Good location, nice room with a comfy bed and big bathroom, we paid extra for a sea view. We were bed and breakfast, the hot breakfast options were very limited and not very warm. The other breakfast choices were good with no wait for a table, lots of staff clearing away. Around the pool many of the sun beds are old and saggy. For a 5 star hotel we expected mattresses on the sun beds, they were uncomfortable. Our biggest disappointment was that I emailed twice to inform the hotel that we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. There was no acknowledgement of this. No spa voucher or even a bottle of fizz. Reading other reviews I can see other guests did have their celebrations acknowledged and had spa vouchers. So there needs to be more attention given to guests as individuals, reception staff were disinterested. Loved estepona so we will return to the area but will select a true 5 star hotel next time.

We absolutely loved our stay. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed every single aspect of our time and, as a difficult family with many different views and needs, this really was incredible. From the easy way our needs for our accommodation was met to the lovely warm welcome we received on our arrival, each member of staff we encountered was happy, smiling and welcoming, the rooms were spacious and beautifully furnished giving a lovely airy feel. The rooftop bar is such a lovely addition to an already lovely hotel and, we all had a fabulous meal at Makako that night. The following morning we had breakfast outside - again the service was amazing with warm, smiling, helpful staff - a lovely menu and a buffet full of everything we could possibly want. So, having spent many days and evenings celebrating special events with our family during the summer, our time at El Pilar was voted No 1 for our celebrations - simply, the best! So, thank you one and all for making our time so memorable and, really hope to be able to stay with you again in the not too distant future.

I was looking for a cheap basic hotel as near as possible to the centre of Estepona, and the Hotel Mediterraneo far exceeded my expectations. For a 1* hotel it was surprisingly nice inside, and appeared to have been recently decorated. The location is perfect, directly on the beachfront, just a few minutes walk from the beautiful old town centre, a large number of bars and restaurants, supermarkets and shops. The harbour is around 2km away, 25 minutes walk along the coast. The hotel has a 24 hour reception, which was welcome, and made the hotel feel safe and secure. The front door is locked at night, so you need to ring the doorbell to gain access if you return late, but this is not an issue as there is always a member of staff at the reception. All of the staff I encountered during my stay were very friendly and helpful - after check-out I was not due to travel home until late in the evening, and the staff let me leave my suitcase at reception during the day. A lift services all floors. My room was of a reasonable size, and despite booking a single room got a full double room, on the top (5th) floor of the hotel. The room had a powerful air conditioning system with a working thermostat that included a timer function, so the room was always a pleasant temperature. There was no safe available in the room for valuables. There was no fridge/minibar, but the reception area had vending machines offering drinks and snacks. Otherwise, the central location means there are supermarkets and shops nearby. The bathroom was spacious and included a walk-in shower, with an overhead 'rainfall' style shower, as well as a detachable handheld showerhead. Shower soap and hand soap were provided. I think the drain was slightly clogged, as the water did drain quite slowly, but not slowly enough to cause any issues. The room was clean and tidy, and was cleaned daily by the housekeepers whilst I was out. Considering it is a 1* hotel, I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel, and would not hesitate to stay here again. Amazing value for money and one to consider for cheap but high quality accommodation.

A boutique hotel, centrally located in Old Town & right across from the beach. Clean & great design aesthetics. We enjoyed the included breakfast and having drinks on the patio & rooftop at sunset. Our room was a corner unit with amazing views of the plaza fountain & town. We (2 couples) stayed for a week & enjoy eating out. Old Town is full of top rated restaurants & bars - all walking distance. It is a lively place with a great vibe. (It is not quiet at night - due to being right in the hub of it all which we loved. Mornings start quiet & slower however.) We had amazing service from Nikoles, Angel Andres. They all went above & beyond to make our stay perfect. Welcoming us upon arrival, arranging tours to Ronda & Gibraltar & even first aid assistance when I was stung by a wasp. Housekeeping team was friendly & did a great job. Our only suggestion is an earlier start to the breakfast. (On tour days time was tight or we had to miss.) We highly recommend this hotel. We plan to return to Estepona and will definitely stay here again!
