There are many cafes and unique shops nearby, though the prices are on the higher side.

7. Indulge in local delicacies at Chenghuang Temple Food Street, and experience the charm of Shanghai’s nightlife. Here’s a little tips👀: the snacks at the beginning of the alley are more expensive, but the farther you go, the cheaper they get!🥰

8. Shop at Nanjing East Road Pedestrian Street. This is known as a shopping paradise. Walking down Nanjing Road, I really get that feeling of the city lights just coming on. There’s so much delicious food and fun to be had, I feel like my wallet might go bankrupt!🤣

In addition to these classic tourist spots, let me share a few special activities with you:

  • At the end of the show, the audience is invited on stage to dance, making it a super fun and immersive experience!!!

  • Hongqiao Airport (SHA): Closer to the city, convenient transportation. You can take Metro Line 2/10, or airport buses to downtown.
  • Pudong International Airport (PVG): Farther from the city but closer to Disneyland. Accessible by Metro Line 2, Maglev Train, or airport buses.

🚄 Train Stations

  • Shanghai Railway Station: Metro Lines 1, 3, 4, and buses to the city.

Transportation in Shanghai is very convenient. Honestly, there's no need to take a taxi— the metro is more than enough! Multiple lines connect the main areas and popular attractions. Buses and taxis are also easily available, providing convenient travel options. You can also try bike-sharing, which is affordable and convenient, allowing you to pick up and drop off bikes as you go.

Best Time to Visit Shanghai – Based on Experience, Weather & Cost

If you're planning a trip to Shanghai, the best times to visit in terms of weather, crowd levels, and cost-effectiveness are:

1️⃣ Mid-to-late March to April (excluding the Qingming Festival holiday)
2️⃣ May, after the Labor Day holiday
3️⃣ Mid-to-late October to November, after the National Day holiday
4️⃣ September, after the summer break when students return to school

Why These Periods?

  • Comfortable weather – Not too hot or too cold, making it pleasant for outdoor activities.
  • Fewer crowds – You won’t have to deal with overwhelming tourist crowds, making sightseeing more enjoyable.
  • Better experience – You’ll have more flexibility to visit attractions without long wait times.
  • Lower costs – Accommodation and transportation prices are more reasonable compared to peak holiday seasons.

Of course, Shanghai is a great destination year-round, as it has a mild climate without extreme cold or heat. Even during peak seasons, as long as you enjoy the trip and find value in the experience, your journey will be meaningful and fulfilling! 🚀✨

👍Haling Noodle House: Their Bullfrog Noodles are the star of the menu! The bullfrog meat is tender and juicy, served in generous portions. The noodles soak up the rich, flavorful broth, making them incredibly savory and spicy!

Shanghai Travel Tips You Should Know!

What should I pay attention to when traveling to Shanghai for the first time?

The Bund lights up at 7 PM and turns off at 11 PM. If you're short on time, a cruise is a great option.

Stay near Nanjing Road – It's food heaven, and it's super convenient to reach all major attractions.

Avoid taking taxis in Shanghai – Traffic jams and parking are a hassle. The metro is fast, affordable, and covers almost all tourist spots.

Hongqiao Airport is closer to downtown, while Pudong Airport is closer to Disneyland. For high-speed trains, choose Shanghai Railway Station or Hongqiao Railway Station.

Jing’an Temple lights up only on Fridays, Saturdays, and national holidays, starting at 6 PM (but in hot weather, it might light up at 7 PM instead).

Visit Wukang Mansion in the morning for fewer crowds. Afterward, explore Tian’ai Road, Huaihai Middle Road, and Yuyuan Road for a relaxing walk.

For Disneyland, check for "Early Bird" tickets at least 10 days in advance. If you're staying overnight, Xujiahui is a great option—Metro Line 11 takes you directly to the park!

