I just got back from Taiwan recently (yes, the food was amazing!), and I want to share everything I learned about the arrival process to help fellow Malaysians breeze through immigration. Here’s what you need to know 👇
📄 What’s TWAC?
TWAC stands for Taiwan Online Arrival Card. It’s a mandatory online form that all foreign visitors — including Malaysians — must fill in before arriving in Taiwan.
It was introduced by Taiwan’s immigration department to simplify arrival procedures and reduce paper-based forms at the airport. While the paper version still exists for now, TWAC will fully replace it from 1 October 2025.
🔍 Here’s what the TWAC is in simple terms:
A digital form to be completed within 3 days of arrival, collecting your:
- Full name
- Passport number
- Flight number
- Accommodation address in Taiwan
Once submitted, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a QR code — show this at immigration when you land.
🧾 Is TWAC a Visa?
Nope! Malaysians can visit Taiwan visa-free for up to 30 days, but TWAC is still required.
TWAC is not a visa — it’s a separate document that records your travel details for immigration purposes.

👥 Who Needs to Submit the TWAC?
If you’re a Malaysian citizen visiting Taiwan for tourism, business, or visiting friends/family, you need to submit the TWAC — even if you’re visa-exempt.
This applies to all foreigners arriving by air who:
- Do not hold a Taiwan residence permit
- Are staying short-term
- Plan to enter through a Taiwanese airport
📝 How to Fill Out the TWAC
💻 Option 1: Online (Highly Recommended!)
Visit the official site: https://twac.immigration.gov.tw/ or https://niaspeedy.immigration.gov.tw
✅ Step 1: Choose Language
Select your preferred language: English, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.
(Most Malaysians use English or Chinese.)
✅ Step 2: Fill in Personal Details
Provide:
- Full name (as in passport)
- Gender
- Date of birth
- Nationality (e.g. Malaysia 🇲🇾)
- Passport number
- Passport expiry date
✅ Step 3: Enter Travel Details
Fill in:
- Purpose of entry (e.g., tourism, business, visiting relatives)
- Flight number (arrival to Taiwan)
- Arrival date
- Port of entry (e.g., Taoyuan International Airport)
✅ Step 4: Enter Your Taiwan Address
Provide the address of where you’re staying in Taiwan:
- Hotel name and address
- Or friend/relative’s home (if applicable)
💡 Use your booking confirmation to copy & paste the hotel address correctly.
✅ Step 5: Provide Contact Info
Input:
- Mobile phone number (can be Malaysia or Taiwan number)
- Email address (you’ll receive confirmation here)
✅ Step 6: Submit the Form
Double-check everything, then click Submit.
📧 You’ll receive a confirmation email — sometimes it includes a QR code, but it’s mostly for record purposes.
✅ Step 7: Screenshot or Save Confirmation
📸 Take a screenshot of the final page or confirmation email — just in case you’re asked at immigration (though it's not always required).
🛬 Option 2: At the Airport
Still possible for now, but not ideal. Taiwan airports may still provide paper cards, but with long queues and limited staff assistance. Starting October 2025, the paper option will be discontinued — so better to do it online!

Although it's an 8-9 minute walk to the MRT station, it's only two stops away from the convention center. I had a pleasant stay at Sheraton Grand Taipei. The staff were very professional and spoke English well, which made communication smooth. There is a convenient luggage storage service available, which was a big help.
The room was clean and well-equipped with essentials such as a hairdryer, drinking glasses, dishes, and complimentary bottled water. However, one point to note is that the lower floor houses the main restaurant, and during lunchtime, the area gets quite busy with tour groups and other guests. As a result, food smells can linger in the elevators and even stick to your clothes when walking past. It would be great if the hotel provided air freshener spray in the room to help with this.
The location is excellent, just one stop from Taipei Main Station and within walking distance to the NanXi shopping area, making it extremely convenient for both travel and leisure.

