November 28 - December 12, 2024 Here follows a very detailed review of Eriyadu, which is worth reading for those looking for a resort in the lower price segment and willing to compromise on food and drinks. Introduction: We’ve been vacationing in the Maldives regularly since 1991, often twice a year. We previously stayed on Eriyadu in 2003, 2004, and 2013. Back then, the house reef was so spectacular and vibrant that guests from other resorts would take snorkeling trips to Eriyadu — and rightfully so. At that time, there was a buffet restaurant located directly on the beach with an open view of the sea. The swimming pool was considered an unnecessary luxury, and all accommodations were distributed as duplex bungalows around the island. For the last ten years, we weren’t interested in how Eriyadu developed. We moved on to “better” resorts. About six months ago, however, I came across a blog by an Englishman about Eriyadu. The pictures and videos showed a relatively dull reef but an astonishing variety of fish. That convinced us to visit Eriyadu once again. Back to the roots…. Arrival and Departure: After a 1.5-hour wait at Velana Airport, we had a rough speedboat ride to Eriyadu, which took about an hour. The resort staff gave us a warm welcome, provided a brief orientation, and handed over the key to our bungalow. The return transfer was punctual, and with calm seas, it took just under 50 minutes. The Island: The first view of the island revealed a construction site for a new jetty, which was urgently needed after 40 years. This didn’t surprise us, as I’d read that the new owners had carried out safety checks during the takeover and found the old jetty no longer met regulations. After contacting our travel agent and the operator (Schauinsland), we were assured that there would be no construction noise in our bungalow. Trusting this information, we decided not to rebook and make the most of our holiday. While we occasionally heard the excavator or hammering, it didn’t bother us. Other guests, even those staying on the far side of the island, complained loudly and demanded compensation. After a week, the excavator was gone, and construction continued manually. We estimate the new jetty will be operational in six months, after which the old one will be dismantled. The second glance revealed a “row housing development”: a two-story building with 12 units where the buffet restaurant once stood. The restaurant was relocated behind this building, set back from the beach, which is definitely a downgrade. There’s now no view of the sea from the restaurant. The island cannot currently be circumnavigated on foot due to erosion. The southern side has very little beach, while the northern side has plenty. There’s no need for parasols, as the area between the bungalows and the beach is densely vegetated, providing ample shade. The resort is due for a complete renovation at some point. We have been regulars to the Maldives for over 12 years. We always stayed at a beautiful laid back island called Rihiveli which is currently undergoing renovation. In search for another island with a similar atmosphere, we came across Makunundu Island. After reading lots of reviews, I gathered that there were some bungalows with hardly any privacy and no sandy beach in front or very clumsy beach access. When making the booking directly with Makunundu, I specifically asked for a bungalow with easy beach access which was ”well noted”. However, when we arrived we were given possibly the worst bungalow on the island. Unless you wanted to climb over a tree trunk and sharp rocks, a blue pipe and some discarded sand bags, you had no direct access to the sea from your property. The only option was to cross over your neighbours properties to make it into the water. The sun beds were cramped into a shaded area with no space to move them anywhere else if you wanted to sunbathe. My husband went back to the reception and asked for a different bungalow, but the island was fully booked and no alternative could be offered until ”maybe tomorrow”. We tried to find sun beds to spend the afternoon but the handful of them in the common area were all occupied. We tried to get our free snorkelling equipment but no sizes were available for me: ”maybe tomorrow”. We returned back to reception to speak to the GM and also mentioned that we specifically ask for a certain type of bungalow and were told: ”We do not entertain requests from first timers. When you come back as a repeat guest, we will give you what you ask for”.... This was quite a harsh statement and makes you not want to come back to be honest. The next morning, we were prepared to leave the island and move to a neighbouring resort if no other option had become available, but luckily we were moved to a new place. The new location was paradise, we had privacy, direct beach access, a beautiful view. It made all the difference and we were the happiest people for the remainder of the holidays. The bungalow itself was also bigger and although not upgraded yet, it was sparkling clean and very comfortable. Apart from the unfortunate room allocation, everything else was perfect. Food was delicious with tons of choices, staff always eager to help and make your stay better (special thanks to Ismail in the restaurant and Mohammed from the housekeeping team). The island itself is tiny but beautiful and the house reef stunning. Mosquitos are an issue so bring along your repellent. Fumigation happens regularly but there are still plenty of them around. After a very rough and disappointing start, we had a wonderful holiday on the island and will definitely come back again if a bungalow in a nice location is available and guaranteed. From start to finish our experience at the Oblu Sangeli was incredible. It was our first time visiting the Maldives and it was everything we could have wished for and more. We stayed in the water villa and it did not disappoint. The room was beautiful and the access to the lagoon was amazing. It was great for snorkelling and had plenty of corals where we saw baby sharks, manta rays and lots of colourful fish! We embarked on the turtle snorkelling trip and saw many turtles which was wonderful! The buffet was great and we appreciated that they changed the dishes every day so you had a variety to choose from. A huge thanks to Chef Rahul who not only made excellent Indian food for us, but also became a good friend and was always so kind to us. Another big thanks to the waiter, Yathrib, who was so friendly and attentive to us and gave excellent service. This really made our experience even better. We also really enjoyed the fine dining experiences included in the Serenity plan. Both restaurants (just grill & just wok) served delicious food and a nice view of the sunset. A highlight for us was the pool as it was right next to the ocean and the view was incredible. We loved the slide leading into the ocean, that was a vey unique touch for the hotel and lots of fun at the pool party too and recommend you throw a pool party a couple times a week as it was great! We really enjoyed the live entertainment in the evenings and especially loved listening to Dee & Jay singing so beautifully! A highlight for us was definitely the excellent service from the staff. From the first day we could see that they were genuinely nice people and took pride in their job. A special shout out to the Sangs bar staff who were always kind and friendly to us. They made our experience better by just being genuinely nice people and their service was excellent! A big thanks to Pradeep and Lahiru who lead the team and always greeted us with a smile and made us feel at home. A huge thanks to Ibrahim and Madheeh who made us laugh everyday and gave brilliant service. You made our experience even better by just meeting you all. We will definitely return to the hotel in the future as it was the best holiday we've ever had! The Maldives is really paradise on earth! Don't think twice about booking to stay at this hotel because it's perfect!

