This was our 5th visit to South Beach, our previous visit was 6 months prior and we noticed a big difference. A few main points: - you used to receive a welcome drink which was a lovely touch. This has now stopped - at breakfast, tea and coffee used to be served to you. This has now stopped you have to help yourself - the rooms and bar area are good, fresh and funky, but the corridors are looking really tired and need a refresh. Stained/ old carpets, tired/grubby paintwork. - pool area is looking really tired and outdated. Sunbeds are awful, crappy plastic beds, many damaged, all sun bleached. These need changing. - decking area around the pool getting damaged, uneven. Not well maintained. - Gardens and main pool area not well kept, lots of seeds/ leaves from palm trees all over the floor and not cleared in the 6 days I was there - waiter/waitress service really poor. We used to get pool waiter service, even when you sat up in the bar area you would.be served. Not this time. - had contacted the hotel ahead of time asking for a ground floor room to which I had a confirmation from them via email. Arrived and they told me this now wouldn't be possible as they are full. On the positive, hotel is in a fabulous location for the beach. Alot of the staff have been there for years, are really friendly and recognise you which is great. Breakfast is fantastic and generally it has a really modern/ funky vibe. It just needs a little refresh and tidying up. Also, lunch/dinner at the hotel isnt great, much better options on the broadwalk if you don't want to walk to town. I will be visiting again in June 2024 as I love the location and hotel options on the beach are limited in Alvor.
