Tropical City Motor Inn

Super friendly and extremely helpful they were very kind even organs car park so I could get my child out in his wheelchair without getting wet in the pouring rain. Very comfortable beds and pillows and extremely clean. It was lovely to have such friendly people who checked in with us if we needed anything else

Well, what can we say? We were pleasantly surprised with our stay. Such a friendly manager and so helpful. Clean, comfortable room, nice hot shower, soft towels, clean linen, tea coffee, complimentary milk and water supplied. Tasty meal, I had Thai food and hubby had fish & chips (the fish portion was huge) The meals were cheerfully delivered to our room or you could dine in the very comfortable restaurant. A very comfortable stay after a long day. Highly recommend.

Will not go back ever even if I was offered a free room. Booked for 1 week first day I was welcomed by a rough grumpy man. No greetings or manners. During no my stay, the owners or managers keep yelling at each others and fighting so I kept to myself. But their private matter should stay private. One Asian guy guessing *manager* looked lost and couldn’t speak English. The room was filthy, carpet was stained and stunk, fridge stunk and had mould, the fans had dust and were sticky and on top of that the fire alarm was disconnected. Tiny tv and internet barely working no wonder why it’s free. As for the food we didn’t like it’s taste like frozen, bread stale and fish taste like old, hubby gravy tasted like old and goeyy. Went to the Asian restaurant next door thais, food was aweful and didn’t taste Asian at all and I’ve been to Thailand several times. Owner or manager arrogant and doesn’t speak English very well so lost it while the other guy started yelling for no reason. Very funny place, kind of a human circus so we left earlier and stayed some there else. Didn’t get a refund but at least we were away from this disgusting place. Should’ve read other reviews before booking.

We stopped at this place by chance as we couldn't find any accommodation in Townsville, so had to do a night run into Ayr. It's a motor inn, clean and tidy. Mark, the owner, and bar tender!, is such a nice bloke - and an old Aussie through and through! Give him a short moment to warm up and he's an excellent host. The cherry on top was the Thai Food they serve. I am a Thai Food Fenatic, and their chicken Cashew was as good as I've tasted in Melbourne and Thailand for that matter. Apparently, the chef is Thai by heritage - which makes sense. So if you want a stopover on your roadtrip through Ayr, maybe bypass Townsville and head to Tropical City, Ayr, instead.
