I stayed here with my two children and my parents for two nights during what some locals described as the typical Norwegian Summer, i.e. rainy and relatively cold. The hotel room my children and I were assigned was cold as the heating was not working. The room was rather small and the bathroom was simple, but the view was lovely. I can imagine everything would have looked much better on a sunny day. Breakfasts in this hotel are simple and the choice isn't great (unless you choose eggs). For me without a doubt the best part of my stay was the excellent service provided by the lovely, witty Polish waiter who served our meals in the evening. The hotel should treasure him.

LLKRL88The host wasn't around when we arrived, but there was a phone number at the reception hut and things were sorted out quickly. The cabin is lovely with good facilities. Nice surroundings close to the water. There were no nearby restaurants open during this time of year (10th September), so we went to the supermarket to buy some groceries to cook dinner. The kitchen is very complete to cook a decent meal, everything is there incl. salt, pepper and oil. Lovely modern and squeaky clean bathroom. Comfy bed and a large sofa to relax and watch TV. Good value for the money.

My husband and I stayed at the Hjelle Hotel in September 2023 right before they closed for the season. I am so glad we did! We loved everything about this hotel. We had a beautiful view of the lake with a balcony. The surroundings are so beautiful and peaceful. Glad we paid extra for the room with the view. We ate at the hotel restaurant several nights. These were the best meals we had during our time in Norway. The best part of our stay was the hospitality of the owner Lorenz and his staff. Lorenz was kind and welcoming and always ready to give suggestions for hikes and places to visit in the area. His staff was friendly and efficient. We enjoyed getting to know them as well. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. If we had it to do again we would have shortened our stay in Bergen to add more nights at the Hjelle Hotel.