Good location as it’s along the Nanjing pedestrian lane ! .about 5 mins walk to the metro . Lots of food and restaurants when u step out of hotel . Many mega malls in Shanghai n easily acacia metro . Hotel room when we first check in was a king junior suite however its old design with dated furniture. The sofa is v dirty n causes us to itch when sitting on it . We were able to change our room to a newly renovated ones which was clean n modern . However the bathroom does not have any hooks or towel racks to hang up yr clothings or towels . Toilet is not fitted with bidet spray . But overall the newly renovated room was much better . The staff is v helpful in helping to change the room . Will stay again but in The newly renovated ones .

My stay at Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai New World was very comfortable overall. I'd especially like to mention Justin at the front desk – he was genuinely helpful, handled check-in efficiently, and even gave us a high-floor room when he saw I was with elderly parents and children. No fancy tricks, just a really thoughtful gesture. The executive lounge has a great atmosphere, quiet and peaceful, and watching the Nanjing Road scenery from there was very relaxing. I'll definitely choose this place again next time I visit.

The room was clean and tidy, with good soundproofing, and the floor-to-ceiling windows on the upper floors offered a great view. The Jiangnan region truly shines during the plum rain season. I've stayed here over 10 times, and each visit offers a unique experience. In the mornings, I enjoy a leisurely stroll nearby, soaking in the misty plum rain, then return to the hotel to gaze at the beautiful garden views. Amidst my usual hurried comings and goings, this place feels like a welcome stopover, prompting me to slow down. This time, I deliberately flew in a day early, simply to unwind and enjoy a full 24 hours of relaxation at the hotel. The service is incredibly thoughtful and comfortable. It's clean, tidy, and maintains a perfect sense of privacy. In today's busy world, it provides a much-needed space to breathe slowly. A true haven for de-stressing.

I highly recommend the Pullman Shanghai Jing An. My stay in the Deluxe King Room was perfect, deserving a full five-star rating. The hotel is located in the heart of Jing An, within walking distance of the metro station, making it incredibly convenient to get to major commercial areas. The room was spacious and elegant, the bed soft and comfortable, and the entire room was spotlessly clean with excellent soundproofing. The front desk service was attentive and efficient, housekeeping was meticulous and thorough, and the breakfast offered a rich variety of delicious options. The overall ambiance is light luxury and grand, making it perfectly suited for business or leisure travelers. I will definitely choose to stay here again on my next visit to Shanghai.

This time, I stayed at the voco hotel with my family, and it far exceeded our expectations! The hotel's location is superb, within walking distance to Taikoo Hui, Nanjing West Road commercial district, People's Square, and Zhangyuan. As a place for relaxation, it's also very private and surprisingly quiet despite being in a bustling area. This hotel features an all-suite design, making for a very comfortable stay, unlike other standard five-star hotels. I also love the hotel's design style – it's very old-money chic and modern. Highly recommend!

Traveling with my kids for a vacation, this hotel's location is fantastic. It's within walking distance to the subway station, Yu Garden, and the Huangpu River, making it super convenient for getting around and sightseeing. The staff were all very warm and welcoming, and our room was clean, tidy, and spacious, making for a very comfortable stay. The complimentary travel photoshoot experience exceeded our expectations. There was no pushy sales or forced consumption throughout, and the photography experience itself was great. The only minor downside was the hot weather during our trip, but overall, it was still a wonderfully pleasant and satisfying vacation! I highly recommend Hoshino Resorts KAI hotels for your travels. We'll definitely come back if we get the chance.

I recently stayed at Yitel Premium and absolutely loved it! The location is amazing—right in the heart of the pedestrian street, so it's super convenient to walk anywhere. It's also really close to a famous Xiaolongbao restaurant, and DiDi drivers can pick you up right in front of the hotel. The hotel itself is very clean, and housekeeping did a great job cleaning my room every single day. The best part was that my stay coincided with my birthday, and the staff was so sweet to upgrade my room for free! The service here is top-notch. I also loved the complimentary tea and coffee in the lobby, and the free washing machine was a huge plus. The only minor things were a slight cigarette smell that probably came through the AC vents, which was understandable. However, the only real downside was that my room faced the main road, so the traffic noise was quite loud. Overall, it was a wonderful stay and I highly recommend it!

