The Damodar Retreat

Very average property near Durgapur Barrage. An erstwhile Govt property and now has been leased to a private operator. River Damodar is 3-4 minutes walk from this property. Room and bathroom in the 1st floor are ok but are little shabby and old fashioned. The front corridor looks unassuming, if not ugly. They will give you 2 very small medimix soap and 2 shampoo pouch as "bathroom toiletries". What surprised us is the poor and almost worn out condition of the bath-towels. It seems they don't have sufficient staffs to ***age the show. Intercom was not functional. We had to call a particular staff (on his mobile) for small issues. But the staffs tried there best to meet our expectation but without that professional touch. May be they need some basic training to look after their guests. The locality doesn't offer any scenic beauty excepting a few trees.

The service was very good, and our stay was so relaxing. The price I paid was absolutely worth it.I can bring my children and small pets. Providing accommodation and adequate spaces for kids and small animals will help you win over parents and pet owners.

Nice place to relax, recharge. It is close to Damodar river. The place is being developed and it has a huge lawn and garden. Food is great, especially Bengali cuisine. Rooms are very spacious. A bit dated but the environment makes up for the tlc need . Riju was amazing - always ready to serve with a smile. Souvik generously spent time with us to help us feel comfortable and well looked after . Definitely recommend this place for a weekend getaway.

Everything was excellent and the staff took very good care of us. Soubik was there with us throughout and we were very touched by his attention to details and genuine warmth and hospitality. Riju is an excellent cook and made sure all our meals were super delicious yet light and homely. Strongly recommend you visit this place with family...they take excellent care of the elderly.

The Damodar Retreat had been on our wish list since a couple of years now and finally we decided to visit the place last month. The booking process was very smooth. We called the hotel and paid 50% in advance. There is no complimentary breakfast, but the food cost is reasonable. There is usually a rush at this place during weekends. Driver accommodation is also available. The property is spread across a huge area. There are around 12-13 double rooms in the two-storeyed main building and some 4- bedded rooms in the annex building. There is an in-house restaurant and an open air restaurant in the lawn. The lawn is huge and well maintained. In winters, we saw a variety of roses in the hotel garden. Organic farming is carried out and we could see such fresh vegetables in the garden. The swimming pool is not functional now but there are plans of opening it up soon. The rooms are huge, with a big bathroom and attached balcony. There is no electric kettle in the rooms but the staff is very helpful and provided us with hot water whenever asked for. Do not forget to try the variety of tea available in the hotel. All in all - a very good stay and we wish to visit again.
