🧭 “Eh, Singapore Again?” – A Malaysian’s Love Letter to the Little Red Dot

Let’s be honest lah — every time someone says “Let’s go Singapore,” the first reaction is always a mix of “Wah shiok!” and “Aiyo, the currency pain bro…” 😂
But somehow… we still go. Again and again.

Why? Because Singapore just gets it right. It’s clean, it’s efficient, and got so much to do in such a small space, it feels like someone compressed a whole season of travel content into one long weekend. And you don’t even need to take leave if you plan it right (Friday half-day, balik Sunday malam — power combo).

My last trip was a spontaneous one with two of my closest makan kakis. We went with zero itinerary and ended up discovering a rooftop bar with free views, a Japanese thrift store in Somerset, and ate laksa so sedap I nearly cried.

So this guide isn’t just the typical “go here, take photo, next” — it’s for us Malaysians who want to get the best of Singapore without feeling like we’re being scammed by the conversion rate 💸.
Let’s dive into all the things you can (and should) do in SG, whether it’s your first time or your fifteenth.

🏙️ Top Attractions Worth the Hype (Yes, Even for Malaysians)

You know how some places are overhyped and then you go there and think, "Eh, this only nice for Instagram ah?"
Singapore’s top attractions? Actually worth it.
Here’s my personal breakdown of the must-go spots — not just for photo ops, but for vibes, makan nearby, and those little moments that make you go “wah”.

🌸 Gardens by the Bay – A Walk Inside a Dream

Gardens by the bat during the night with all the lights

This place legit made me feel like I was in Avatar meets Kew Gardens. The Supertree Grove alone is already a vibe — especially at night when the light and sound show plays. But the real magic?

🌿 Cloud Forest Dome: Mist, mountains, and rare plants all packed into a giant glass dome. It’s surreal. Like walking through an alien rainforest.
🌼 Flower Dome: Different seasonal displays — from tulips to cherry blossoms. The aircon is a bonus too 😅
🌃 Evening Light Show (FREE): Come at 7.45PM or 8.45PM, lie on the floor like everyone else, and just… vibe.

Malaysian Tip:

● Skip the dome tickets if you’re on a budget — just walking around the outdoor gardens and watching the show is already worth the trip.

● But if you do go for one dome, choose Cloud Forest. 10/10.

🌆 Marina Bay Sands SkyPark – Sky-High Feels (And Selfies)

A birds eye view of marina bay sands skypark

You’ve seen it. That spaceship building sitting on top of three towers? Yep, that’s MBS. The SkyPark gives you 360° views of Singapore — from the harbour to the skyline to all the little dots below that are actually humans 😂

But here’s the catch:
Entry is SGD28 — and you don’t even get to swim in the infinity pool (that’s for hotel guests only 💸).

💡 Hack:
Instead of paying for the SkyPark, go to Ce La Vi bar on the same floor. Buy one drink (SGD20+), and enjoy the same view with vibes and a drink in hand. Worth it.

💦 Jewel Changi Airport – Yes, You Should Go Even If You're Not Flying

the lush and green interior of changi airport

I once took a Grab straight from the JB checkpoint just to visit Jewel Changi. That’s how cool this place is.

🌀 The Rain Vortex — the world’s tallest indoor waterfall — sits in the middle of a massive glass dome. It’s surrounded by lush indoor gardens, suspended walking nets, and… a Shake Shack.
It doesn’t feel like an airport. It feels like a luxury sci-fi jungle.

📸 Great for:

● IG pics

● Kids (so much space to run)

● Makan (lots of food options, halal too!)

● Cooling down (aircon heaven)

🏖️ Sentosa Island – The Island Escape Just 15 Mins From the City

The beautiful sandy beaches of sentosa island

If KL had something like this, I swear we’d never leave.

Sentosa is like Singapore’s playground — with beaches, theme parks, aquariums, zip lines, and even an upside-down house.

Must-tries:

● 🐠 S.E.A Aquarium – One of the largest in the world. I nearly cried watching manta rays glide past like gentle sea dragons.

● 🎢 SkyHelix – 360° rotating open-air ride. Not for the faint-hearted, but soooo worth it for the views.

● 🏄 Adventure Cove Waterpark – Slides + snorkelling + lazy river = family-friendly fun

Bonus tip: Sentosa’s beach train and trams are free — use them to hop between Palawan, Siloso, and Tanjong Beach. Great for picnic days.

