HOTEL AMBASSADOR BERN An ideal mix of good location, excellent staff & facilities We chose Hotel Ambassador primarily because it offered free parking service as we were travelling on rent-a-car and didn't have much idea about parking houses in Bern But the hotel turned out to be much better than our expectations. POSITIVES (+) The location is brilliant especially if you're new to the city. Close proximity to the tramp stop and ideally located in a neat, clean neighborhood. (+) I got a message from the hotel one day in advance summarizing all details of the stay and the city. Special thanks to Dominika Motykova who sent this message which really helped me book my free tramp tickets and get ready for the hotel stay (+) The staff and service are very good. Smooth check-in and check-out experience (+) I got a two bedroom option as we were a family of 2 adults and 2 children. This was really awesome as kids were independent and loving their own room (+) Views from the room especially with the barn and cattle side is breathtaking. Highly recommended to go for this view instead of city / old town view (+) Abel at the bar was very friendly and gentle during service hours in the evening. He chit chatted about our country, stay and gave advice on the tourist attractions. NEGATIVES (-) The hotel is slightly outdated in terms of infrastructure with old styled keys for opening doors, slightly old furniture & upholstery. The walls and carpeting inside the hotel is 90s styled. (-) The most painful aspect I experienced was the bed which was of poor quality with the mattress & pillows being really off. I was sleepless on both nights that I stayed here. (-) The pool is not heated and has limited space for people with only 4-5 beds and chairs (-) Access from basement parking to the main hotel is through a ringer which new comers may not know. No clear signage or messaging is written anywhere on how to go inside from the basement. I had to literally drag all the luggage by myself to the lobby for elevator access Overall, based on service / location / neighborhood, the place is Highly Recommended Rating: 8 / 10

The location of the hotel is located about 3-4 tram stops from the Bern station. There weren’t many amenities located in the vicinity of the hotel and they are mainly found 1-2 tram stops away. The good thing is that the city provides hotel guests with free tram transportation so you should ask the front desk about it. The room size was decent but not very big. The air conditioning did not seem to work very well and we had to open the window in winter to cool down the room. However, the minibar was complimentary and they provided apple juice, still water, sparkling water and beer (2 bottles each). The experience was generally consistent with that of a 4 star hotel and the price.

I must say, my recent stay at this establishment was tainted by the presence of an employee who seemed determined to mar an otherwise passable experience. Allow me to recount the unfortunate encounter with this particular member of the hotel staff, whose ineptitude and condescension left much to be desired. My ordeal began with the seemingly standard check-in time of 3pm. However, I was forced to entrust my luggage to their ”luggage room” due to this policy. Upon my return for check-in, I made the grievous error of inquiring about my luggage. The receptionist who had taken over displayed an insufferable attitude, insisting that I retrieve my own bags, as if I had been suddenly promoted to the hotel's porter. To make matters worse, I was informed that the air conditioning throughout the entire hotel was non-operational. This announcement was delivered in a manner befitting a stern warden, devoid of any apology or offer of compensation for this inconvenience. It was only after I mustered the audacity to request compensation that she begrudgingly muttered, ”I can offer you free parking,” as if this paltry gesture should suffice. Regrettably, this 'compensation' left much to be desired. When I inquired about the parking fee, which, unsurprisingly, was exorbitant at 18 CHF, I could barely contain my astonishment. At this juncture, the receptionist, dripping with condescension, remarked, ”Yeah, this is Switzerland here,” insinuating that I, a mere Belgian, should be grateful for their overpriced parking, as if it were some sort of privilege. It is worth noting that it is the guests who fund her livelihood, and a modicum of respect should be obligatory. As if this litany of incompetence wasn't enough, when I discovered that my EU plug was incompatible with Swiss electrical outlets, I had no choice but to return to the reception desk. Once again, the indifferent receptionist displayed a complete lack of interest in my predicament. She dismissively informed me that no adapters were available, and the sole adapter they possessed had already been claimed by another guest. Her apathy and unprofessional demeanor were profoundly disheartening. In conclusion, it is my sincere belief that this receptionist's woeful performance reflects poorly on the hotel's overall reputation. She embodies rudeness and ineptitude to such an extent that it is clear she is profoundly unsuited for a career in hospitality. I implore her employers to reconsider her place within the industry; perhaps a career outside of customer interaction, such as working in a factory, would better suit her temperament and capabilities. On a somewhat brighter note, I feel compelled to acknowledge that the other five members of the hotel staff I encountered were, without exception, lovely, warm, and highly professional individuals. It is a tremendous shame that this particular receptionist stood in stark contrast to her colleagues, as she was the sole staff member who appeared to be disinterest

This hotel is a short bus ride from the main train station. The rooms are modern & ours was large. No one & no instructions on how to turn on the lights or operate the roll down shutters or anything else in the room. It was frustrating. There are large patio doors (no patio though) that open with electric roll down shutters. But our room faced busy train tracks & so leaving those doors open meant hearing VERY frequent train traffic late into the night & then starting again in the early morning. It wasn’t pleasant. Another thing to know about this hotel is the A/C is controlled & is central to the ENTIRE hotel and it’s not cool in the rooms🥵. There is NO adjusting it in your room or for your room 🥵. It is just what it is. We were advised to open our patio doors to get more air🤪. That would work if it’s cool outside AND there were not the train traffic! There is no ventilation fan in the bathroom and that just adds humidity to the room with no way to vent it. So this hotel is modern meets we don’t trust you. We would not stay here again & from now on even if the hotel says there is a/c we will have to ask the further question about who controls it & the temp.

