Monte Rubiu is a lovely guesthouse with six rooms located just up the hill from the main square (by Santa Cruz Church) in the town of Coimbra. We decided to spend two nights here on our trip from Lisbon to Porto, and we were very glad we did. The house is well located about a fifteen minute walk down the hill to anywhere in town. The climb up to the university is somewhat of a challenge, but there are cabs if you are so inclined. The house and roomd are beautiful and our hostess Ana and consierge Catrina were very gracious and helpful with advice and recommendations. The house is a walk up, so if you have trouble with stairs be sure to ask for a lower room. Ana provided us with a nice breakfast each morning with fresh baked cakes and fresh fruit. I would highly recommned this guesthouse over the large chain hotels by the river, it also has a nice rooftop deck with a great view to enjoy a bottle of wine in the evenings!
