Holiday Inn Express & Suites Winchester

Overall very positive - quiet and clean with a friendly staff. Negatives: - holiday inn express (corporate) should give up on the plastic fake cheese omelettes at breakfast - they are bad. The rest of the breakfast is pretty good, though. - although advertised as smoke free our floor reeked of cigarette smoke and Febreze. Even the room cleaning crew was complaining about the smell. I realize it is not the hotel’s fault if someone smokes in their room.

We used IHG points for a one night stay at this hotel. We have stayed at numerous Holiday Inn Express hotels, and this one was by far the worst. The lobby was messy and the floors looked dirty. We were told not to use the side door because it was not working well - which was true - it could not be locked because part of the jamb was broken off. We were given a first floor room. On opening the door, the room had an odor and the tile floor looked dirty - I wondered if the room had been cleaned. On closer inspection, the floor was chipped and stained but didn't have debris on it. The towels were fresh and the bathroom was in order, but the tub had mildew around the caulk and a large stain in the tub. There is very little lighting in these rooms - only one light by the door, lamps on the wall by the bed and one light on the desk. The next morning, my husband went to the lobby early for breakfast, which was overcooked eggs and sausage. He overheard the breakfast attendant tell another staff member that she was ”still throwing up”. I had breakfast elsewhere. When we left, there was no one at the desk to resolve credit card charges that should not have been made - the room was free on IHG points. Usually a small charge is made, then removed before checkout. We wondered if we were given a bad room because it was on points - not our experience on other stays. This hotel is in poor repair, not very clean and understaffed.
