Ulasan the Silk Road Dunhuang Hotel

Over-priced for what is on offer. Smallish, out-of-date room with a tiny bathroom, located a few km out of the lively town center. The only bonus is a restricted view of sand-dunes which you get during breakfast. But is that worth a 500rmb per night premium over a more central hotel offering nicer rooms? I certainly wish we had remained at our central hotel rather than moving here when rooms became available.

Highly recommended to everyone. We traveled to Dun Huang in early May (2024), and we feel grateful for all the kindness we got here. The hotel is very clean, and the service is super accommodating. They provide free pick-up from airport (or train station), so all you need is to call them one day ahead (the receptionist can speak English if you don't speak Chinese). Everyone will smile at you and ask what they can help you when we stay there. The location is brilliant too. It is like 1000 meters away from Ming Sha mountain, and you can actually see the sand mountain when you have breakfast at the hotel (it is free too). We will definitely stay here again when we visit Dun Huang next time.

You won’t regret staying here. In summary it’s a very nice hotel (quite large actually) that is perfectly located (about 1km walking from the sand dunes (Mingsha mountain and Creacent Moon spring area). Staff is extremely friendly and helpful and the architecture is also really nice. The views from the roof top terrace (breakfast/ coffee spot) are amazing and the breakfast itself is also quite good. The downside that’s also to mention: Price wise it’s a bit expensive especially during holiday season. Rooms are a bit old and you can hear everyone passing by.

Amazing hotel with view on the desert ! Comfortable and clean bedrooms. Very well located, next to the crescent moon scenic area, also in front of the outdoor show and 3 mn far from the town center by car. There is a shuttle bus to go to the town center and to the airport. The staff at the front desk welcomed us very warmly, they are really nice and helpful. The buffet breakfast is delicious and tasty, it is located on the roof top with view on the desert. I strongly recommend you this hotel.

As amazing as it looks. Great location to walk to the dunes. Rooftop perfect for sunset and sunrise views. Only advice is to not eat at the Bar restaurant on the roof (breakfast is great, but dinner menu is mostly average western style food - go to the night market in town instead!)

This hotel was the definition of luxurious. Really wonderful stay at an exceptionally affordable price. Highly recommend to any travelers. Front desk was so helpful too.

Our second visit back to this hotel, as we like the location and also specially its rooftop restaurant for meals. the mingsha dunes forms the backdrop at the rooftop and its lovely to watch the sunset and the sunrise. the rooms are comfortable. breakfast is a buffet and local specialties included.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Silk Road Hotel. Rooms feature traditional furniture. Highlight is the rooftop terrace, where you can have breakfast and food and drinks during daytime with stunning views, especially for sunrise and sunset.

We had a perfect stay in the hotel. The reception was very efficient and kind. All information has been provided professional. The room itself is comfortable equipped. The breakfast provided all Western and Chinese typical dishes - very well. Due to the high season the seat capacity was partially to low. The location is pretty good - in walking distance to the Dessert Dune. The Night Market can be reached by shuttle bus or taxi within max 10 min. next to the hotel are few tasty restaurants for reasonable price. The hotel dinner we didn't check - based on the menu there is as well Western and Chinese food available. Very closed to the hotel there is an Open Air Story Show which is highly recommended. This show is closed over the cold season time. All in All we would take the hotel 100% again.
