Lovely four night stay at this hotel service staff food and wine all excellent although a little expensive compared to the bars just outside of hotel

We chose Barcelo Oldtown Funchal as we wanted to stay in the town not out in Hotel zone. Location was great, but reception staff very unwelcoming, disinterested, did not show us to room, did not say how to make lift work with our card. Room very well appointed but very small and dark. Bed very comfortable, bathroom large with walk in shower. Breakfast a shambles, all totally self service and queuing for everything. Lovely roof top bar with tiny pool and nice views. Being a large vibrant town, it was very noisy and there is a disco next door every night til 4 am.

Delicious food and cocktails, we enjoyed two meals here. Cauliflower popcorn was a highlight, along with delicious seafood. Excellent cocktails we tried tequila sunrise and margarita. Would absolutely recommend when visiting Funchal.

Perfect location, the room was clean, had everything you could need, was very large. The bed was extremely comfortable and the sheets excellent quality. The only negative I can think of is that there were no facial tissues provided in the bathroom. Good choice for breakfast and being celiac I was also offered lovely gluten free croissants and bread by the very friendly and helpful chef.

Town centre and great location, a lot of noise from the bars and street singers but the windows do block most noise. Staff are helpful but there is a lot of noise from the activities going on in the area , when we stayed there was a loud speaker on the sea front which you could hear all day when in the hotel . 10 min walk from the cable cars to the gardens

We recently stayed at The Barcelo Old Town for 2 weeks. Our room overlooked the busy pedestrianised street and was quite small. However it had a huge comfortable bed with good pillows. The bathroom was huge with an excellent shower. The toiletries, bath sheets and dressing gowns were all very good quality. The complimentary water, mini bar and chocolates were appreciated. There was a kettle, coffee machine and steamer in the room. Breakfast was excellent with made to order omelettes and eggs. The buffet was very good and well presented. I was given a chocolate cake and a bottle of sparkling wine on my birthday which was a lovely surprise. The weather was not too good so we only had a couple of chances to go to the rooftop pool where there are stunning views over Funchal. The staff are all so pleasant and professional. We had a couple of slight issues with housekeeping which were dealt with very quickly. I would like to make two small suggestions: the small wardrobe could be fitted with shelves to make more storage space and a wider variety of music at breakfast would be nice. Overall a great hotel which I would gladly recommend.

Very nice and clean. Excellent breakfast. Room was comfortable, new, and clean. Shower was excellent.
