Hotel terbaik di Newburyport

This is my second time staying here, and it was just as pleasant as the first time. A comfortable room, everything works beautifully, plenty of outlets, and USB ports for recharging devices, and a super friendly staff. They were quite helpful in every regard, with a fast check in and check out. They were also spot on when I asked for a recommended restaurant for dinner. I went to Loretta’s, and it was great! The complimentary breakfast is also a great way to start my day. Will always be coming back to the Essex Street Inn when I visit Newburyport.

This visit started off really badly even before it began. After booking in March, I received an email 3 days prior to arrival, letting me know that they were ”finishing” their renovations. There was no indication at the time of booking that any renovation was going on. If there were, I would have booked elsewhere. I responded to that email and asked why there was no prior notice given - and to no surprise, I received no response. Well, there was no front door, no lobby, and a temporary entrance in the back of the building, surrounded by dumpsters and construction trailers. Not the most aesthetic experience, but whatever. (Mind you, all the parking is, logically, in FRONT of the building). We checked in, and the front desk person said ”we have no lobby, but all our rooms are completely renovated.” I thought, cool, I don't sleep in the lobby anyway. We entered what I thought was a reasonably clean room, but that changed once I looked deeper. It was about 50 degrees in the room so I quickly turned up the AC. I went to set up the iron, and when I moved the iron, there was about 10 years of dust surrounding it in it's location. I picked up the ironing board, and it literally disintegrated in my hands. The escutcheon around the showerhead was not attached to the wall, and loaded with rust and crud. The escutcheon on the safety rail in the shower was also not attached, revealing that the safety rail was also only connected to the wall with ONE screw, leaving two holes empty - and the screws weren't just missing - they were never installed, as there was no hole in the tile - can't wait until someone who NEEDS this rail tries to use it. The showerhead was clogged with years of scale and rust, causing the water to dribble out in every direction except at your body. The refillable shower amenity pumps were also empty. There were various spots of mold and grossness scattered around the bathroom too. When I left for the evening, I mentioned these items to the front desk. I returned to the room in the exact same condition. That evening in bed, the room was dreadfully warm. I set the AC back down to 70, nothing happened. I turned it down to 65, nothing happened. Apparently because it was set so low before my arrival, it was frozen. So no AC on the first night! I did go on the app and request that the shower amenities be refilled, and those were filled the next day.... but nothing else was touched. When I checked in, I was asked if I wanted daily housekeeping service. I said ”yes” and did not receive any. When I inquired the next day, I was told ”housekeeping is only on request.” I said I did request it, and then I was promptly told ”oh, it's only every two days.” I'm fine with that, but was not informed, and as such, had tossed all our towels on the floor. I asked if I could get new towels, and was told yes, and that was done while I was out. So someone went to my room, but still ignored ALL the other things I reported. DAy 2, t

Quick summary: very comfortable rooms. Very good housekeeping. Friendly, professional staff. To note: my review is based on what I expect of this tier of hotel, i.e. NOT a five-star, but not the price, either. When I see people complaining that there are plastic utensils at the FREE breakfast in COVID times, I have to shake my head. We stayed here while in town for a wedding. Room 311 has two very comfortable queen beds and very good down-like pillows (maybe they are?) All the usuals I expect of this tier of good-value hotels: coffee/tea maker, iron/board, microwave and fridge, good desk and big workspace, closet with a nice big mirror on it, etc. Good number of places to plug in your devices. Complimentary wifi and HVAC worked well. Our bathroom had a roomy walk-in shower; other rooms have a tub/shower combination (sigh - I love a bathtub after a long day.) Neutrogena toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, body lotion. LOVED that you could turn on the light without the vent automatically coming on - less headache when you're just putting on makeup. Nice buffet breakfast of hot and cold items, eggs, meat, cereals, fruit, juices, etc. Again, I don't understand why some reviewers complain that they are not getting a breakfast like at the 5-star hotels -- this is a very decent breakfast at this price point. Friendly, helpful, professional staff throughout. Excellent housekeeping. Due diligence on some very minor gripes: There were no washcloths in the bathroom (fine by me - my roommate cousin noticed.) She also asked that the hand sanitizer on our floor be refilled (it was empty) on a Friday; still wasn't filled on Sunday when we checked out. My little gripe is just noticing how some hotels try to cut costs yet still deliver the basics. The chest of drawers in the cabinet is a stack of baskets, i.e. small items will fall through the wires. Again, a minor gripe, but retrieving small items that fall through to the bottom is a bit annoying. The location is good - a short drive from the I-95, good for touring the north-of-Boston area of Newburyport, etc. To sum: we'd be happy to stay here if we are in the area again.
