Taiwan Arrival Card Guide: How to Fill Out the Online Immigration Form

I just got back from Taiwan recently (yes, the food was amazing!), and I want to share everything I learned about the arrival process to help fellow Malaysians breeze through immigration. Here’s what you need to know 👇
📄 What’s TWAC?
TWAC stands for Taiwan Online Arrival Card. It’s a mandatory online form that all foreign visitors — including Malaysians — must fill in before arriving in Taiwan.
It was introduced by Taiwan’s immigration department to simplify arrival procedures and reduce paper-based forms at the airport. While the paper version still exists for now, TWAC will fully replace it from 1 October 2025.
🔍 Here’s what the TWAC is in simple terms:
A digital form to be completed within 3 days of arrival, collecting your:
- Full name
- Passport number
- Flight number
- Accommodation address in Taiwan
Once submitted, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a QR code — show this at immigration when you land.
🧾 Is TWAC a Visa?
Nope! Malaysians can visit Taiwan visa-free for up to 30 days, but TWAC is still required.
TWAC is not a visa — it’s a separate document that records your travel details for immigration purposes.

👥 Who Needs to Submit the TWAC?
If you’re a Malaysian citizen visiting Taiwan for tourism, business, or visiting friends/family, you need to submit the TWAC — even if you’re visa-exempt.
This applies to all foreigners arriving by air who:
- Do not hold a Taiwan residence permit
- Are staying short-term
- Plan to enter through a Taiwanese airport
📝 How to Fill Out the TWAC
💻 Option 1: Online (Highly Recommended!)
Visit the official site: https://twac.immigration.gov.tw/ or https://niaspeedy.immigration.gov.tw
✅ Step 1: Choose Language
Select your preferred language: English, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.
(Most Malaysians use English or Chinese.)
✅ Step 2: Fill in Personal Details
Provide:
- Full name (as in passport)
- Gender
- Date of birth
- Nationality (e.g. Malaysia 🇲🇾)
- Passport number
- Passport expiry date
✅ Step 3: Enter Travel Details
Fill in:
- Purpose of entry (e.g., tourism, business, visiting relatives)
- Flight number (arrival to Taiwan)
- Arrival date
- Port of entry (e.g., Taoyuan International Airport)
✅ Step 4: Enter Your Taiwan Address
Provide the address of where you’re staying in Taiwan:
- Hotel name and address
- Or friend/relative’s home (if applicable)
💡 Use your booking confirmation to copy & paste the hotel address correctly.
✅ Step 5: Provide Contact Info
Input:
- Mobile phone number (can be Malaysia or Taiwan number)
- Email address (you’ll receive confirmation here)
✅ Step 6: Submit the Form
Double-check everything, then click Submit.
📧 You’ll receive a confirmation email — sometimes it includes a QR code, but it’s mostly for record purposes.
✅ Step 7: Screenshot or Save Confirmation
📸 Take a screenshot of the final page or confirmation email — just in case you’re asked at immigration (though it's not always required).
🛬 Option 2: At the Airport
Still possible for now, but not ideal. Taiwan airports may still provide paper cards, but with long queues and limited staff assistance. Starting October 2025, the paper option will be discontinued — so better to do it online!

You can submit the TWAC up to 72 hours (3 days) before arriving in Taiwan.

The Howard Plaza Hotel has an excellent location, very close to Daan Forest Park and Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT Station. The surrounding area has a full range of amenities and is very safe. The staff are attentive and friendly. As an older hotel, the facilities are a bit dated, and the room decor has a classic, slightly old-fashioned feel, but all of this is perfectly acceptable. The only downside was that the room number sign on my floor (I think it was the 6th floor, facing Ren'ai Road) seemed to be incorrect, directing me in the wrong direction from the elevator. I walked all the way to the end of the hall and couldn't find my room, so I had to turn back and eventually found it in the opposite direction. It was a bit frustrating. There's construction on one side of the hotel, and the old windows don't close properly, so diesel fumes from the crane wafted directly into the bedroom. Not to mention the noise from the building work – imagine driving a car without air conditioning, stuck behind a diesel truck constantly spewing exhaust fumes. The result? A headache that required painkillers.
Luckily, Trip.com was great and got me a room change.
The mattress is very soft, so if you prefer lumbar support, you should reconsider. The family with kids next door was very noisy, and the front desk promptly moved me to another room. The transportation is very convenient, with the MRT station just a two-minute walk away.
The hotel lobby is like an MRT platform, bustling with people – from young to old, student groups to limping seniors, all attending some event. It's the opposite of quiet. If you enjoy crowded fairs, you might like the lively atmosphere. Even checking in took about 10 minutes.DariMXN$ 3,020

