Hotel berhampiran Mercury Bay, Cooks Beach

Hubby and I decided to have a pre-Christmas break here before the crowds descended on Whitianga, and enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere. The views from our apartment were really good, but we didn't use the glassed-in balcony, as the timber beam across the middle of the windows cut into the view, so we preferred to sit in the lounge area and look out through those window instead. Be aware that the location on the main waterfront road means a lot of traffic noise in busier seasons. I would recommend earplugs at night. The fan was good, but air-conditioning would have been even better! We stayed for 6 nights, and would have to say that the apartment isn't really set up for stays this long, as there is no storage in the kitchen, no drawers in the bedroom, and the fridge is very small. We made do by using our suitcases as drawers, and setting up some cardboard cartons as kitchen shelves, as we mostly did our own catering. The bed was very comfortable, but not really set up for sitting up in bed reading or watching TV, as it would start to move across the room when we leaned against the wall. We tried using the door stopper under one of the rear bed wheels, but that only helped on one side. If we stayed in Whitianga again, we would probably look for a place with more storage and air-conditioning. However, for the price, the location and views were very good, and I loved being able to walk across the road to go for a swim.

Thank you Daniel for holding our booking. We found our room to be very cramped, maybe due to it being recessed to allow for stairs up to the first floor rooms. Could hear when someone used the toilet in the above room! Not much bench space, no running water apart from in the bathroom, and no electric blankets! Would suggest all info leaflets be compiled into a suitable folder, including instructions for the tv. Read that room included free continental breakfast, only tea/coffee/milk/sugar available! Pleasant outdoor area. Great location.

Our family of three stayed in Bayside Motel Whitianga for the last week of school summer holidays in 2022. We can not fault this place. From an excellent location, proximity to the beach and town, friendly and attentive hosts, to clean, modern and well equipped rooms. Off street parking, large bathroom, very quiet AC. Thank you Robyn and Warren for helping us with the medical issue we were suddenly facing and with recommendations of places to visit. We felt very welcome.

Couldn’t be more grateful for the owners of this place! Due to an unfortunate tyre blow out myself and partner were unable to get to our location for the night. We were looking for somewhere close to the tyre place as our spare was also flat but it was past 7pm in the evening so repairs could only happen the next day. We phoned the out of ours number at the reception of this campsite and were so grateful that it was answered and we were able to get a powered site at such short notice! The facilities here were clean, kitchen lovely to cook in and the actual site itself was well looked after. A shame we were only passing through and couldn’t stay longer but felt very safe and looked after due to the kindness of the owners. Couldn’t recommend anywhere better to stay in this area!

We know Hahei very well having spent many holidays there and when we had a family wedding planned we were looking for accommodation that was about as central as you can get to everything the area has to offer and chose Tatahi Lodge - private quiet and comfortable - we thoroughly recommend staying there. Good location and nice accomodation

The facilities are clean. We used the camp kitchen and the toilets and showers. There is a clothesline and picnic table at each of the waterfront sites (which is what we had). It was a little strange that we were put next to the only other occupied site on the waterfront site. We could have been spread out a little. None of the entertainment facilities were open - food and drink. There was a small shop where we purchased coffees. We thought the price was very expensive and was at least $24 to $36 higher than any other comparable caravan park we stayed at while we were in New Zealand. Staff at checkin and at the shop were polite and friendly.

Wonderful park, lovely cabin, clean, amenities great, pool really nice, the best reception staff ever: so friendly, patient and helpful. Fish and Chips available on the premises. Location is the best, close to the beach, and short drive everywhere.
