The reception in the George Hotel was staffed by a friendly receptionist. Meals are taken in that hotel. The St Nicholas is just across the road and is clean and tidy. The room I was in had a nice terrace with a table and two chairs. The room was good with a lovely bed and a clean bathroom. One facility that is not often available in hotels was a room safe. Great if you are there for a longer period.

Great hotel with a lot of history to it, and as such a very nice place to stay at. Friendly and approachable staff. Unfortunately, I had booked two rooms without adequate facilities; one room did not have hot water and the other had a malfunctioning shower. Could have been bad luck, and I suspect the hotel management to be able to fix this issue.

Pleasantly surprised. Room extremely clean. Bathroom was immaculate. Nice fluffy white towels. Plenty of hot water. Beds are okay. Not firm but that didn’t really bother as only staying one night. Breakfast was satisfactory. The scrambled eggs very yummy. Fresh fruit. Plenty to choose from. Friendly staff. We would return without hesitation.

We stayed for just one night as we were having a school reunion nearby, so we didn't try the restaurant. We didn't have hreakfast either, so can't comment on it. The location is easy to find - just off the A12. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms were clean and the bed was comfy. Easy car parking. Exactly what we required.

First thing I noticed was the excellent friendly service at the front counter. This service continued at breakfast the next morning, which was very nice - it was a menu-style breakfast where you order a breakfast you would like. Breakfast with salmon had a small supplement. The room was mostly okay, although there were some stains on the bedsheet. Inclusion of earplugs was a nice touch as it is on the main road - I happen to like the city noise, but ended up using them to block out the noise of the fan (there is no air conditioning). The bathroom had nice toiletries although we noticed that the cold tap ran hot for quite a while before it got cold. Overall the stay was fine, but with lots of hotels available in Colchester it wouldn’t be my first pick to return.

My daughter had wedding here 8th aug great time staff friendly rooms very clean amazing venue wedding was beautiful ty rose and crown for making my daughter and her new husbands day very special we all had a great time thankyou so much again xx

The hotel is very njice a reward. The lkxation is from.the station a taxu or a bus . A hotel.aervice busses for this area . The polution leverls are falling rapiduly and helping the staff stay.qirh tje plans ia to uae feet cover s i have golashes palatix then off my boota and on theae over my socks.. or slippers or a hosue shoe ..like a indoor trainers or shoe fpr sports. The carpest are tp be kept but if the customera kwpw tjis bargin the staff can have many many pther taaka compelted within health and safety. Quite difficult to find this hotel and a few more signs would be helpful. Having said that we were pleasantly welcomed and shown the way to the Brasserie. Bev, the lady in charge, showed us to our seats and we arranged to have 2 mock tails instead of the Prosecco. No problem with this. The sandwiches, cakes and scones arrived promptly and were very freshly made. The scones were light and fluffy. Bev made a very good job of running the dining room which was very busy considering it was a Wednesday lunchtime. Highly recommend and would visit again.

Checked in later, member of staff on the front desk was quite unhelpful and blunt. The room still has stains all over the sideboards.

Recently returned from an overnight stay at GreyFriars Hotel and all in all it was a very enjoyable visit. We upgraded to a Junior Suite and the room was exceptional with plenty of space, comfortable bed and a beautiful bathroom. It was lovely to see that the hotel retains many of its original features which are well integrated with contemporary fittings and sumptuous furnishings. We had dinner and breakfast in the Cloisters restaurant where the food was excellent and all the staff there and throughout the hotel were very attentive and helpful. Car parking was easy in the private car park and there was plenty of space available. When we return to Colchester we will definitely stay there again, it was perfect.
