Weather aside (we knew this was not the right season for Cairns), the price / performance ratio for this place is not right. It is not badly maintained but also not sufficiently maintained for the climate. First glance is OK but details are not. The facility being split across a street is not mentioned anywhere we looked … and quite inconvenient when it rains as usual his time of the year. The pictures on the web site or other travel sites look nice but the truth is different, as usual. Rooms are truly spacious but the pools are not and the rooms are definitely not as immaculate as on the pictures. Just the door frame is rusted. So is the door of the fridge and the light fixture above the bathroom sink. Some of the kitchen cupboards doors show their age and do not close right. And, icing on the cake, the wifi is the lousiest you can imagine, reminding me of what 4-5-star hotels used to offer in the early 2000. Simply impossible to connect from the room, bad and iffy from the terrace, practically had to go the reception to get anything decent. And even there you would have to sign in again and again in the old-fashioned security system that is unable to recognize customers who have signed in before or maintain their connection as they wander through the complex.

The photos provided by the operators are extremely deceptive. The accomodation is old and run down. The shower tiles were painted at some stage, and it is now peeling off both the floor and the walls. The “updated” vanity basin and tap are poorly sizes and you are unable to fully wash your face due to the shape and size of the basin with a shorter necked faucet . There is no complete enclosure for water in the shower resulting in you flooding the bathroom each time you shower- we ended up using the common showers in the passageway to attempt keep our room dry. The toilet paper is only single ply so bring your own if you decide to stay here !! Our towels and sheets had stains on them and the pillows are flat and lumpy. I wouldn’t swim in the pool unless you’ve had your latest tetanus shots. We were followed back to the accommodation by a slightly hostile homeless person one night which was slightly unnerving for our teenage daughters. The nicest part of this accommodation is the outdoor BBQ area. The breakfast provided smelt ok, but we decided to eat at the cafe at the marina each day as we were heading out to the reef and islands anyways. We decided to stay here and save money as generally we are out during the day and only need a comfortable bed and a clean shower- next time we will be going back to our regular accommodation closer to the Esplanade. I saw ‘Cairns City’ in the title & booked, but don’t be fooled like I was as the motel is up in Cairns North, a good 15 minute walk from the Cairns CBD & Esplanade area. The view from my apartment was the Cairns State High football field on Sheridan Street. That said, the motel was decent for the price charged ($180 a night in peak season) and the Wi-fi was strong which was important as I was working remotely for a full day from my room. It’s by no means a modern motel but the room size was adequate & had everything I needed for a short 2 night stay. The room was well prepped, with a fresh tropical coconut fragrance as you walk in. There is a bit of noise from the Main Street outside and you can hear other guests next door from time to time but overall nothing too distracting. There were cafes & shops nearby within walking distance including a bakery 5 minutes up the road which does espresso coffee. But it is not a city motel & without a car it’s a hike to get to the Cairns esplanade/lagoon area where tourists normally go. On the first night I walked into town & saw the laser light show installed for the Cairns Festival near the Pier Bar & had a massage treatment at Foot & Body in Orchid Plaza.

The location is excellent, with spectacular views of the ocean - if you had an Oceanview room. I didn’t originally because my travel agent messed up. But the manager, Richard, was super helpful and was able to give me one after some work on his part. My room was spacious, clean, and had a great view on the top floor. The housekeeping was very good (they promptly replaced a worn out chair), the laundry was prompt, the premises were clean and quiet, and they had a full buffet breakfast. The best part for me was the air conditioning, which kept the room cool even when it was 94 F outside. Also, the location was less than a km from grocers and about a km from some nice restaurants on the Esplanade. So the hotel suited me perfectly.

We stayed here for a total of 9 nights. Six nights then 3 nights, with a 9 day tour in between. We stayed in two different apartments. Both apartments were very clean and well maintained, each with different furnishings because of the different ownership, but each well furnished. Both had comfortable beds and all the necessary items for self-catering. The grounds and pool were well maintained, although we didn’t use the latter because of the cooler weather we experienced. The apartments are about 1.7 km from the Cairns Central shopping centre, which is walkable and about the same distance to the Esplanade shopping area. All are walkable, but having a car is an advantage. Secure covered parking is available with a coded gate. There is road noise, particularly at peak times, but it is not intrusive with the windows closed and is quiet at night. The occasional train and aeroplane is heard, but also are not intrusive. The Managers John and Noutekh were friendly and very helpful and accommodating, particularly with assistance during our break between the stays. Definitely value for money. It was a very pleasant place to stay.

Once I got used to it (it took me a day or so), I liked the place! The manager, Mike, was laid-back, friendly and always very helpful. We arrived on a dark, rainy day and night (normal for the time of year in Cairns) and my first impressions of the accommodation were a bit gloomy: breeze-block walls (thankfully painted white), *****-lighting, a bit of a stale/damp aroma and sofa with black-tape repairs. However, for most of our stay we had sunny (and mostly dry) weather and it felt much better in the apartment and the breeze-block walls protected us from most of the neighbourhood noise. The apartment was clean and well-equipped. The cooker worked well - we didn't mind using matches to light the hobs. Good, clean toilet / shower room. The shower was powerful enough with water staying consistent at the chosen temperature. Very good value.

