We stayed at Sinalei Reef Resort for a few nights after a horrible experience at the Tanoa Hotel in Apia. Our initial thoughts were to escape the issues we had at the Tanoa Hotel of Dirty Rooms, Rude staff, Poor Food menus and Rude staff. We had looked on line and reviewed Sinalei as a place we could indulge in before flying back to Fiji on our way back to Sydney. How wrong were we to choose Sinalei. Not only was it triple the price per night but fell way below our expectations. Where do I start on the negatives........We arrived, took an hour for them to check us in, lady that checked us in was pleasant but had no idea on time, we were then handed our Key, they had no electronic keys to rooms, we found our way to a beach bungalow, gardens were nicely manicured but the room was DATED, DATED, very old and in need of a refurbishment, for he prices they charge this was not HIGH END, MORE 2 STAR. Ive travelled the world with my wife and this was below par. Im big on fresh crisp linen but am afraid Sinalei had old duvets, old pillows which you could smell the mustiness of the previous guest, pillows were old, mouldy. Sheets old as well as seemed they had Been there for years on end. Open aired tower was full of mosquitos and at night where you had the lights on in the room attached an array of colourful insects including centrerpedes and millipedes. Pool area was lovely and fresh. Bar service at Uncle Harrys bar was poor, had to go up each time and ask the bar staff to serve you a drink, much of the Time they were playing Island music which was fine but if your paying top dollars you would expect decent service. We at all our meals here, not bad but not fresh either. I had the steak and my partner the fish on our first night, both items were not fresh at all. Took nearly two hours for the mains to come and were were one of three couples dining. Next day we had breakfast and I ordered the eggs scrambled, Im pretty sure the eggs were pre powdered eggs as this did not taste like scrambled eggs. On our last day we met the owner as he said he was, my partner food him very sleezy, elderly chap who took more attention to her then our comments and views on how he could better the resort. Overall a nice setting but rooms need a major upgrade, major as it is not 5 start but more 2 star, service needs a major overhaul as does the POOR FOOD. Dated................and NOT WORTH THE MONEY THEY ARE CHARGING.

We just spent a wonderful week at this Samoan owned resort and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had a beachfront room, which was quite large and had two lovely recliner chairs, comfy bed, and a very large bathroom. The resort is quite large, though there weren’t many people there, unfortunately. The beachfront is gorgeous with a lovely swimming area, though not good to swim at high tide, which was when we used one of the 3 the pools. Two places to eat at night, our fav was the Rockpool Bar with a view over the rocks, ocean and great sunsets, a reasonable menu though not lots of veges. There was an absolutely stand out show on Saturday night with the Maeve String band cultural group that you won’t want to miss! Wednesday night is Fia Fia Night which was another wonderful night to attend. Thursday night is the Return to Paradise Movie, where you learn more about the movie being made where the resort now stands, the actors snd more importantly about the Samoans who were in the movie. The $10 per person is given to the village medical fund so well worth the effort. We took school supplies, which are needed as wages are poor and schools receive very little support. Unfortunately we couldn’t bust the school but we’re happy to leave them for the resort to get to the local school. This resort was the second one in our two week visit, and we can say the staff here were amazing. Friendly, efficient and made you really feel like you were home. In fact they liked a joke with you, which we liked. The resort owners, Ramona and her son Raz were up front and mingled with guests. If there was something I felt could be a bonus would be a handrail into one of the pools, as difficult to get into if you had any disability. This wasn’t only at this resort though, as the other resort we stayed at didn’t have rails either. If you do have mobility issue however the rest of the resort has ramps everywhere! That was wonderful. Even a wheelchair if needed. If going we suggest hiring a car to get around to fill in time or get to many great spots, like the clams and turtles close to the resort, the many Waterfalls, Apia Town, Trench, other beaches etc. Tours can add up! We didn’t and regretted it. The island however isn’t somewhere you’d venture if you have mobility issues on the whole. Waterfalls , most beaches have Rocky outcrops to clamber over for snorkelling, ladders into the trench and the Piualla. Caves as well as Apia are not for the faint of heart or designed for people with mobility issues. Something to think about as it can certainly limit what you do. Thoroughly recommend the resort and glad we had the opportunity to visit Samoa, swim in the crystal clear water of the resorts Sandy beachfront and meet wonderful people. I would like to thank the lovely staff at the insel Furman for making my frist trip too samoa, with lovely friendly people eg. Patricia and tumama with your lovely welcome every morning and the lady's who do the house keep 4x stars too you guys room are lovely and clean eg. Elina and table.then the great service and food at the restaurant great work guys .would all so the the night guards always friendly in the morning after working all night you guys have made my frist visit to this beautiful place so much more enjoyable thank you again

Stayed just one night because we had business to attend to in Upolu. Breakfast was very good. Staff were nice and room was clean. A couple of small negatives, our room was very small and the pillow itself inside the pillow case was covered in brown sweaty stains. I could not sleep on that pillow. I did point it out to staff in the morning and suggested that they check the cleanliness of their pillows when preparing the room. The lady I spoke to was very grateful to have that pointed out. Overall this hotel is handy to most things in the main centre.

The worst accommodation experience we had during our entire visit to Samoa. Please do not book with them. Prior to booking, I checked the bad reviews and spotted a few that had me in two minds. However, I proceeded to book it due to the photos, location, advertising, price and the good reviews. We had booked a 'deluxe suite'. Well we arrived at 1030pm after a late flight in, was shown to our room by one of the cuzzys of the accommodation. We walked into a 1 double bed, 1 towel, stinky as all s@@t bathroom not to mention how dirty it was. So I gave it all a quick clean, went to the toilet...the toilet moved from under me as the whole bloody seat was broken. There wasn't alot we could do, so my partner 6ft4, my son and I all shared the bed and towel the next morning. Unfortunately, I had booked our final 3 nights there, long story short we had asked for a refund...we were told they would not charge for the first night and would discount it off the other 3 nights. To their defence, they apologized for the 'mishap', however we wanted a full refund of the other 3 nights as we did not want to come back....another long story short...we have been told that there will be no refund. We are staying at another hotel, while paying for moatoga. I'm so ropeable,don't do it to yourselves. It's a dive! I wish I had taken photos!
