Shop at Nanjing East Road Pedestrian Street. This is known as a shopping paradise. Walking down Nanjing Road, I really get that feeling of the city lights just coming on. There’s so much delicious food and fun to be had, I feel like my wallet might go bankrupt!🤣

In addition to these classic tourist spots, let me share a few special activities with you:

  • At the end of the show, the audience is invited on stage to dance, making it a super fun and immersive experience!!!

You can also try bike-sharing, which is affordable and convenient, allowing you to pick up and drop off bikes as you go.

Best Time to Visit Shanghai – Based on Experience, Weather & Cost

If you're planning a trip to Shanghai, the best times to visit in terms of weather, crowd levels, and cost-effectiveness are:

1️⃣ Mid-to-late March to April (excluding the Qingming Festival holiday)
2️⃣ May, after the Labor Day holiday
3️⃣ Mid-to-late October to November, after the National Day holiday
4️⃣ September, after the summer break when students return to school

Why These Periods?

  • Comfortable weather – Not too hot or too cold, making it pleasant for outdoor activities.
  • Fewer crowds – You won’t have to deal with overwhelming tourist crowds, making sightseeing more enjoyable.
  • Better experience – You’ll have more flexibility to visit attractions without long wait times.
  • Lower costs – Accommodation and transportation prices are more reasonable compared to peak holiday seasons.

Of course, Shanghai is a great destination year-round, as it has a mild climate without extreme cold or heat. Even during peak seasons, as long as you enjoy the trip and find value in the experience, your journey will be meaningful and fulfilling! 🚀✨

Shanghai Travel Tips You Should Know!

What should I pay attention to when traveling to Shanghai for the first time?

The Bund lights up at 7 PM and turns off at 11 PM. If you're short on time, a cruise is a great option.

Stay near Nanjing Road – It's food heaven, and it's super convenient to reach all major attractions.

Avoid taking taxis in Shanghai – Traffic jams and parking are a hassle. The metro is fast, affordable, and covers almost all tourist spots.

Hongqiao Airport is closer to downtown, while Pudong Airport is closer to Disneyland. For high-speed trains, choose Shanghai Railway Station or Hongqiao Railway Station.

Jing’an Temple lights up only on Fridays, Saturdays, and national holidays, starting at 6 PM (but in hot weather, it might light up at 7 PM instead).

Visit Wukang Mansion in the morning for fewer crowds. Afterward, explore Tian’ai Road, Huaihai Middle Road, and Yuyuan Road for a relaxing walk.

For Disneyland, check for "Early Bird" tickets at least 10 days in advance. If you're staying overnight, Xujiahui is a great option—Metro Line 11 takes you directly to the park!

Located in a prime downtown spot, it's convenient for getting anywhere. Downstairs is very lively with restaurants, a food street, and a shopping complex all in one. During weekdays in summer, there were many foreign guests... and quite a few elderly Chinese too. The front desk often had queues for check-in, and there were always people waiting for taxis outside. Business was really good, yet the room offered excellent value for money! Thanks for the free upgrade to a deluxe suite~ It was newly renovated. I was on a business trip and decided to bring my mom along so she could relax and enjoy herself. **Facilities** They offer a table tennis room, a swimming pool, and a gym. No robots for food delivery pick-up though. **Hygiene** Clean. **Environment** The overall environment is good. The old five-star hotel is very well maintained; it doesn't feel old or dated. The room was newly renovated, but the sense of space wasn't huge, and the bathroom was a bit small. **Service** The service attitude was excellent and professional.

I randomly picked this hotel for a business trip, and it completely exceeded my expectations – a pleasant surprise! The location is incredibly convenient, and the service quality of this long-standing hotel is truly exceptional. Many of the staff members are locals from Shanghai, and they are all incredibly friendly and approachable. You can always see many international guests around the hotel, which clearly indicates that it's consistently busy. The overall experience was fantastic, and I highly recommend it!

Our stay at the Marriott was overall very satisfying. 👍 Upon arrival, the front desk proactively upgraded our room and offered complimentary breakfast for our child, which made for a very pleasant experience. My child went swimming on the sixth floor for two consecutive days. The hotel staff were very attentive, providing towels and water, and there was a lifeguard on duty. The swimming area environment was also excellent. The hotel room size was decent, and the cleanliness was good. It came with a bathtub, which my child loved 💕, although the toilet was a bit old. I'd like to praise the hotel's delicious breakfast 😋, which offered both Chinese and Western sections. The restaurant was spacious with a beautiful ambiance and a wide variety of food options, definitely something to look forward to! The overall check-in experience was great; the lobby staff were very responsive to all requests. Food delivery robots could bring orders directly to our room. When we left, they even gave us small toys as souvenirs. We will definitely visit again!

Staying at this hotel for a week while my daughter interned in Shanghai was a great choice! Its location was perfect for her, allowing easy subway access for work, and for me, offering plenty of options for exploring. It's just a 5-minute walk from the subway, with lots of small shops on Huaihai Road and Changle Road nearby, which was really convenient. Though the facilities are a bit old, it's very clean, and the courtyard is beautiful!