Stayed 1 night owing to its location to rental car pound and airport. Dropped car off at rentals, walked back to the hotel. Our room was ready, even though we were early, no problem, very welcoming receptionist. Room had everything we needed - but it overlooked the main Highway. We ate in restaurant that night, perfectly adequate, very helpful waiting staff. Asked hotel to arrange taxi for a 4.30 pick up. Taxi arrived on time and dropped us off at the airport. Everything went well, apart from the noise. The road is very busy till late and internally someone near to our room was having shower/bath late at night and the plumbing seemed to go right through our room.

PPengguna TetamuWe stayed for 5 nights in total and couldn’t have been more impressed with both the rooms and the service at Tropic Towers. First impressions were already great as I called to change some dates due to a Fitzroy Island overnight stay - Peta could not have been more helpful and made changes to our booking free of charge, even though I called the day before our stay. When we arrived, Peta was so welcoming and explained the area to us as it was our first time in Cairns. We stayed in a 1 Bedroom and 2 Bedroom apartment during our time at Tropic Towers and both were immaculate, spacious and like a home away from home. Full kitchens in both rooms meant we had no issues cooking on a couple of evenings. We had a beautiful view of the sunset from our balconies too! Peta even offered for us to leave two of our bags with her for the night of our Fitzroy Island stay, instead of having to take them over to the island on the ferry. We would definitely recommend this place and look forward to staying again in future! Thank you again Peta :)

We booked a 2 bedroom apartment which had plenty of space, air con in each room and living room, and was stocked with all the amenities that a family would need such as a dishwasher, dryer, etc. The apartment is about a 30 minute walk from the main area of Cairns so we needed to catch an Uber each time which wasn’t ideal. The reception hours are also limited to working hours each day. We did have an issue with a shower handle coming off it’s hinge and had to wait until morning to have this fixed. We could also hear people walking up and down as the complex isn’t very sound proofed. There was a clean accessible pool which we also used. There was a clean bbq space too which would be useful for family gatherings. Overall, we had a generally enjoyable stay but would consider staying somewhere closer to the main area if we were to visit again.

It has 2 outdoor pools and spacious air-conditioned apartments. COMMENT In June 2023 We found our apartment 205 for 10 days to NOTt to be of 4star standard at all. PRO: The bedlinen and bathroom towels were very clean and of good quality. The air conditioning worked. The ceiling fans worked. The apartment was spacious. The fridge worked but bottom of door shelving missing. Inconvenient if you wanted to store water bottles etc. CONS: ” Each unit at the Edge has a flat-screen TV”., which was NOT working and had to be re-connected by guest. “Free Wi-Fi” NOT available in unit 205 – we were informed by office unless you wanted to stand outside of office area to connect. Apartment was dark, - lighting in all rooms inadequate and woefully dim and outdated. Lighting in laundry area was badly positioned – and here there were no instructions on how machine worked. *Vertical Blinds in poor state and need maintenance or replacement. *All doors (screen and glass sliding) need maintenance to run smoothly. *The furniture was inappropriate (apart from 2 leather sofas) and badly arranged. *The ambience was noisy. The decor throughout the apartment – wasn’t.!! Except 2 pictures hung almost at ceiling. – 1 small mirror in dark hallway., and a wall clock. (All 15 years or more in age) *No rugs or furnishings to soften the décor or the echo sounding throughout the apartment. *Coffee table in bad state. *Dining table satisfactory but serviced by 2 different types of chairs. *The bathroom needed maintenance/upgrade (and pictures I have taken show much damage to outer base of shower, mould along the wall.) *The kitchens come equipped with very basic essentials. A microwave and dishwasher., utensils for cooking on very old worn stove. “Some units have balconies with sea or mountain views”, others, like ours, at 205 had overgrown foliage with NO views. The Edge Apartments Cairns has an outdoor entertainment area with barbecue facilities and free on-site private parking. *The Rain forestation Nature Park is 11 miles from The Edge Apartments. Kuranda Scenic Railway and Skyrail Rainforest Cableway are only a 10-minute drive away.

On the first night we discovered the TV in our room had a smashed screen and the bed was so old you could feel every spring. Second night we were moved to another room, TV worked but there was no internet so you couldn't access any of the apps on the smart TV, free to air only. Morning of day 4 we went to make breakfast at 7.45am and couldn't access the guest kitchen (which ic in the pool area) as the pool gates were still locked. The guest kitchen has next to no equipment for cooking anyway, 1 spatula, no tongs, no knives, 1 usable small frypan, an electric frypan that doesn't work, a toaster, microwave and kettle. The sign on the back of our room door says no food in the rooms, but if there are no facilities to cook or keep food outside of it, then you can't comply. The bed in the second room was more comfortable and the rooms were clean. The shared toilets were clean, but the shared showers need some serious attention on the mouldy grout. Very run down place, the a/c and ceiling fan worked, the fridge, kettle, microwave and TV worked. Pool was great, hot tub worked, but the rest of the facilities were either non-existent or in terrible disrepair. This resort really needs some money invested in repairs and replacing items used by the guests. The photos on the website were obviously taken years ago when this would have been a lovely resort with a bar and Cafe which are now closed indefinitely. Dry powder was spread from the room, to the hallway, toilets and under other doors. The fire alarm and evacuation notice sounded at 1.50am, while standing in the evacuation area with the other guests at 2am, the culprit was nowhere to be seen and the night caretaker didn't even do a head count of guests or check that everyone was out! What if there had been a fire? That was Wednesday night, it is now Friday morning and the extinguisher has not yet been replaced, so there is nothing to use on the ground floor if a fire started.