This was amazing place, even despite coming in October during rainy season. Service was exceptional from the begging- person awaiting us on the airport, speed boat transfer late evening, with nice welcome and service (water/towels/wifi) We arrived late evening, so dinner packages were ready in the room. All Incl package was nice however we missed some food in between breakf-lunch and dinner. Issue is wifi which was not working properly/everywhere. Normally i think its ok as we do not need internet on such vacations, but as we needed to work one day it was hard. Again anyways. Great service. Hospitality of staff in restaurant and bar too. Also reception who gave us a chance of later checkout. It was very convenient as we travelled with 2yrs old toddler. Room was spacious, kept clean every day properly + water bottles delivered daily. Good snorkling trips for free provided daily.

Definetely recommend to everyone to stay. Room was wide and comfortable. Ocean is incredible with turquoise color. Staff was friendly and helpful. Many kind of food was delicious. Trip.com provided the cheapest reservation option for us. So thank you all for this lovely vacation.

One of the best resorts we have been to. Rooms are spacious. Service is impeccable. Food is great. Price is on the high side, but I still feel we got value for our money. Highly recommended.

The Resort is located around 45 minutes speedboat journey from Male. We lived in a Water Villa for 4 nights. The resort is scenic and beautiful with very cordial staffs. Excellent restaurants are serving tasty Indian and International Cuisines. The Spa is having very experienced therapists and we took several sessions with them. The resort also has lot of fun activities including snorkeling in an excellent coral filled location. The Water Villas are really beautiful with privacy and access to ocean water for swimming. Special mention to certain staffs who made our stay more memorable. 春節期間麻袋漲價太厲害，翻了半天攻略選擇卡吉島。島面積不大，主打spa和養生，適合喜歡安靜悠閑的人，吃的不錯可以感受到大廚還算用心。住322號水屋位置很棒，腳底下就是魚兒游來游去，下水往外遊十米就是珊瑚和海溝，退潮的時候水很淺適合浮潛新手（請一定要穿救生衣）。總的來説服務跟6🌟島還是有些差距但是性價比不錯，推薦～