🦁 Singapore Zoo & Night Safari – Animal Encounters You’ll Remember

A family enjoying the night safari looking at a tiger

Look, I’ve been to a lot of zoos (yes, even Zoo Negara 🥲), and Singapore Zoo is just next-level. Spacious, clean, and the animals genuinely look happy.

But the star of the show? Night Safari.
You ride a tram through the dark jungle, spotting nocturnal animals in dim light. Feels like you’re in a David Attenborough doc. Once, a hyena stared straight at me. We had a moment.

💡 Buy combo tickets if you're doing both. Come early to beat the queue — it gets packed!

📊 Quick Recap Table

Attraction Entry Price (MYR) Worth It? My Verdict
Gardens by the Bay Free (outside), RM36–RM70(domes) Yes 🌸 Go at night for the light show. The Cloud Forest = must-see.
Marina Bay Sands SkyPark RM70 Meh 🤷‍♂️ Skip the ticket, go to Ce La Vi for a drink and same view.
Jewel Changi Airport Free (basic access) YES ✨ Don’t skip! Great for food, pics, and vibes.
Sentosa Island Free entry (attractions vary) Yes lah! 🏖️ Feels like a holiday inside a holiday. So much to do!
Singapore Zoo + Night Safari Combo from RM240 Pricey but worth it 🦁 Night Safari is unforgettable. Zoo is world-class.

We’ll kick things off with shopping spots (both boujee and budget-friendly), then go all-in on the food scene — with honest, Malaysian-style breakdowns, halal options, and tips to stretch that precious ringgit.

🛍️ Shopping Without Regret (Or Bankruptcy)

Let’s be real — when the conversion rate is nearly RM3.50 to 1 SGD, you have to be strategic. No more simply "beli dulu, fikir kemudian" okay? 😂

But lucky for us, Singapore has a shopping spot for every type of Malaysian — whether you're a luxury hunter, bargain beast, or thrift queen 👛

🛍️ Orchard Road – The OG Shopping Belt

The outside of a mall in singapore

Orchard Road; The granddaddy of all Singapore shopping streets. If you want branded stuff (or just want to jalan-jalan in aircon with pretty lights), this is the place. Think Ion Orchard, Takashimaya, 313@Somerset, and the list goes on.

💡 Malaysian tip:

● Sales usually happen June (GSS) and December. That’s when you might find items that feel closer to our local prices.

Don’t forget about Don Don Donki for quirky Japanese snacks and skincare!

🧥 Bugis Street – Bargain Hunter’s Playground

The interior of a mall in singapore

This is more Malaysian style — got street fashion, souvenirs, accessories, bags… and best of all, can nego a bit!
(Just don’t expect Pasar Malam prices lah okay 😅)

● Upstairs got clothing shops, downstairs got very Malaysian vibes — cheap food, fruit juices, phone accessories, and more.

● Next door is Bugis Junction, with more mainstream brands and nice cafés.

🛒 Mustafa Centre – 24/7 Madness in Little India

The front of mustafa square

Need perfume at 2AM? Want to buy 3kg of cashew nuts, 2 rice cookers and a Rolex in one trip? Mustafa Centre got you.

This place is chaotic, but also… somehow amazing. You’ll find everything under the sun, and prices are actually more wallet-friendly than anywhere else in SG.

🌙 Open 24 hours — perfect if you can't sleep or just want to lepaking with purpose.

👚 Haji Lane – Hipster Heaven

A tourist taking pictures in haji lane singapore

If you love artsy stuff, vintage clothes, or want to support indie boutiques, Haji Lane is your spot.
Very IG-friendly — murals, colourful buildings, aesthetic cafés. You’ll see people doing fashion shoots here… or just minum kopi sambil posing.

💡 Tip: Try the thrift stores hidden inside the narrow shops. Found a vintage Levi’s jacket here once for under SGD25 🔥

📊 Quick Shopping Guide Table

Area Vibe What to Buy Malaysian Verdict
Orchard Road Lux, aircon, high-end Branded goods, cosmetics, gadgets Window shopping best… unless got sale 💸
Bugis Street Budget, lively, youth Clothes, souvenirs, small gifts Yes, for affordable shopping fun!
Mustafa Centre Crowded, chaotic, cheap EVERYTHING Great for last-minute or bulk buys
Haji Lane Chill, artsy, indie Thrifted fashion, café hopping Worth a walk, especially for the vibes

🍜 Makan Till You Drop – A Malaysian’s Culinary Quest in Singapore

Okay. Now we talk about the real reason we go Singapore:
Makan sampai puas.
I don’t care if you’re a foodie, a picky eater, or just a budget traveller — Singapore’s food scene will seduce you.

