This is the second time we stayed in this hotel. I might stay here again, but I wouldn't necessarily say I'd be happy about it. On the plus side, it's easy to get to from I-80/580 and Berkeley/Oakland are pretty accessible from here. It's clean and well-equipped. The beds are comfortable. On the minus side, the rooms are pretty small, and there's nothing included with the basic price. Outside parking is $25 extra in an area where theft from parked cars is pretty high. If you want breakfast before leaving, prepare to shell out $28 to sit down (presumably before taxes), or $20 for the buffet. I'm glad I don't live here because the prices and crime are out of sight.

2nd stay at this hotel. Super convenient location. Clean room, comfortable. Haven't been able to take advantage of any of the amenities like pool, whirlpool, gym, or dining. Free parking is a big plus and why I chose this place over others. Wonderful staff. Highly recommend

Lovely quaint hotel that feels like it has some history. The renovations are modern with a comfy bed, pristine sheets and plush towels. The upgrade did a good job of keeping to original aesthetics and respecting the classic building. The location is a minute walk to Union Square and next to other bigger chain hotels. The staff were all very friendly especially the check-in with Vivian! Her friendly welcome and 5 star customer service after a long flight in was greatly appreciated! Comes with coffee and pastries in the morning in the lobby area before you start your day exploring the city. Will stay here again upon my return to SF.

I traveled to the Bay Area for a memorial service. I had my 90 year old, disabled father in tow. After the long drive, my dad had great difficulty getting out of the car and walking. The friendly and helpful staff was right there to help me and even loaned us a wheelchair for the weekend. We got a suite on the 5th floor. Although it was not ADA accessible, it did have a walk-in shower and wide doorways. There was a nice balcony with a great view of the bay. The bedroom and living room had separate air controls (which was wonderful as I run hot and dad runs cold). There is a full, 6-person conference table in the suite! My cousins brought dinner over and we had a family dinner right in our room! We also hosted family and friends in the very comfortable downstairs bistro area for drinks and conversation. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the food was great!

OOhclaraLocated in the center of Berkeley with spacious room offering all new amenities for a complete kitchen, dining space and well decorated bedroom with high quality bedding linens. Excellent breakfast is another plus. I would definitely go back to this hotel!
PPengguna TetamuJust stayed for 3 nights with kids, and also had a friend stay for 2 nights. Furniture is pretty rough, and rooms do not include fridges or microwaves. Makes it challenging to stay with kids. Also had to take out my own garbage 3 times. Furniture is pretty beat up as well, but beds were relatively comfy. Breakfast was fine. Essentially, the place looks like an older college dorm, and while the pool is indeed historic, the procedure for getting in, and the lots of different misc fees ($4 for bathing cap, $29 for parking, etc.) should really be bundled in to the total fee. Not letting guests swim until 2pm is kind of weird, and the place just isn't really super family friendly, even for older kids (i.e. 6.5 and 8.5), although they did like exploring the place. I'm open to coming back or even potentially joining as a member, but I think they really need to work on making the rooms more modern if they want to attract any business travel or real repeat business from serious travelers. - Getting a plate to put some pizza on was tricky, couldn't tell if plates were clean or not - Getting forks from front desk was tricky, there were not sure if they had any - Reserve one lane of the pool or perhaps even the shallow end for kids if there are kids staying, give me a break. 2 stars for the room, 4 stars for the building and the concept and what they're trying to do. I get what they're going for, but they need to work on execution.
PPengguna TetamuThe property i manage had damage as a result of the Atmospheric river on last Tuesday and a water pipe was broken by a fallen tree. Despite my best efforts the damage had still not been fixed on Sunday and a tenant asked if they could be put up at a hotel. I gave them two choices one of which was Holiday Inn. The tenant called the one on University Avenue in Berkeley and was told that there was a three day stay minimum. They were also quoted a rate 0f $209 a night. When I called I was told $169 a night and $159 a night with AAA discount and no minimums. I gave the girl my credit card and she swiped it and it was approved. All she told me to do was to give the tenants my AAA card number so I could get the discount when they checked in. My tenants went to the hotel and were told that there was no reservation either under their name or mine. I gave them the confirmation number given me by the girl who answered the phone. They found the reservation. Then they were told that they would have to give them their credit card so they could run it and pay for the reservation in advance of checking out ”just in case.” They were told if they wanted to use my credit card I would have to come down there that night, not the next morning, and have him swipe my card and if I did not come, he was going to kick the tenants out. Thus, I had to get out of bed at 10:30 at night and go to Berkeley. When I get there he tells me that he is going to charge my card that night for the two night stay. I told him I had already been charged and he said that he had canceled the charge because I did not accompany the tenants at checkin. Neither of us were told that I had to accompany them and being a business traveler I know that not to be true. When he gave me the receipt, he had changed the terms because I got new terms when he canceled the previous reservation and they had had an increase in demand. (The parking lot was only half full). When I asked for a copy of the receipt, which I was entitled too since he was charging me to check out before I even checked in, he refused to give it to me, telling me to ”take a picture.” I will never use this hotel again.
PPengguna TetamuI've stayed at a lot of budget hotels in my day, so I'm used to being ignored, but I was pleasantly surprised at the service here. The manager saw we had small children and went out of his way to move us to a bigger room at no charge. He even offered to help with our luggage, which was a first! Cleaning staff were similarly kind and friendly. It is still a budget hotel, so don't expect the Ritz, but the rooms are clean and have been updated/painted recently, the AC and wifi work great, and it's a safe and convenient location. Plus you can't beat the price. I've never written a hotel review before, but I genuinely want this place to succeed. Good luck guys, and thanks for the great stay!
PPengguna TetamuThe location of the hotel is in the downtown of Berkeley with lots of restaurants and supermarket (Target) around. Bart and buses are adjacent to the hotel. The room is spacious and comfortable. The bed, pillows and blankets are good and warm. The bath amenities are available but you have to squeeze hardly to get out the lotion. The road near to the hotel is under repair, the workers start working quite early in the morning at 7am, thus it really affected us as we didn’t wish to wake up so early. Homeless people are scattered around the hotel therefore you have to exercise care when going in and out of the hotel.
PPengguna TetamuStayed here for one night. I guess the property is in okay shape and the room was okay in terms of cleanliness. There were many hairs in my bed, though it did appear the sheets were changed, so that is at least good. The front desk staff wasn't very welcoming. The room itself is in okay shape. it appears to be recently remodeled and I really had no complaints about the room.
