TLDR You only have one chance to make a first impression ....we flew all the way from DC, on our 20th anniversary to stay at the Villa d'Citta. During our 4 day trip we were forced to take 3 cold showers and had to wake up early 3 of the 4 days because we kept being told the water heater was being fixed in the morning (it never was). The owner only offered half hearted apologies. The long version First the Good The Villa D’Cita is gorgeous. I mean stunning. Real old-world Italian charm, like you crossed an ocean vs crossing Lake Michigan. We are talking a fireplace, giant tub, multi head shower, terraces, a hot tub. An elevator will take you and your bags. If you’re the type of person who needs midnight nosh, this place has got you. Unlike most places, this B&B has an 24/7open kitchen with sangria, sandwich fixings, bagels, Italian ice, cannolis, donuts, coffee, juices, hot cold tea, you name it. You can also pre-order a pizza for a fee Ok, now the not so great/bad We picked this place to celebrate our 20th anniversary, hoping to make it truly special and romantic MONDAY: flew into Chicago and when we got to the villa I decided to take a shower before dinner. The water was lukewarm but it didn’t really register as a huge issue, maybe because I was so hot and I wasn’t convinced I knew how to use all the dials in the shower correctly yet. TUESDAY: Went to bed hoping to sleep late and woke up to banging around 9am that lasted for over an hour. Went to take a shower and the water was cold. Hubs called the owner and got a text back that the water heater /circuit breaker was on the fritz and they would come by to reset it. We waited 30 min but still no hot water, so my husband (a Navy military vet) finally decided to take a cold shower, “just like on the boat” The owner texted back apologizing and telling us that the water heater would be fixed THURSDAY between 9-5 (so much for sleeping in late on Thursday) But until then they would monitor the water temp periodically We were extremely disappointed and briefly considered leaving so we texted the owner and let him know that we were frustrated However, the owner texted back and said he would reschedule the Thursday heater installation so we could sleep late. We assumed that meant later in the afternoon or on a different day. We decided to stay WEDNESDAY: No noise, slept in late. But woke up and no hot water again. Texted owner and he came over and fixed it promptly and spoke in person to my husband Turns out the water heater was still scheduled to be fixed on Thursday and he asked my husband if we could be done showering early. My husband asked if 11 was ok. But the owner countered and asked if we could be done by 10 (ugh) that was only an hour after the original time. Who wants to set an alarm on vacation, when we could be in bed cuddling? 20th anniversary, remember? He then told my husband that he was NOT giving us a discount because we were already getting a discount on the room.