The hotel is three (3) to four (4) kilometers away from the Old Town of Bern and less than one (1) kilometer away from the New Town of Bern. The breakfast buffet has a great selection of food at a very reasonable price. We saved a lot by adding it on our trip considering that a decent meal on nearby restaurants costs at least 30 Francs. The rooms are just right when it comes to their size. There is no heater, hair dryer, toothpaste and toothbrush though, only the basic toiletries are provided. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Bern.

Super Unterkunft. Von A-Z hat alles geklappt. Eine tolle Unterkunft mit Kindern. Am Abend war es ab 22.00 uhr sehr ruhig im Hof und auch mit offenen Fenstern lässt es sich so gut schlafen. Das Frühstück war zum Geniessen in einem schönen Saal. Allgemein ist diese Jugendherberge wunderschön eingerichtet. Das Museum ist top und mit Kindern sehr gut machbar. Es gibt ein Rätselspass, basteln, Truhen öffnen, Schatzkisten und vieles mehr. Es lohnt sich dieses Museum zu besuchen. Diese Unterkunft ist nur zum Empfehlen

Switzerland such an amazing country with so lovely ppl, but this hotel was the worst! Staff at the reception was extremely not professional in Ibis and Novotel (both). Whenever u ask any assistance they will never even try to help or assist you, the hosting is the worse. The girl at the reception from Novotel just careless, she will look at you as you have to deal with ur problems. No Adapter to even charge the phone they can’t provide. We stayed for more than 7 hotels at the time we checked in here and even in the villages were adapters. Okay that’s not the main problem. Business center of the Novotel is USELESS! U can’t download, exit save send to ur own email as they blocking system, okay why then I need the business center?! So we just sit there for 1 hour and didn’t understand the problem, and the guy from reception said yes this is how it is. Take it or leave it! But as everywhere there are sone good ppl, who has really deserved to work in a hospitality field. Staff such as like JANINE & TANZINE ( i hope the spelling is correct) were just an angel and a fresh air from this all what we faced during the stay. They just solved our problems in a second, that’s the host we’re looking for when we come to the country where u don’t know anything and anyone. Thanks girls, rock it stars! Ich habe eine Nacht gebucht. Check- in war unkompliziert. Wie bereits viele schreiben ist im Zimmer alles via Fernbedienung bedienbar. Ich persönlich mag das jetzt nicht so besonders. Hatte Probleme, die Dusche zu bedienen. Ansonsten wäre alles Positiv zu bewerten bis auf einen grossen Minuspunkt: das Bett war mit einem plastifizierten Molton bezogen. Kennt man von Kinderbetten, damit nichts auf die Matratze läuft Nachts… Ergebnis/ ich habe geschwitzt wie sonstwas. Nachts um 3 aufgewacht: plitschnass. Hatte kein 2. Pyjama dabei und bin den Rest der Nacht in meinem eigenen Schweiss gelegen. Echt unangenehm!

Wir verbrachten zwei Nächte in diesem Hotel in der Kategorie: Deluxe-Studio. Das Hotel liegt 150 m von der Bahnstation nach Bern entfernt. Die Bahn fährt tagsüber alle 22 Minuten bis in die Innenstadt zum Bahnhofsplatz/Spitalgasse für 14€ pro Person. Die Tiefgaragenplätze für 15€ pro Tag sind groß und vor dem Hotel gab es keine freien Parkplätze zur Verfügung. Per Self-check-in wurde eine Karte für das Zimmer zur Verfügung gestellt. Die Luftzirkulation in den Fluren bis zum Zimmer sowie auch die Luft im Deluxe-Studio war sehr ”abgestanden”. Da sich im Deluxe-Studio die Fenster öffnen lassen, ist die Luft schnell wieder frisch. Das Deluxe-Studio hat eine Größe von 27 m2 und viel Stauraum in einem großen Schrank. Das Bett ist bequem mit Blick auf einem großen Flat. Die Küche ist gut ausgestattet, auch ein kleiner Geschirrspüler ist vorhanden. Ein Schreibtisch steht direkt vor der Fensterfront mit Gardinen und Außenrollläden. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis wird erfüllt.