The hotel location is superb without a doubt. Convenient and Clean. However, because we booked a triple room for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 toddlers), they only provided towels for 3 pax. When we requested for an extra towel, they were unable to. The bathroom and shower area is separated which is good but the frosted glass door for both are those not lockable kinds. There was a huge group of students hotel stayers during our stay and it literally jammed up the lift lobby every night around 8 pm++ (planned to come back earlier or later else, you will clash with the group). The fun tent meant for kids is located on the 8th floor but we cannot access it using the same lift from our hotel room, we would have to go to the lobby and change to the other lifts to reach the 8th floor. Luckily, the hotel is able to arrange for our last breakfast at 5 am (collect at the lobby) when we check out as our flight was early in the morning.DariINR 9,912

Absolutely fantastic! It's an old-school, grand hotel that's really impressive. The management is excellent, the rooms are well-maintained, and the bathroom was spotless – not a spec of dirt anywhere. Our suite had multiple balconies, but the neighboring Sky Room offers a better value with its direct view of Taipei 101, even if the balcony is a bit smaller. I really like the Regent Taipei. It feels quite grand, and even though it's an older hotel, it's very well-maintained. The golden key for the room door is a cute touch! The location is also excellent; you can walk to Zhongshan Station and Ningxia Night Market. The buffet breakfast offers a great variety of local snacks, and the restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating, making for a comfortable dining experience. The service is also top-notch. I had stayed in a different Green World with decent experience. But this place had rather snarky service staff which threw me off because I always had good customer service in Taiwan. The lobby and entrance is also shady like a backdoor. The soundproofing was terrible. The room next door is separated from me by a false wall so I could hear the baby crying and the family in it having a three generation discussion. I won't want to come back.

Awesome rustic vibes. Modern and compact. I booked 2x couple rooms and 1 twin bed room. Low priced and within walking distance to anyway of Ximen Ding not exceeding 15mins.
We lived on the 2nd floor where the self service laundry mat is. Love their communal area cum lobby - we bought takeaways and ate there. Just need to clear after eating. Hotel papa whale invitesu singers to perform during weekend afternoons. And it’s surrounded by yummy food - TKK Chicken and the dumpling joint. Highly recommended !

Hotel is well situated in the heart of Taipei Xinyi area. Just 5mins walk to Taipei 101 via an overhead bridge. The deluxe room while not the biggest I have experience, but still pretty big and comfy. Hotel service is excellent. Even got a surprise birthday cake from them when I was there. Only issue i had was the TV does not really allow me to do mirroring nor it support chromecast. So kind of stuck with the channels that the hotel provided for night in room entertainment. An area which I find could be improved would be the hotel breakfast offering, as there is a lack of variety from day to day. Other than that the overall experience has been great. Overall a pleasant stay. Staff are polite and pleasant, the dried tomatoes at L5 is good. 😊 only hair dryer, handwash, body wash and 2in1 shampoo/conditioner provided in room so be sure so bring your other toiletries if you need!

- bus stop outside with buses that gets you to most places
Cons 😞
- poor sound proofing (can hear kids running down the rooms, people chatting outside, opening/closing of doors)
- room not super conducive for light sleepers. E.g there is gap between the pelmet and curtain so once the sun rises, the light will shine into the room, your room will not be in the complete black-out state. Can bring an eye mask to help with this!
- very basic room amenities.

The Taipei Fullerton is a well located and comfortable place to stay, but it's let down for cleanliness and showing it's age a little.
The first room that I was shown had someone's left half ice cream in the fridge, and the bathroom had not been cleaned properly.
Whilst they did act and moved me to a new room (which I think was a slight upgrade as it had a sofa and a little more space), you can still notice that the windows suffer from the humidity and aren't kept in good condition, and other small things like this, like the lights in the lift having dust and dirt inside them.
Also the lighting in the bathrooms is quite poor, you cannot easily see yourself in the mirror which can make shaving difficult.
A real shame these small details aren't kept on top of, because otherwise the staff are lovely and the bed is one of the most comfortable I've slept in at a hotel.DariINR 9,322

For the past 10 years, whenever I visit Taipei, I’d definitely book my few nights stay at Star Beauty.
I wouldn’t say it’s the best but their prices were pretty reasonable with good bed and they upholds a standard of cleanliness.
The nearest MRT station would be Jiantan but it’s probably a 10 mins walk. And about 13 mins walk to Shilin Night Market from hotel.

We stayed on the 17th floor, and the shower pressure was unbelievably low – it felt weaker than a toilet flush. I reported this to the front desk. They asked if we'd like them to send someone to check it, but it was already past 9 PM, and we had already showered. Given we were only staying one night, I simply wanted to bring it to their attention, not necessarily request an immediate fix. Whether the hotel followed up to inspect or repair it after we checked out remains to be seen, and will be for the next guest to find out.
Also, the pillows were quite soft. I asked the front desk if they had firmer options. The staff member who answered the phone surprisingly asked how many nights we were staying. After I replied 'one night,' she just said, 'Oh, we only have one buckwheat pillow and one memory foam pillow.' So, we had no choice but to try those.
