I recently stayed at Gateway Chikmagalur and unfortunately, our experience wasn't as great as we expected it to be. The property has so much potential, but several aspects need significant improvement, especially given that its part of a brand like Taj. Food Quality & Variety: The food was a major letdown. Both the variety and taste were subpar, with barely any options for a non-vegetarian. The breakfast buffet was particularly underwhelming, with limited options and items that did not seem fresh. Can't say much for the dinner buffet either. For a hotel with such potential, the culinary experience needs a serious upgrade. We ordered a couple of appetizers to the room and called room service to clear the tray at 10pm. We checked out the following day at 12.30pm and the tray was still outside our door. Property Maintenance: The hotel itself is situated in a promising location in the midst of nature, but it is clear that maintenance has not been a priority. The common areas and landscaping felt dated and in need of refurbishment. The change rooms next to the swimming pool was worse than a 2 star property. Potential: Despite how old the property is, it still has great potential. The location is excellent, offering beautiful views and convenient access to local attractions. The architecture and layout of the hotel are charming and could provide a wonderful guest experience if properly maintained and managed. Service: Service was just about average in all departments. However, I would like to thank Darshan from the front office for taking care of us so well. Conclusion: Overall, this could be a fantastic place to stay with some significant improvements in food quality and property maintenance. I hope the management takes these aspects into consideration, as the hotel truly has the potential to be a top-notch destination. Until then, I would hesitate to recommend it to others.

We went as a family in the month of May. The property is a beautiful one , with lots of greenery, birds and beautiful rooms. However, the restaurant was a sore point. This property has just one restaurant and it is super slow. The service takes forever and staff simply do not care that kids are waiting hungry to dine. On at least two days , we called from outside to let them know of our order so that we can have food as soon as we reach. Despite that it took them 45 min to serve food. One order during our breakfast ( chocolate milkshake) was completely missed despite multiple reminders. Simple orders like spaghetti or milkshake also take very long and my problem is with the attitude of the staff. We were told that because of buffett, a la carte orders would be delayed. We have never heard this at a Hyatt or a Hilton ever and we were totally taken aback. After I raised it with the property manager, we got a slightly faster delivery the next day. Its recommended for only adults. If you are going with kids, prepare for them to remain hungry an hour for lunch and dinner orders ( when there is no buffett) Surprised by this Taj property, will not trust thr Taj brand blindly from here on for a great service.

Me and my family (Wife Parents Brother and Mother in Law) visited this beautiful property at Chikmagalur last week. Very well maintained property, courteous and very helpful staff. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Special mentions FOM Debanjan Basu and your team - many thanks for your prompt responses to my queries n needs. Great experience at Check in and Check out. Raghavendra and Gautham, thank you Restaurant Ram and your team, many thanks for going out of your way to serve us to our specific palates. House keeping team, many thanks for making my wife's birthday special with the towel decoration n cake. Also, for keeping the rooms and the property at top hygiene standards. Great work put in! We went for 1 day trip but it was very relaxing. The hospitality of Taj never disappoint you. Food was delicious with wide variety. Evening music event was cherry on cake. We enjoyed that alot. And they also provide car cleaning service during checkout

Everything was just perfect from the front desk smooth check in to clean and big cottages. Regarding food specially local food Aki roti tastes great 👍 Thanks rahul for morning walk activity it was nice with memorable nature view. Kid friendly resort with lots of activities for kids.Kids enjoyed rabbit and fish feeding. Swimming pool was Totally clean, huge and perfect. Spa services were very relaxing thank you mr godson. Special thanks to Raghvendra and Manjula for making our stay memorable

Management is too busy in meetings. No customer interaction on check in and check out unlike what I witnessed in previous visits. This is apparently my 25th Visit. Refurbishment and bathroom renovation is good but public areas need upgrade. Garden - despite good rains is in a bad state with fallen tree branches both in and outside property not removed for a long period. Entrance to the property is a nightmare.Housekeeping is good but both food and service need a lot of improvement. No standard recipe for standard items like mulligatawny soup and navaratna dal! Lunch buffet not ready at 1.30 with many items missing and most of the food cold. Description of items do not match with the item displayed , Penne in pink sauce labelled as pesto in pink sauce!! Shared feedback at the shop floor but no one bothered to reach out to me. Birthday cake - would have tasted better in a local Iyengar bakery! Miss those friendly staff of my previous visits, Not a pleasant visit at all. Had planned to extend my stay but alas how could I, with such a terrible experience!!!

The hotel staff were friendly and gave us a personalized experience. We were a group of 15 people but they addressed each of our needs. The kitchen was brilliant and the amenities on property were enough to be enjoyed for our stay. Swimming in the evening with the family with tea being served was my favourite activity.

Had a great stay at Taj Gateway Chikmagalur. I visited with my family and a 15 months old. Overall all was good, food, experience and stay. Rooms were big and hygienic. Bathrooms were clean too. Staff were friendly and helpful and greeted us warmly. No complaints 🙂
