Schloss Dürnstein is a corner of paradise. If you need to relax, would like to enjoy sunsets over the Danube along with gourmet food and excellent wine, and always be welcomed by a smile, professionalism, and kindness this is a unique place. We went there five years ago for the first time and never looked for something else since then.

We stayed four nights at this lovely hotel, we stayed in a large deluxe room with a large shower bathroom plus a large bathroom witch was lovely. the views were great from the windows, we dined in the restaurant every night and the food was great, it was a per fit stay. The area nearby was beautiful, great for car trips or walking, We will surely stay again in this great hotel, the pools were great also

The castle is in a great location in picture-perfect Durnstein in the Wachau wine area and offers numerous facilities for a comfortable stay including many sitting areas, a secluded outdoor pool area and a separate indoor pool and spa - there are also bikes for hire and a cycle trip along the Danube to the nearby villages is highly recommended. The room was spacious and had a pleasant outlook although the bed and pillows were not very comfortable and the furniture is older style in keeping with the history of the castle. The breakfast quality and service was excellent with a selection from the buffet and restaurant quality a la carte cooked food- I ordered the omelette which was fluffy and very tasty. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant but can highly recommend the hotel's off- premises causal dining cafe/bar close by where we enjoyed an excellent fresh pasta and the castle's own premium wines in a contemporary setting. Staff were friendly and helpful and we felt very welcome. Overall highly recommend.

This place is living exclusively on its unique location overlooking the Danube. The quality of the rooms is highly doubtful. For example, for € 400, I would expect a decent bathroom and not one that is far too small, offers hardly any space for placing your bare necessities and doesn't allow you to take a shower without flooding the entire room. Also, while taste cannot really be debated, many of the paintings on the wall (both in the room and in the restaurant) are cheap kitsch. The entire hotel is in need of an overhaul and a thorough renovation. On a positive note: at least the kitchen has delivered to expectations.

I stayed here one night as I biked the Danube path with friends. I had a double room which was large and comfortable. You really felt like you were in a castle with the ornate decor! Little touches like homemade chocolates, plums, etc in the room made me feel very welcome, as did the staff who are the owners and make it clear that they care about their guests. The castle is beautiful and interesting with a gorgeous view of the Danube. Breakfast was quite good, and they would cook eggs to order which is very welcome. The only two negatives I would say would be: 1) the dinner we had in the restaurant (we stayed in due to rain.) It was overpriced and not very good. I had the pasta with funghi (mushrooms) and it had no taste. I wish we had eaten elsewhere. 2) the air conditioning did not work well. It seemed to go off in the middle of the night and not come back on. I had difficulty getting it to start in the first place. If AC is not present, then fans are fine but I didn't have one.

The hotel is very much a landmark of Durnstein and is located just below the famous castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned. The entrance to the hotel is the old castle entry point ( Neu Schloss). The hotel is on the river Danube bank so the views are excellent. Rooms are huge ! We had so much space in our room. As the owners try to retain as much of the actual structure , it is not a modern hotel . There is lack of power points or charging points for phones in the room - had to use the bathroom power points . The toilet and shower areas were in separate rooms too. Minor inconveniences though. The restaurant Schloss serves wonderful food and portions can be generous. Staff are very attentive and accommodating. Breakfast spread was good with nice selection of breads , cereals and teas. You also get a cheese and cold cuts tray at your table , as well as the usual hot items like eggs, porridge etc… There is a small spa and gym which can be nice to relax after all the walking in the Wachau Valley . Overall a lovely old charm hotel with great views of the valley

A repeat visit to this, still the best schloss hotel in Austria. Seems to have emerged from Covid in good shape. As before we used the hotel's bicycles - renewed insofar as we could see annually - to bicycle through the vineyards and orchards, it is in a beautiful setting on the Danube.

We could not have enjoyed our time more at this absolutely beautiful hotel. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were beautiful and looked right out to the Danube River. We had a family connecting room and it felt like we were in a three bedroom, three bath beautiful castle corner. They provide many wonderful accessories included a refrigerator fully stocked juice/water, robes, lotions, bikes to enjoy, two wonderful pools, a tea station and a parting gift. The breakfast is also not to be missed! Our only regret is that we did not stay longer.

My wife and I loved everything about this hotel. The staff was extremely courteous, and attentive to all of our needs. The bedroom was quaint. This hotel was built in 1630, but they have done an outstanding job of bringing it up-to-date. The little town of Durnstein is beautiful. We enjoyed our breakfast, which was provided by the hotel. We had rented a car, and the parking area is rather small, but it is next to the hotel, and is very accessible. There is a gate that you enter thru. It was designed for a horse and carriage so it's pretty tight, but it is easy enough to get thru. I felt that we got more than we paid for in our stay!
