It is very clear that Hotel Palace Bologna was once a grand, prestigious establishment. Unfortunately, it feels as though decades have passed without genuine care, love, or refurbishment, leaving the property looking tired, dated, and a bit sad to see.
The Room:
Historic Charm: The rooms have lovely high ceilings and a classic feel, but the hotel's age shows everywhere.
Thin Walls & Creaky Floors: The floorboards creak with every step, and there is almost no sound insulation. You can hear distinct conversations through the walls and every footstep from people walking past in the hallway.
Basic Amenities: The setup is stripped down to the bare minimum. There is no kettle, no fridge, and no basic tea- or coffee-making facilities provided.
The Bathroom & Toiletries:
The amenity policy was baffling. In all our travels, my husband and I have never stayed anywhere that provided shower gel and shampoo in tiny flat sachets instead of small bottles or wall dispensers.
We were given just two small packets and two mini soap bars, which meant having to ask reception for extra shower gel every single day.
With proper investment and modernisation, this place could be magnificent again, but right now it feels neglected and under-equipped for modern travellers.
