Good for travellers who want a cheap place to stay with facilities for cooking. No privacy at all - there aren't even curtains on the individual beds.

Very nice hostel. The check in was a bit of an issue despite paying on trip.com they stated I had a balance due because I never made a payment and asked me to due so. I showed them the receipt from trip.com and all was well. They do require you to scan a QR code to send a text on WhatsApp to get all the information for your room. My phone was on 5% upon arrival this isn’t convenient. There are only two toilets on the floor with several rooms. The facilities are very clean. However there was hair left in my blanket I was given. Very cold in the room and if you’re near the street you hear everything. Overall great for an overnight stay but not more than 2 days

Second time I've stayed here and I'm sorry but I won't be going back. Can't fault the location, being near a cable car line and two BART subway stations, but (sigh) the private room we had here was a dingy, over priced hole. Staff on reception were also noticeably uninterested in our welfare. There was a nice reception lady who helped me with a tour booking. But the guys who booked us in, and booked us out, couldn't have been less interested. Put it like this: had the guy who booked us out asked, 'Hi, how was your stay ? How did you find your room?' (and he didn't ask this - or make any other comment) I would have replied, 'our flight to SF took 11 hours, and we then had to endure over two hours getting through US border security, while jetlagged, then a 30 minute ride on BART, then walked through the Tenderloin in the dark to get to the hostel. After all that it might have nice for your reception staff to at least ask, out of courtesy, how was our journey? Had we travelled far? Etc etc. The usual welcoming small talk. But no, this guy just wanted our IDs and my payment. No hello and welcome. Then there was the room with the bunkbed, the inward facing window and the faint but distinct odour of urine. Walls painted a ghastly shade of green. No air conditioning (when temps were 70-80F) and a small fan that didn't work from the start. The only window faced another window so you had to keep the curtains closed for privacy, which added to the dingy feeling. And for all this I paid over $1100 for seven nights. I know SF is expensive but I'd call that over priced.' Anyway, as I said, the guy who checked us out didn't ask how our stay was and so I didn't tell him any of this. Which is why I'm writing it here. I'm not expecting reception staff to form lasting relationships with customers. There's a high churn rate of faces here, as there are at most hotels and hostels. But I do expect 'hello' 'goodbye' and a room that doesn't smell of urine.

This was honestly the best value we found when looking for accommodations. Our party of three purchased a 4 bunk bed room with balcony facing Lombard street with our own bathroom. Compared to everything in the area, we paid way less. You get free parking, which is limited, but we got in late on a Saturday night and there were at least four spots to park in. Do keep in mind that bigger suvs will be harder to park, we parked a Mazda cx-5 with no issue. The free breakfast is limited, as it says online, just like cereal and oatmeal, but there are places with great breakfast options within a 5 minute walk for under $10. It’s super close to multiple bus lines which was so convenient. The only “complaint” would be that the windows for the balcony are very thin or not double paned so the road noise is relatively loud, but we all sleep with some type of headphones and it wasn’t an issue with sleeping at all, but that may bother some people. Would absolutely stay here again

I really wasn't sure how much I'd like my stay at this place, but overall it was a great experience. For reference, I stayed in the Janice Joplin room (Private bedroom with Private bathroom) The Good - Convenient - Within a 5 min walk to bus lines to get you to BART station. - Clean - No bugs, no bad smells, no mold. - Affordable - You really can't beat the price when most hotels are going for 200 a night that are a 5 minute walk away. - Neighborhood - Keep in mind this is San Fran, so while not ”clean” I never felt threatened or in danger nor was I ever bothered by the homeless folks around the area. Lots of food options, even late at night. - The Building - Really cool set up, you can literally spend an hour or two in the halls learning about the music history there. Really nice to have when the cleaning team is still in your room. There is a live rehearsal studio in the building so you can sometimes hear them playing. Very colorful and chill. - The Staff - Everyone that I interacted with was friendly. The cleaning crew was friendly and flexible to my needs and came back later when I asked. I did not have any issues with items or money I left out disappearing. Check In and Out - You can do it online to expedite the process! Makes it really smooth going in and out. The bad - The Shower - In my room, the shower was very small. Elbows out and I was hitting a wall in any direction. Not a huge deal, but it just means you aren't in it for long. - No Fan - I knew going into the stay that A/C isn't really used and is building controlled, but it would've been nice if there was a ceiling fan or some other option. Windows were able to be left open which was nice! - Noise - The ONLY complaint I have about noise is the shared bathroom that was next to mine. I could hear EVERYTHING happening in that bathroom, at the beginning I thought they were actually in my bathroom. There was some music during the day (you're in a music themed hotel so expect it), but everything was super quiet in the halls at night. No elevator - At least I didn't find one. And it's a looong ways up to the 200 level. The gentlemen at the front desk did help me take my bag up the second flight of stairs, but it's a haul with your stuff. Overall - I would definitely recommend a stay here in a Private Room. I can't attest to the shared space rooms, but it was quiet, affordable, and clean during my stay. If I come back to San Fran I would gladly stay here again.

Orange Village Hostel is all around a good hostel which offers the basic amenities one would expect. They have a kitchen which is decently equipped, a washing room with 4 washing machines and 4 dryers (coin operated), and a lounge area. personally I did not feel that the hostel was a ”hangout” area, but more of a place to rest. The rooms are clean and come with cages under the beds which can be locked with a padlock, very convenient. There are no private bathrooms, only shared bathrooms and showers in the hallways. The hostel is situated in the area of downtown San Francisco which is prone to homelessness, but I did not experience this as an issue at all. It is close to many popular tourist spots. All in all this is a good and affordable place to sleep and recover after exploring the city of San Francisco.

I used to love this place. I unfortunately had a female traveler who said she's going to make sure she keeps the riff out. So she thought I was riff raff and complained to the front desk manager about me. San Francisco is a very difficult city rn. You have to look a bit homeless because you don't want to get ripped off or have things stolen. Today, I got an email that I'm not a good fit for the hostel. I'm crying in a bathroom. Because I don't want to hear the European travelers hearing me cry. On a good note they allowed me to extend one day more than I should of. They are very nice people. But the you don't fit in here comment hurt my heart