And yes… it really does taste different. Even the chicken rice. Don’t fight me on this 🙃

🐔 Chicken Rice Showdown – Tian Tian vs Hawker Chan

A mouthwatering dish of hainanese chicken rice

Ah, the eternal debate.

Tian Tian (Maxwell Food Centre): Juicy, fragrant, long queue… but worth it. Even Anthony Bourdain gave it his thumbs up.

Hawker Chan (Chinatown): Michelin-starred, soy sauce chicken rice. Affordable, fast, tasty.

🥇 My vote: Tian Tian wins on flavour. But if you hate queues, Hawker Chan is still solid.

🦀 Chili Crab – Spicy, Messy, Worth It

A delicious and spicy looking chili crab dish with a side of mantous

Singapore’s iconic dish. Eat it with your hands and don’t wear white.
Best enjoyed at:

Jumbo Seafood (East Coast)

No Signboard Seafood (Geylang)

● Or if you’re broke but still curious… try the chili crab pasta at local food courts. Got that same sweet-spicy kick.

🍜 Other Must-Trys (Malaysian-Approved)

Dish Where to Eat Why You’ll Love It
Laksa Katong Laksa Spicy, creamy, with noodles you slurp with a spoon only 😍
Hokkien Mee Geylang Lor 29 Wet style, smoky wok hei, got lard bits (sorry halal fam 💔)
Satay Lau Pa Sat Satay Street Open-air, night market vibes. Order 20 sticks, no regrets.
Kaya Toast Set Ya Kun Kaya / Toast Box Breakfast of champions: toast + soft-boiled eggs + kopi C

🕌 Halal Makan Recos

I gotchu, halal fam 💯

Spot Area Must-Try
Zam Zam Near Bugis Murtabak (beef or chicken), biryani
Hajah Maimunah Kampong Glam Nasi Padang heaven — sambal goreng, beef rendang
Sofra Turkish Café Beach Road Kebabs, lamb stew, and fresh bread
Tang Tea House Simpang Bedok Dim sum (halal version!) and Chinese-style dishes

Wah, steady lah you — powering through this whole travel guide macam marathon makan trip 😂
Okay jom! Now we jump into Culture, Arts & Instagrammable Spots, and then roll smoothly into Nature Escapes for the zen vibes. Gotta balance out all that eating and shopping with some soul-nourishing (and photo-worthy) experiences too 🧘‍♂️📸

Nice Hotel with Spacious Rooms. Definitely a five star. Had the view of Marina Bay Sands from our 21st floor room. With bathtub Gym is also Great. with Swimming pool Nice to walk along the riverbanks accessible from the backside and with rental bikes just across the river. Great place to jog and ride the bike as well as what me and my son did going to MBS. No Laundry area for those who wants clean clothes going home.

I had an absolutely fantastic stay at the Royal Plaza on Scotts! A huge thank you to Mariz at the front office. She is truly exceptional. She went out of her way to ensure my grandmother's check-in was incredibly smooth and stress-free. Even though the front desk was very busy, Mariz remained so calm, smiley, and highly professional. Her dedication to service is outstanding. I must also commend the sweet staff for their attentiveness. I was so touched by the surprise mini birthday cake—it made my day! (The food at the Carousel buffet was also great!). I enjoyed every bit of my stay and would recommend the Royal Plaza on Scotts without hesitation.

💝 Unforgettable memories and impressions that will stay with us for the rest of our lives! 💝 🎶 Eunice Marasigan welcomed us and surrounded us with such care. You will be in our memory for a long time! Do I need to write that this hotel is a symbol of Singapore? Is it necessary to describe the delight of the view from the observation deck and from the pool? You need to see this with your own eyes, because the photo does not convey even half of the beauty that the eye sees. 💸 It is expensive. 💸 ☺️ Marina Bay Sands is my dream come true. I hope I can come back again. 😇

This is an excellent hotel with a superb location, just a 5-minute walk from the City Hall subway station. The ambiance is fantastic – it feels spacious and elegant, is spotlessly clean, and boasts excellent, well-appointed facilities. The breakfast spread was plentiful, and all services were impeccable. We had an early morning flight and couldn't wait for breakfast to open, so the restaurant thoughtfully prepared a packed breakfast for us early in the morning and left it at the front desk, making it convenient for us to pick up when checking out. Five stars!

First time in Singapore, I compared several hotels online before finally choosing this one. First of all, the hotel's location is excellent; many popular Instagrammable spots are within walking distance. Directly downstairs is Funan Mall, so you don't even need to leave the hotel if you want to shop. The subway station is also very close to the hotel, which is super convenient. The hotel has two pools, and one of them, the bathtub pool, is very photogenic. The rooms aren't very big but are clean and tidy, with complete amenities, including a coffee machine and a fridge. It's truly great value for money.