I've stayed at the Pullman Shanghai Jing An multiple times, and as always, the Accor brand delivers consistent quality and reliability. The location is truly a major advantage, being close to Shanghai Railway Station and the subway, which makes catching high-speed trains and transferring incredibly convenient. Check-in and check-out are highly efficient, and the front desk staff are professional and polite, responding to requests promptly and thoughtfully. The rooms are clean and well-maintained, with soft and comfortable bedding. The soundproofing is excellent; even though it's near a transportation hub, it's very quiet once you close the door, allowing for a good night's rest. The spacious desk in the room is perfect for business travelers, and the bathroom facilities are in good condition. The breakfast buffet offers a rich variety of options, both Chinese and Western, with fresh ingredients. The hotel also features a heated swimming pool and a gym, perfect for exercising and relaxing during downtime. I highly recommend this hotel for both business trips and short leisure stays in Shanghai. I'll definitely choose it again on my next visit to Shanghai.

I didn't have high expectations for this trip, but I was completely won over from the moment I walked in. Lily at the front desk was quick and patient with my check-in, and even offered to help with my luggage when she saw me struggling, instantly taking half the fatigue off my shoulders. The room was a delight from the first glance: clean and fresh overall, not a hint of odor, and all the little details were meticulously arranged. The bedding was soft and fluffy, the pillows were just the right height, and the soundproofing was excellent. Hot water was consistent, and water pressure was strong. The hotel's public areas were also very well-maintained, with an elegant and quiet ambiance. It's clear they are genuinely dedicated to service, not just churning out guests. The location is convenient for getting around, with dining and shopping nearby, which saved a lot of time.

The hotel is good, and getting around is convenient. The room is a bit small, but perfectly adequate. The main advantage is its excellent location for exploring. It's easy to find from Exit 7 of Yuyuan Metro Station, and very close to Yuyuan Garden and Chenghuang Temple. The Bund is just a ten-minute walk away. The only downside is the lack of a dedicated concierge service. When picking up stored luggage, there's no one specifically assigned to it, so you have to wait until someone finishes checking in other guests. I hope they can improve this, or perhaps the front desk could contact someone else to retrieve luggage, as the waiting time can be quite long. The front desk is on the 7th floor, and the elevator is also slow. Breakfast is just okay; it's better to order delivery. The Dahuchun shengjian (pan-fried buns) are good and delivered quickly.

Good hotel nice location, so many small things were annoying and don't represent the price or the stars rewarded. I was woken every morning by the bins being collected at 6am, the batteries in the remote weren't working, letters missing from directions, the view from the room was straight into another window, the staff pushed me to write a review and when they saw I wasn't rating 5 stars across the board they told me not to leave a review. There are other great hotels in Shanghai for the same price and the same type of room. The shower was hot, the service from the staff was great and the beds were comfortable.

The hotel's breakfast was good, and the pool wasn't crowded with nice, clean water. The location is indeed very close to the Bund. However, the room facilities are old, the power outlets are loose, and the toilet in the bathroom leaks. The staff basically ignored my two requests on Ctrip: a room with a good view and a high floor. Also, as a smoker, I will certainly abide by the rules on a non-smoking floor, but the sign in the room stating that smoking inside will incur a 2000 RMB cleaning fee felt incredibly ironic and hostile.

The bedding in the room was soft and comfortable, and the soundproofing was excellent, ensuring a good night's rest for my business trip. I happened to be there during a typhoon with heavy rain in Shanghai, and I particularly appreciate the doorman who promptly helped with my luggage. The hotel service was thoughtful and warm; upon learning it was my elder's birthday, they specially prepared a little birthday surprise. The staff member, Lorna, was humble and considerate in every way, and communication was smooth. Fantastic stay in this hotel with spectacular view! The unique cliff view is definitely worth every penny! We have chosen a room with direct view to the waterfall. As our stay was on a Friday, the waterfall was not available which is bit to our disappointment. But waking up this morning (Sat), the waterfall is on. So nice! And so lucky we can catch the chance to take some more photos! At night, there is a lighting show in the open cliff area. So we taken our dinner out the balcony to enjoy the light show. Nice activity at night! The service of this hotel tops all experiences with hotels. When I checked in, the staff asked if can add my WeChat account for instant customer service purposes. Then I received tips for the nearby travel spots, dining assistance, caring services such as asking me if needs to take my food delivery up to the room for me and asking if I need another taller pillow etc. The complementary fruit platter and dessert and some freebie at time of checkout are indeed a bonus surprise.

The location is unbeatable. It's super convenient – just take the escalator up to the second floor from the Purple Vine Road metro station exit towards MixC, and you'll see the hotel. It would be even better if there was a convenience store nearby. The hotel environment is also excellent, with large floor-to-ceiling windows that provide amazing natural light in the morning. The room itself is very tidy. The only downside is that the hallway decor is a bit peculiar, especially the wallpaper – it actually startled me the first time I stayed here. When they found out I was traveling with a child, they even upgraded me to a very luxurious room for free. A big thank you again to the front desk lady! The biggest advantage of staying here is the absolutely fantastic location! If I come back again, I will definitely choose this place. It was a very satisfying travel experience and a wonderful trip!
