We like to treat ourselves when we book a short break. We were due to travel to the Buda Castle Fashion Hotel last November but had to postpone to early January due to family illness. We booked the Buda Castle Fashion Hotel as it is 4 star and had great reviews. Firstly, the positives - extremely large room with plenty of storage (big open wardrobe with hanging space and shelves), the room had a safe, complimentary toiletries, and is situated in a gorgeous very historic part if Buda. However, for us, it just wasn't a 4 star .. it was nice, but just didn't have that bit extra that you would expect. • we arrived at 9pm, booked as part of a package including flights, even though the write up says a restaurant and room service no food is available in the evenings. We asked at reception if there was any food available (would have been happy with a sandwich) but they said no. They directed us to two restaurants down the road but said they'd probably closed their kitchens - which they had, but one took pity on us and rustled us up a couple of desserts so we didn't go to bed hungry. • the room generally was very clean, but the bathroom did have substantial mould around the bath. • the breakfast room is very cramped, approx 8-10 tables for mainly 2 people (couple of 4) which is no way near enough for the capacity of the hotel. So there was a lot of people waiting around for a seat/table at breakfast, people feeling the need to hurry up to free up a table, and a lot of congestion around the buffet. That said, there was a good spread of breakfast options (fruit, cereal, bread, cheese, meat, pastries, scrambled eggs, mini hotdog sausages, and diced bacon). • the room was extremely hot, it had a thermostat in the room, but this didn't work the temperature remained the same - we even tried setting it to 5 degrees, but the room remained very hot. The windows only open an inch, as there is an inner window that blocks the outer window opening (as the outer window opens inwards). • the beds, though large, we're not comfortable, very lumpy, combined with the heat made some uncomfortable sleeping for us. • the hotel states there is a bar, open until 11pm, however, it is not possible to sit in the bar (same area as the breakfast room), drinks can be ordered and taken back to your room. We quite enjoy sitting at a bar and chatting to other guests. Though we did find a lovely tiny bar down the road (go out turn left, keeping going past Jamie Olivers, and on your left). So all in, we had a lovely break in Budapest, amazing architecture, lots to see and do, amazing meals out, but unfortunately we were a little underwhelmed by the hotel.