The room is spacious, and the king-size bed is very wide. The bathroom is also large, clean, and comfortable. The hotel has a great design aesthetic and is conveniently located in the city center, very close to the main commercial district. You can even see Merlion Park from the balcony. The staff are very friendly and helpful. For my first time in Singapore, I definitely chose the right hotel. Book with confidence, the stay was excellent, and I highly recommend it. I hope they continue to maintain this high standard.

Staycation with family, very convenient location, right above City Hall MRT, directly connect to Raffles City Shopping Mall and Fairmont Hotel... quiet, clean and spacious, 2 double bed good for family with 2 kids, stunning balcony view... however, toilet without bidet, and have to go over the bath tub ledge for shower is quite painful for elderly even though sufficient wall handle bars given. Beware of slippery floor because water flows out while showering.

This always has been the hotel we stayed everytime we visited Singapore due to its central location and also comfy big bed in the room. We celebrated our wedding anniversary in the hotel. Early check in was arranged and a complimentary upgrade to family room was also offered. Upon going into our room, we saw the hotel staff prepare a cake and some sweet treats for us in celebrating our anniversary. I realized too that the system inside the room has also been upgraded (eg you can request amenity by telling the hotel AI without the need to call housekeeping again). Overall, we really enjoy our stay in the hotel,l and we will definitely return to the hotel again.

Pros: The hotel is close to the subway, making it very convenient for getting around. The rooms are also quite spacious compared to other hotels. The front desk staff provided good service; they were always helpful and answered all our questions. They even gave me a map, which was a thoughtful touch. Now for the downsides, which I have quite a few: 1. The facilities are extremely dated! I was genuinely shocked to see such an ancient air conditioning switch. The room felt a bit damp and had a strange smell upon entering, especially since the windows couldn't be opened. On the first night, I felt a strange chill after getting into bed, and by the next morning, my throat started to feel sore. To my disbelief, the air conditioning unit was still off – completely untouched! This was quite astonishing and left me feeling very disappointed. Since cancelling wasn't an option, I had no choice but to reluctantly endure the stay. 2. There was no complimentary bottled water provided in the room. The electric kettle was hidden away under a cabinet, and it took us a long time to find it, eventually having to ask the front desk. They also failed to mention that there was a drinking water dispenser in the hallway, which we only discovered much later! 3. Despite staying for several days, the incredibly thin disposable slippers were not replaced daily. I had to call the front desk once to request a fresh pair, but to my dismay, they still didn't proactively replace them the following day. I had to call *again* just to get new slippers!

Staff was friendly when approached. Location is very good near a MRT station and enough restaurants. Breakfast was good and had enough variation but the offerings outside were very tempting. I requested a room with a high view at the stadium and the water. But the pictures on the bookingsite are very old and not valid anymore. There are taller buildings located between the V-Lavender hotel and the stadium now. The City view was not breathtaking but ok. A pity the windowsill was made of marble/stonelike material so not really comfortable to sit. But it still offers a nice place to sit and look outside with a (free) cup of tea of coffee.

Traveling with my parents, I chose this hotel because I felt the loft rooms wouldn't feel too cramped (hotel rooms in Singapore are generally on the smaller side). It was decent for a family of three. The upstairs area was okay; we could fit one or two suitcases and there was a chair. Downstairs, there was no seating other than the bed. The mattress was a bit soft, making it a bit of an effort for the person sleeping inside to get out. Coffee and tea bags were provided. Just a short walk from the hotel's parking area is the Singapore River, surrounded by many dining options (mostly Western cuisine). There were quite a few people exercising and cycling. It's a bit of a walk to the MRT station, but there's a smaller food court about 600 meters away where we had several meals. Overall, the hotel is quite clean and new. However, the air freshener scent in the hallway outside the elevator was quite strong initially, though it improved over the next few days. The lobby scent was fine. Plus, there are several 7-Eleven stores nearby, making it very convenient for buying things. Overall, our stay was quite good, and the housekeeping was very clean.

