A very solid stay at the Hotel Cochemer Jung in December! We usually stay at the Marriott brands because spouse has status with them, so we hadn't stayed in a smaller hotel for a while but we had a great stay here! We had just finished a Christmas Markets group tour with Gate 1. Our plans included extending our stay in Germany for a couple more days to visit our son who's living and working in Germany and also to go to Luxembourg for a day trip. We decided to stay in the town of Cochem. Our friends thought the reviews at this hotel looked pretty good so we all booked our rooms. Unfortunately we arrived earlier than the stated check in time but the staff member was real nice and went and checked with housekeeping to find out when the rooms would be ready. They were able to have one room ready so we put all our luggage in that room and went to explore the town. This is a smaller but modern hotel. It's advertised as an eco friendly hotel, so they don't have in room mini fridges to save on wasting electricity and if you want daily housekeeping it's an extra cost. No real lobby but an area with some computer terminals where you can check in. The manager's office is nearby if you have any problems and the restaurant is right next door. Our friends paid a little bit more and got a larger room and larger bathroom and also a river front view. Our room and bathroom was smaller but fine for us and faced the back or alley, so not a fancy view but interesting. If you return to the hotel late/after hours, the doors are locked and there's a back door with a card reader so you use your room key to get back in the building Rooms are very clean, modern, solid wood type flooring with heating coils, so your feet wouldn't feel so cold! The bathroom also had those towel heating racks, a nice touch! On our departure day at breakfast we got to see a beautiful white dusting of snow on the hills across the river! Very pretty, like a postcard picture! Breakfast was included in the rate. While not a large selection, there was still plenty of variety and everything was tasty and fresh. One of the waitresses was very nice and brought and refilled our coffees and teas. They also gave us a chocolate Lindt Santa, so that was nice! The hotel's restaurant is closed for dinner. There are a lot of restaurants near the river, but during winter/non busy times many of them close earlier so we had to walk just a bit further for dinner. We found a nice restaurant with upstairs seating, so a nice view of the river, even at night. It wasn't crowded and appeared to be locals having dinner. Menu was in German, but Google Translate is helpful and surprisingly my husband actually remembers his high school German and was able to communicate good enough for most things! However the poor waitress couldn't understand us but one of the other customers was helpful and understood English and told her what we were asking. So we thanked him for his help! The restaurant