The hotel is well-located, right in the middle of the pedestrian street. We stayed in a standard room, but after our flight was canceled due to a typhoon, we extended our stay for another day and were moved to an upgraded room. The room was fantastic, we were probably lucky. It had two rooms: a living room with a sofa and a magnificent view of the pedestrian street. Besides a tea set, there was also a coffee machine. There was also a large, separate bathroom. It's an ideal option for a family with a child. The breakfasts are very good, with options for both children and adults. The only thing I didn't notice was an omelet station; there were fried eggs and scrambled eggs instead. But you won't go hungry; a delicious and hearty breakfast is guaranteed.

The location is excellent, very convenient for transportation, and the Bund is just a ten-minute walk away. Downstairs, there are plenty of local specialty snacks, making it incredibly convenient for both tourists and business travelers. It offers great value for money. My only complaint is that as soon as I entered the room, I noticed a strong smell of smoke. There was a clear no-smoking sign in the room, so aren't those who smoke in there a bit selfish? Since I was only staying for one night, I didn't bother asking staff to switch rooms. I turned on the ventilation and opened the windows and doors for about three or four hours before the smell mostly dissipated. The staff's service attitude was excellent. Please enforce the no-smoking policy in rooms more strictly. The fines clearly stated on the no-smoking signs should be strictly implemented. There's a police station right next door, so if anyone resists the fine, just report it to them.

I booked this hotel based on a friend's recommendation, and I'm glad I did. The room facilities are well-maintained, and the customer service is excellent. They even offer room service until after 10:30 PM! We also enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Chinese restaurant on the second floor – my kids loved it! While the breakfast buffet isn't super extensive, the quality of the food is very good. The location is fantastic, right next to Jing'an Temple and Jiuguang Department Store, making it super convenient for dining and shopping. Public transport is also easily accessible. The only minor downside is that the road outside can get quite congested, especially when trying to hail a taxi. It's fine if you're not in a rush, but it can be a bit of a hassle if you're on a tight schedule.

The Langham's quality is consistently excellent, as always. From the moment you step in, the signature scent and the charming pink-themed amenities all reflect exceptional taste. The service is incredibly proactive and outstanding, making for an extremely comfortable stay. Sicily at the front desk was sweet and enthusiastic, helping us upgrade to a wonderful room type with excellent privacy. Located in the bustling Xintiandi, the location is incredibly convenient, yet the room itself is very quiet – a true hidden gem in the city. The bedding is comfortable, and the toiletries are Diptyque. Breakfast is fresh with new items introduced weekly. Overall, I highly recommend it; if I'm on a business trip nearby again, I'll definitely choose to stay here.

