The windows in the room are made up of small pieces, the design is a bit strange, there is no view at all, and there is insufficient daylight. The water pipe switch of the toilet wash basin is very inconvenient, and water will flow from the cracks to the ground after washing hands. The electric induction toilet toilet seat is a bit annoying. Shower room is worthy of praise, the shower is very comfortable and the bed is very comfortable. Overall, such a package is still far away from a 5-star hotel. Maybe my expectations are too high!

Sofitel was an amazing place! We really enjoyed the welcome service, the location was decently convenient, the hotel was clean, and it was close enough to amenities and restaurants. I do wish it looked more pretty on the outside, inside, and there was a more grand lobby. The lobby area was okay, and it doesn’t feel too premium.

The hotel is still as good as before. The facilities are very complete and it is a relatively new hotel in the area. The breakfast is also very good. I will choose to stay here next time.

My sister and I just finished visiting my son in Toronto and we decided to visit Montreal. We booked 2 rooms. We had a terrible experience at Royal York Fairmont . We got kicked out from the lobby lounge by Karen over there for voicing our concern for the service being slow. For we had absolutely low expectations for QE. When we checked in there were 3 staff at the counter. 2 of them were engaged in their friendly conversation and one of them stepped up to help us. I thought that was totally unprofessional for the staff chatting among themselves in front of guests. Rooms are basic and clean. The location is central. The staff has showed no warmth and attention. In Asia a hotel of this level will greet u warmly and the better one will remember your name. Services at restaurants in Montreal are top notch. We visited some with long history and the staff took pride to explain to us the history. It is a shame Fairmont has some of best historic buildings in Canada and the staff showed no interest to highlight the history of the buildings. I travelled a lot for me to earn a diamond member here. I will avoid staying at Fairmont and any of their member hotels from now on.

It's a very high-end and exquisite hotel. Apart from the rain shower water not heating up quickly, the water pressure not being high enough, and the hairdryer not getting hot, everything else was fine.

Hotel Bonaventure efor the price, there isn’t much to complain about. The biggest advantage is definitely the location. The hotel is directly connected to a shopping mall and the Montreal underground city, which makes getting around extremely convenient—especially in winter. You can access shops, food courts, and public transit without ever needing to go outside, which is a huge plus. Overall, it’s a practical choice with an excellent location. If convenience is a priority and you’re looking for reasonable value rather than luxury, this hotel does the job well.

This hotel is very cost-effective among the many old hotels in MTL. The design is relatively modern, and it should be relatively new, with a more log style. The front desk attitude is also very good. The location is quite good, and it is a 10-minute walk to the old port. One thing that I think is very good is that the light-shielding effect is very good, even in the morning it will not be too bright to wake people up

Service at concierge was excellent. This lady at the breakfast, her name Mayra, should change her job. No customer care at all. She gave us attitude when we checked in to access the breakfast room. In fact we did not go back for the rest of the 3 days. Also, They missed a day to clean out room and to change our towels due to new year eve rush. Lastly, The 5-10 minutes waiting for an elevator every time it is something they need to resolve. Location is excellent but they should improve in the restorations and modernization of the floors and rooms. Wall paper coming off, in the corridors, paint peeling off in the shower. It looks very sloppy. For CAD$350 per night I would have aspected something better.

We were very fortunate and truly grateful to be checked in early by the kind gentleman working in the reception. Hotel is localed nearby to the various attractions within walking distance from the hotel. The hotel is within 10-15 minutes from the main train station and highly recommended to stay for ease of exploring the various attractions and breakfast was included.

In town for a JFL show. Location was very convenient and the rom was immaculate. Resto on ground floor is very nice for a convenient meal of quick snack after travel and check-in. Staff are very pleasant and professional and were quick to accomodate our request for a room with a bathtub. My wife likes to soak after the travel part.. had a pleasant special effects surprise at bedtime when the streetlights below penetrated above the curtain/drape rod and produced a bit of a light show on the ceiling. Not enough to interfere with sleep and just right as a night light for the mid night trips to the washroom. All in all very nice hotel in a very convenient downtown location at a reasonable price

There is an attached restaurant on the first floor of the hotel, which provides a continental breakfast. It costs 11 knives per person (approximately). Then you can choose your own food with milk (cold), morning cereals, bagels, bacon, sausages, yogurt and fruit. You can also order your own breakfast. Good location, 5 minutes walk from Chinatown subway station, 8 minutes walk from Laogang. No extra bed available. There is generation parking service.

We stayed as a family of four (two younger children). The location was very good for us, because the hotel was close to the science museum and Chinatown, which was handy because of most places being closed on Christmas. Additionally, the relevant bus lines and subway station was pretty close by, so travelling without a car or relying on Uber was simple. The swimming pool, hot tub, and sauna were good, except the pool only had one depth (1.15 meters). So little kids who aren't proficient swimmers would need an adult to be with them in the pool. Our only real gripe was that there were no toiletries (bar soap, lotion, etc.) in the bathroom when we first arrived, but that was quickly remedied with a call to the front desk. Overall, a decent value for the convenient location and the modern room.

Great hotel. Staff is friendly, rooms are comfortable. The location is central, just be mindful of the junkies outside. Not all will agree but there are too many pot heads in the smoking area that give this skunk smell outside. And I didn't appreciate that we couldn't access the balcony, apparently to 'protect' residents from the noise(??). Now this is weird, allowing ***** everywhere but not travellers chatting on balconies. Then do not advertise the balconies maybe?

The hotel's location is excellent. Many attractions in the old town are within walking distance, and for those further away, there's a bus stop right outside with the 747 route. However, there's no way to heat water in the room, not even a coffee maker, and the front desk doesn't provide one. The pot of coffee offered by reception each morning is gone before 10 AM. We arrived around 8 AM, and the front desk insisted we couldn't check in until after 4 PM, not even a minute sooner.

Montreal Fare Zones Explained

Place d'Armes

Montreal uses a zone-based fare system, which means ticket prices depend on the areas you travel to. For most visitors staying within the city centre and main tourist districts, a Zone A fare is usually sufficient. OPUS in Digital Form (Expected Full Launch in 2026)

Source: MTL Blog

The OPUS system in Montreal is evolving from a physical smart card into a fully digital transit payment solution. The new digital OPUS initiative is designed to allow passengers to store and use their transit passes directly on smartphones or other compatible devices, reducing the need to carry a physical card.

Once fully launched, expected in 2026, the digital OPUS system will enable users to tap in and out using mobile devices at Metro gates, buses, REM stations, and other participating transit services across the Montreal region. This development is part of a broader effort to modernise public transport payments and improve convenience for daily commuters and visitors.

The transition to a digital system is expected to maintain the same fare structure and zone-based rules while offering greater flexibility. Users will be able to purchase, reload, and manage their transit passes through official mobile applications, making travel more seamless and accessible. For Malaysian travellers, this means future visits to Montreal may no longer require purchasing a physical OPUS Card. Instead, public transport access could be managed entirely through a smartphone, provided the system supports international payment methods and compatible devices.

Overall, the digital OPUS rollout represents a significant step toward a more integrated, cashless, and user-friendly public transport experience in Montreal.