The service from one of the front desk staff, I think her name was Jess or Jessie, was absolutely terrible. Her tone of voice made me feel completely disrespected. I arrived early and had called the day before to see if an early check-in could be arranged due to a long layover. However, I was told they received no such notification and that I absolutely had to wait until 3 PM to check in, not even a half-hour earlier. Her manner felt like she was interrogating me, which was very frustrating. In the end, I just gave up and checked in after returning from afternoon tea. The location is excellent and very convenient, and the rooms are good too – I recommend a higher floor! The gym is a bit basic, only having treadmills. Next time I'm in Taipei, I'd love to stay at the Grand Hotel again! I particularly enjoy hotels with a rich history, and the Grand Hotel was the perfect choice in Taipei. We stayed in the Kirin Hall in the back building, and they provided a dedicated car to take us there, even helping with our luggage throughout the journey – truly excellent! The Kirin Hall rooms offer direct views of Taipei 101, which was fantastic. The hotel also has two secret tunnels that guests can tour, and since we stayed for a week, we got to see both, which I really enjoyed. A huge convenience is the free shuttle service; besides the regular shuttle to Yuanshan Station, they also offer a weekend service to Jiantan Station. The only minor improvement I'd suggest is for the housekeeping to be a bit more meticulous (it's already very good, but sometimes I noticed a few hairs that weren't cleaned). The environment is great, with a mall downstairs that houses several major brands – perfect for a rainy day. The surrounding area is also very convenient, with plenty of places for a walk. Ningxia Night Market is within walking distance, not too far at all.
Service and cleanliness are excellent. The front desk lady who checked me in was Japanese and spoke Mandarin; she was friendly and patient. The bellboy was also very polite, proactively helping us with our luggage and very chatty. I had left a note requesting a firm pillow, and housekeeping brought it to me the very next day, which was fantastic.
However, the facilities are really hard to rate... The hotel is quite old. My room was on the top floor and lacked the desk and chair shown in the pictures, as well as the shelf under the TV that could be used for storage. On the top floor, there was an intermittent low-frequency noise during the day, whether from the air conditioning or something else, which was quite uncomfortable. Fortunately, it wasn't there at night when I was sleeping. I don't think the room facilities are up to five-star standards, but the service and breakfast were still excellent. Great service and location, but an absolute nightmare of a stay

I booked this hotel for a one-night trip to Taipei for a concert—just me, alone, excited to see my idol. Unfortunately, the stay itself was a total nightmare.
Let me start with the positives: the service is excellent—knowledgeable, quick, and polite. The location is also perfect, with a direct path from the Taipei MRT station to the hotel, and you can reach Taoyuan Airport in under an hour. There's even a water machine in the corridor, which was handy for getting hot water.
But that's where the good ends. The hotel is shockingly old—worse than any dilapidated hotel in Hong Kong at a third of the price. For what I paid, I did not expect this level of neglect.
I couldn't book a single or double room, so they gave me a room with three beds. I lay down on the first bed furthest from the window and soon felt itchy—I suspect bed lice. The other two beds near the window seemed fine, but that's already unacceptable. And the blankets were so thin I felt completely insecure—like there was nothing protecting me.
The bathroom was a disaster. Hair on the wall, a small dark spot in the bathtub, and no hairdryer. The toilet barely flushed—I had to press the button multiple times, and the toilet paper just wouldn't go away. As for the shower—I've never seen anything like this in 40 years of traveling. Not even in mainland China hotels I visited as a kid with my grandparents. The knob was super loose and barely functional. Turning it to the hot water side did nothing—no water came out. Slightly turning the other way (still on the red hot side) gave only cold water. I could not get hot water at all. At breakfast, I overheard Japanese ladies complaining about the exact same issue. Unbelievable.
There were also zero amenities. They hide behind ”eco-friendly,” but in Japan, you can still ask for supplies. Here, I didn't even have tissue paper in the room—I had to go back to the toilet to get toilet paper.
I couldn't take a proper shower. I feel so dirty and uncomfortable. Truly a nightmare. I would never recommend this place to anyone.DariMXN$ 1,044

Myself and my friends stayed at Papa Whale Hotel for the 2nd time, and we had another great experience overall!
*What we loved:
1. Room: The room was awesome – clean, comfortable, and exactly what we needed.
2. Room Service: Almost perfect! The staff were quick and attentive.
3. Breakfast: Fantastic! Myself and friends really enjoyed the variety. Would love to see a few more options next time, like fried chicken, French fries and more.
4. Location: Location is convenient and perfectly fine. It’s a bit of a walk from Ximen MRT Station, but nothing major.
Small note:
On one day the staff forgot to replace our towels, but it was a minor issue and didn’t affect our stay.

The hotel rooms are big and the pool is a great amenity.

Overall, my stay was very satisfying. The hotel's location is excellent, with convenient transportation and a well-developed surrounding area. What impressed me most was the room's view – Taipei 101 was clearly visible from the window, offering different beauty both day and night. Especially when the lights came on at night, the entire city's atmosphere was captivating, giving a relaxing and therapeutic feeling.
The room itself was clean and tidy, with efficient use of space. The bedding was comfortable, and the soundproofing was good, ensuring a restful sleep. The Hollywood King Room had a really big and comfortable bed! We stayed for three nights. The toilet was a TOTO, and the wet/dry separation was a big plus! The hotel's location is super convenient, very close to Ximending Pedestrian Area. The only issue was on the first night, we had no cell signal, which led us to take a wrong turn after exiting the subway. The closest subway exit is the Underground Street - X6, and exit X5 has an escalator. We ended up having to take a taxi. The hotel's name is also hard to spot at night. Location: Super central, just a 5-minute walk straight from Exit 1 of Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station on the Bannan Line. It's right next to Huashan 1914 Creative Park, and getting to Taipei Main Station, Daan District, or Ximending is incredibly quick.
Environment: The room was very clean. Although there was no window to the outside, there were many dehumidifiers in the hallway, so it didn't feel damp at all.
Service: From the front desk staff to the housekeeping team, everyone was very professional and met our various needs with a smile. The ground floor also offered complimentary vintage snacks (biscuits and candies) for guests.
Breakfast: Decent, though not outstanding. There wasn't a huge variety, but it was still filling.
Soundproofing: This was the only downside to my stay. I'm not sure if it was an issue with the walls or the door, but the soundproofing was very poor. While I couldn't hear specific activities from adjacent or opposite rooms, I could clearly hear people walking in the hallway late at night or staff cleaning in the morning. The hotel's location is a bit average; there aren't many shops nearby downstairs, so you have to walk a bit. It's right by a main road, but luckily the soundproofing is quite good.