1. **Unbeatable Location:** Situated at 380 Weihai Road, it's a mere 3-minute walk to Nanjing West Road Metro Station (Lines 2, 12, 13). There's a private internal passage directly connecting to HKRI Taikoo Hui. Exploring Zhangyuan, Plaza 66, Xintiandi, and the Site of the First National Congress of the CPC are all within walking distance. You'll have no worries about dining or shopping. 2. **Exceptional Design & Comfort:** Designed by Neri&Hu, the hotel features a grey-toned wabi-sabi style with Thai Zen influences. Standard rooms start from a spacious 46 sqm, with large floor-to-ceiling windows for excellent natural light. Amenities include organic Australian aromatherapy brand Grown Alchemist, Dyson hairdryers, Sonos/Marshall speakers, and complimentary soft drinks in the mini-bar for the first round. Thoughtful touches like aromatherapy diffusers and bedtime ginger tea are delightful. The overall vibe is that of a 'hidden oasis in the city center' – not ostentatious, but effortlessly sophisticated. 3. **Impressive Dining & Facilities:** La Scala Italian restaurant has received a Michelin Plate, and URBAN Thai restaurant has a solid reputation. The breakfast offers unique Thai snacks like Tom Yum Wontons, Thai Milk Tea, and Mango Sticky Rice. The underground 25-meter heated infinity pool with a starry ceiling is rarely crowded and perfect for photos. The Thai SPA, with its essential oils, receives many positive reviews. 4. **Service Varies (Generally Good):** Most guests find the staff polite and discreet. If you note an anniversary or birthday in advance, you'll likely receive decorations or a room upgrade. Guests often receive a small elephant souvenir upon check-out, and children's amenities are proactively provided for families. ⚠️ **Points to Consider (Avoid Pitfalls):** 1. **Soundproofing Can Be Hit or Miss:** Some rooms in the corridors or facing Weihai Road might pick up sounds of opening doors or traffic. For light sleepers, it's advisable to request a quiet, higher-floor room away from corridor ends when booking. 2. **Breakfast Not Overly Lavish:** It's a refined offering with fewer hot Chinese dishes and no traditional local breakfast items (like shengjianbao or youtiao). If you're looking for a wide variety, you might prefer to dine at Taikoo Hui. 3. **Understated Entrance:** The entrance is tucked away on a small road, making it easy to miss on your first visit. The lobby also isn't as grand as traditional five-star hotels. Those who prioritize pomp and circumstance might find it 'not luxurious enough.' 4. **Occasional Staff Shortages During Peak Season:** This can lead to slower service at the front desk or a perfunctory turndown service. However, these are rare occurrences.

During the Dragon Boat Festival, I brought my family for a trip nearby. The Shimao Wonderland InterContinental, though I'd heard mixed reviews online, I decided to experience it for myself. After confirming our check-in time and our preference for a quiet room, Hanna from the front desk proactively added me on WeChat. She reminded me that because it was a holiday and there was an amusement park nearby, parking might be tight, advising me to inform her 30 minutes in advance so she could make arrangements. We checked in on Dragon Boat Festival noon, and I was surprised to see the lobby's seating area packed with people and a long queue at the front desk. However, thanks to Hanna's foresight, our room was already reserved, making the check-in process quick and efficient. Our room was arranged away from the elevator, and the soundproofing was remarkably good. We couldn't hear any plumbing from the adjacent rooms or the floors above/below, whether it was the shower or the toilet. This undisturbed experience is a rare find, whether in hotels built years ago or newly constructed ones, a truly effective soundproofing is hard to come by. There was a minor issue with the sink drainage during our stay, which was promptly resolved, showing their attentive service. However, I have to complain about the sink's design; it was a square basin, which easily splashed water, and water tended to accumulate near the faucet – not very practical. Our stay included a complimentary travel photoshoot with three free photos. The photographer was excellent at creating a lively atmosphere, and our family portrait turned out vibrant and natural, boosting our mood significantly! Online reviews for the Western restaurant were mediocre, but the Chinese restaurant, Cai Feng Lou, received many positive comments. I spontaneously decided to try it, worried about not getting a table, but Hanna immediately helped us book a table for that evening. The standout dish in the set meal was the diced wagyu beef – a true test of a chef's skill. Each piece was large, yet perfectly tender, flavorful, and didn't get stuck in your teeth. This mastery certainly justifies the numerous trophies and prestigious brand accolades at the entrance! At the restaurant entrance, there was also an introduction to the Shimao Quarry Hotel's background and construction history. Indeed, many aspects of its design were quite visionary, considering it took 12 years to build! The cliffside light show at 8:30 PM featured stunning opening audio effects, and the fountain design added a lot to the visual impact of the mythological story. The Chenshan Botanical Garden, included in our hotel package, was even more amazing. I felt like I could spend two days there, enjoying nature, the charm of the vast lawn, the beauty of the dawn redwood forest, and the tranquility of the camphor forest. Overall, it was a good experience, but the price was just too unfriendly. Even without it being a major holiday, it was so expensive. Given the current economic climate, a more affordable price would be needed to maintain sustained market demand.

