My wife and I enjoyed a 17 day Arctic journey in the summer of 2022. My only regret is that our journey around Iceland included only a one night stay at Hotel Kea. Hotel Kea is a short drive (about 10 minutes) from the Akureyri Airport. The hotel has free parking spaces available right next to the hotel as well as paid street parking. We were able to park in one of the free spaces when we arrived. Check in went very smoothly and the staff was very friendly and helpful in providing us information about the area. Our suite (Room 504!) was spacious with a comfortable bedroom that included a desk, closets and flat panel television. Plenty of outlets were provided for charging devices. There was also a large living/sitting room with comfortable seating, another flat panel television, coffee service and lovely wall art. Off of the living/sitting room was a balcony with a couple of chairs and a great view of Akureyri city center. In fact the large windows throughout the suite provided great views. As with all of the suite, the bathroom was spotlessly clean with complimentary toiletries. Robes and slippers were also provided for use. Hotel Kea has an extensive bar as well as a restaurant; our stay included breakfast which was served in the on-site restaurant. The breakfast offerings included a variety of baked goods, fruit, breakfast meats, and other typical Icelandic breakfast buffet options. Hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Akureryi and is a convenient walk to cafes, shopping, the waterfront and cultural sites. It is located next to the Akureyrarkirkja the iconic Lutheran Church. Hotel Kea is a perfect “home base” if your journey through Iceland takes you to Akureyri.

We stayed in the cottages which were super private and cute. Jacuzzi but too cold to use. Finding the cottages was difficult as the directions given was not clear but the lady in the front was super nice to drive and escort us to the cottages as it is away from the main hotel. One negatives we had was the place had way too many flies. I spent the night trying to kill flies as I can hear them flying around me. Def great for groups of people. There were 3 of us and we each had our own private decent size rooms. Full kitchen and living room but due to the flies we did not hang out there much. Oh and it took forever to figure out how to lock the doors,...you have to bring the handle up to lock with the key. Was finally able to see the Northern Lights here probably too b/c it was super dark away from the city. This place is 30 mins away from the beer bath and this is why we stayed here. Just a few mins drive away from Akureyri city. Overall I would stay here again with groups of friends due to the size and location of the place. Hopefully by then they would fix the fly problems.

Last time I was, there was before the pandemic, and it was a five star for me. I liked the view of the fjord and I like the location for stores around the area and when I wanted to go swimming, it was right across the street. On top of all that the people were really nice, and the food was fabulous! It has since been sold to a different company, so I do have no idea how it is right now! It is now 2023. , I was not allowed to change the date, so this might be a moot point.. I was not there in 2022, so I don’t know how to express on that little rectangle that I was there in 2018/2019.

K16 located in town center, parking is free for guest! Room is spacious, you can enjoy cooking in the room. There are lots of supermarket nearby and they open until 8pm. Worth to stay here

Just spent 2 nights here Very conveniently situated just 5 min walk from town centre, allbeit up a sharp hill The room was enormous, the bed very comfortable (except the pillows, come on what was it with those pillows? I would have had more support putting a sock in a shirt. Buy some proper pillows!!!!!) The bathroom - with a jet bath and a shower - was bigger than some rooms we've stayed in. There was even a door to a balcony from the bathroom. Building plenty warm enough but not double glazed so windows all condensed in morning. But.... Whatever happened to customer service? When we arrived, shortly after check in time, we rang bell. Eventually this rough looking bloke opened the door - looked like he had just got up. Before we could say anything, or even introduce ourselves, the sum total of what was said by him was a gruff ”Your room is straight on at the top of the stairs.” and with that he disappeared back into the rear of the house. No explanation about anything eg parking, or fuss we want breakfast, or WiFi, or that there was a fridge available (didn't see that until the morning we left) Had to email to get WiFi code - though later saw that it was on the tiniest slip of paper in the room. Tea and coffee available on the landing outside of room. No servicing /washing of cups Nobody around on departure. So, no ”hospitality” throughout the whole stay.