We could not use the machine for self check-in because their system could not find our booking on trip.com, so a staff member had to manually check in for us. Excellent facilities - they provided lots of trolleys for luggages near the front door/reception area, which I think were quite thoughtful. Our kids used the playground a lot. Would love to use the swimming pool but our room (Studio Queen and Single) was quite small (especially the bathoom) to hang our swim clothes to dry. Coat hangers were provided in the room which could be used to hang swimclothes on to airdry, but with the humidity in Singapore, it would take about 2 days to completely dry. In the middle of our stay, we found a dead cockroach on the bed (first photo) while clearing stuff to prep the room for daily room service/cleaning. We left it there for the cleaner to handle it, but when we came back at night, the dead cockroach was still in the room (and moved to a different spot this time - second photo), so we cleaned it ourselves. Not that we are nitpicking, but since the room was small, we had to organise our things around every nook and cranny of the room, and I found the wall under the table near the floor quite dirty.

Great hotel! The staff was very friendly, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. I had a great night’s sleep and enjoyed a fantastic view by the pool. After checking out, I was allowed to leave my luggage behind and headed into the city. Later, I was even able to use the hotel’s shower facilities, so I could refresh before heading to my next destination! I highly recommend this hotel, especially for its location. My room was so cool, cozy, and functional. Perfect for solo staycations. The location was superb. Just walking distance to bus stops, mrt, and Vivo City. The pool was smaller than expected and the breakfast was a bit subpar. My first breakfast majority of the foods tasted artificial. The second breakfast day was a bit better. Front desk staff were efficient and welcoming. The view from my room was okay. Had a view of the trees and the road but it was too close as I was on the 4th floor. Could not open the window because people may see me as there were people and cars passing through the road.

Good value for money, however, i really did not appreciate the rude attitude of the staff. They wanted to charge me with early check in even though the room was ready. They didn’t want to change the amount of 1000 CNY claiming it’s too little and i had a cleaner come into the room despite having do not disturb sign on the door.Checkout was at noon and from 10:45 til 11:45 i received about 10 calls to the room phone urging me to check out.Otherwise clean hotel and cheap for the location and Singapore standards, but i wouldn’t really be back…

Perfect for business travelers — smart, modern, and well located. Stayed four nights for a work trip and really liked YOTEL Orchard Road. I had a fantastic stay at Five/6 Hotel Splendour in Singapore! The hotel is a true gem for budget travelers, offering incredible value for money. The room was spotlessly clean, spacious, and the air conditioning was top-notch, keeping me cool and comfortable throughout my stay. The free mini bar with complimentary drinks and snacks was a delightful bonus, adding a touch of luxury to the experience. Check-in and check-out were seamless, and the lobby staff provided impeccable service, friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist with a smile. The best thing about the hotel is location. It’s very near to tourist point such as Chinatown, Clarke quay, Merlion park and so on. In front of the hotel, there are the mrt and the Clarke quay Central. Very convenient for going everywhere in Sg and find something to eat for bf and dinner. The downside: The shower room and toilet is separate and there is only the curtain between shower zone and sleeping zone. Singapore may be small, but they really nailed the “city in a garden” vibe. When you need to detox from the malls and the MRT crowds, these spots will reset your brain and your legs 💆‍♀️🌿

🚲 East Coast Park – Cycling & Chill by the Sea

A beautiful sunset by the beaches of Singapore

Long stretch of park along the beach. Perfect for:

● Renting a bike or rollerblades

● Picnic under coconut trees

● Sunset by the water

You’ll see joggers, uncles fishing, families BBQ-ing — super Malaysian-feeling actually.

💡 Tip: Rent bikes from GoCycling and go all the way to Marina Barrage for killer views of the skyline.

🌲 MacRitchie Reservoir & Treetop Walk – Jungle Adventure in the City

A view of Macritchie Reservoir

Want to feel like you’re in Sabah for a few hours? This is it.

● 11km hiking loop (but you can do shorter trails)

● Suspension bridge treetop walk = nature + thrill

● Monkeys everywhere. Don’t bring food. Don’t make eye contact 😂

💡 Tip: Wear real shoes, bring water, and go early in the morning.

🌿 Singapore Botanic Gardens – Free, Chill, Beautiful

Some sceneries of hotels

A UNESCO World Heritage Site — and entry is FREE (almost).
Massive garden with lakes, swans, gazebos, and the National Orchid Garden (small fee if you go inside).

Perfect for:

● Lazy morning strolls

● Couple photoshoots

● Reading a book on a bench like a peaceful auntie

💡 Tip: Got a beautiful mini waterfall spot if you explore deeper. Great for photos!

Okay jom! Now we jump into Culture, Arts & Instagrammable Spots, and then roll smoothly into Nature Escapes for the zen vibes. Gotta balance out all that eating and shopping with some soul-nourishing (and photo-worthy) experiences too 🧘‍♂️📸