Coming to Shanghai, I specifically chose the Pagoda Hotel (Fudan University, Shanghai Branch) that I've been eyeing for a while. I booked the Deluxe Family Twin Room for four people, and the experience truly exceeded my expectations! First of all, the hotel's location is fantastic! It's right in the Wujiaochang business district and KIC (Knowledge Innovation Community), next to University Road, which has a ton of trendy restaurants and cafes. In the evening, we went to a folk bar nearby, and it was a wonderful experience. It's also super close to Fudan University; we even took a walk on campus in the morning, which was lovely. Back in the room, it was incredibly spacious, absolutely not cramped for a family of four. There were two large beds, plus a tatami mat that could be used for sitting or lying down. We had tea and snacks on it during the day, and there was plenty of space to move around. The smart room control system was so convenient; a simple voice command could open or close the curtains and turn the lights on or off. Through the panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, we had an unobstructed view of Wujiaochang's city skyline, which was truly expansive. The hotel's service was also excellent. The front desk staff were very welcoming, and the butler even asked about our accommodation preferences in advance. There's also a free self-service late-night snack bar after 9 PM, which was a pleasant surprise! The mini-bar was complimentary, and all the in-room amenities were well-stocked. Plus, food deliveries were brought up by a robot, which was both convenient and private. The hotel also has a gym and a laundry room, which is incredibly thoughtful for families with children, allowing us to wash and dry clothes anytime. Finally, a quick reminder: hotels in Shanghai typically don't proactively provide disposable toothbrushes, but you can always ask the front desk if you need one. However, this is a minor detail, and overall, this Pagoda is definitely worth recommending, especially for family trips – you can't go wrong with it!

The Jiayu Hotel is right next to Jiaxuan, essentially two types of accommodations under one brand. Jiayu is more like an apartment-style hotel, which is a great option if you're traveling with children or elderly family members. You can choose a suite with a kitchen, complete with an induction cooktop, range hood, and dishwasher.

During my stay, Audrey at the front desk provided incredibly warm and welcoming service. From check-in to answering questions about getting around, she was always smiling, enthusiastic, and patient. She processed everything quickly and efficiently, and proactively provided helpful information about the hotel's facilities, breakfast times, and local transportation routes. Her attention to detail truly showcased her professionalism. She handled all inquiries calmly and thoroughly, speaking in a gentle and polite tone, even when there was a large crowd. Her thoughtful service eased the fatigue of travel, and I genuinely felt the hotel's dedication. This employee's sincerity and professionalism exemplify excellent service and are truly commendable, and she certainly helps to uphold the hotel's great reputation.

I've found a real gem in this modern tower. The hotel occupies floors 15 to 18, and the reception is a 10/10 – the staff are super friendly, they offer coffee, tea, and little pastries, and there's also a very comfortable coworking area. The rooms are like a small studio with a kitchenette: microwave, washing machine, dryer, a full-size fridge, and plenty of closet space. The bed and pillows are extremely comfortable, and the shower… wow! The water pressure is amazing, absolutely wonderful. The door is floor-to-ceiling, so steam from long showers doesn't escape into the rest of the room. The sink area is a bit small, but it's fine for one or two people. Special mention: the magnifying mirror and the Japanese toilet – a real luxury that I really appreciated. We were so comfortable that we ended up extending our stay by 3 more days. The only downside: the metro is about 1 km away, maybe a bit more. But the value for money is so good that what you save on the hotel easily covers a taxi ride. From now on, this will be my go-to place in Shanghai. Highly recommended. I'll definitely be back.

The service was warm, thoughtful, and meticulous. The room was clean and tidy. Whenever we needed something, we'd call the front desk and a staff member would quickly bring it to our room. A great experience overall.

The room was clean and modern, and the balcony offered a great view. The front desk staff proactively upgraded me to an executive room, which got plenty of sunlight. The service was excellent, and the location near the Songjiang attractions was very convenient thanks to the PATA house.
