Since we were here during the stock show, we woke up yesterday morning with the 2 grand champion steer and heifer in the lobby. That was totally unexpected and very cool to see. Reminded me of an old west saloon and hotel.

This is a HISTORIC hotel with loads of character. It isn't modern. I received a small upgrade to a club King room. My 5-day stay was FABULOUS! I was worried the room would be in dire need of repairs given some of the other reviews & pictures. That was not my experience as my room was well appointed with an espresso coffee maker, robe, and beautiful finishes.
I don't think guests can turn the air conditioning on in the winter; however, my room had a very pretty ceiling fan which I used. Only negative was the maid who wouldn't replenish my coffee cream - she just flat out said no to my face. Lol. It was so odd I just laughed it off, but definitely unprofessional.
I strongly recommend tea & dessert in the lobby during the evening live music. Christmas decor was still up which definitely added to my stay! I miss it already.

The first room I got had a broken TV and they ended up opening the wall before moving me. Room service had cold and congealed food that was inedible. When I brought it up they did take the food back and take off the charge. Second room was satisfactory, but cleaning staff did not took away but did replenish the towels that I used and hung up, the robe that I used and hung up, or the mug that I used, so I had limited items the next day. Was frustrating enough that I was glad to leave.
The tea service in the lobby is fine, but not sure the whole experience was worth it for me. I am used to better service.

We stayed here for NYE. We ended up staying at the hotel for the NYE celebrations and it was a lot of fun. They had a Latin Band that was great. Everything was great.

We expected a better hotel, we got a room in the 8th floor which was terrible, bathroom did not have hot hot water only lukewarm and the room was very cold , we tried to up the temperature but the thermostat did not work . All in all it was a very bad experience

Marriott and the hotel management can do better. Where are your brand standards and pride? This is a beautiful, historic hotel but….once you pass the lobby it is run down. Neglected. It’s sad to because it is such a historic gem.
Paint and consistent maintenance go along way. You literally have chunks of walls missing. I walked pass many employees who never said hi back to me while in passing. Hospitality is virtually non existent at this hotel. Hopefully the owners and Marriott will turn this location around before it’s too late. Make the changes that need to be done to preserve this hotel!

For the Brown, Palace being a Marriott Bonvoy property, things should be more modern in the bedrooms and more updated. Otherwise I loved the atmosphere,the food and the staff are amazing.
