Hotel berhampiran Duncan Woods, Grand Haven

In our opinion, this is probably the best hotel to stay at in Grand Haven. The beautiful views of Spring Lake are why we chose this IHG property. Boats line the boardwalk behind the hotel making for an enjoyable stroll after dinner. There is a full service restaurant on site with a bar. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were very good inside and out by the pool. We paid extra to include breakfast in our rate. Unfortunately, the Tiki bar and pool were closed when we arrived. Think it was a little early to close both and be charged a resort fee every day we were there. Check in was slow because they were very busy. But, the front desk staff tried very hard. Appears this hotel is struggling with staffing. Expected this after Covid. We were disappointed that the lake view room we paid for, (in reality) had a roof blocking the view on the left side of the balcony and tiki bar in the center. I asked to be moved and was told there were no more rooms. In addition, Management needs to do daily walkthroughs of this property with maintenance to ensure cobwebs and mud dobbers are removed from exterior of building. We noticed! Restaurant staff were top notch and worked hard. Note: the hotel is not within walking distance to Grand Haven and Spring lake shopping areas. You must drive. This was a real challenge as road construction is going on right at the exit drive of the hotel. It’s also a challenge to get into the hotel driveway using Siri. Drive carefully! Would we return? Yes! Comfortable beds, bedding, good hot water shower pressure. I asked for a quiet room and got one. With added staff, this hotel is a winner.

We live in the area and when we lost power due to a storm we decided to stay here for the night with our 2 children. My husband travels for work and stays in hotels pretty frequently and he said this was one of the nicest ones hes stayed at, especially for the price! Everything was super clean and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be coming back again!

Please note, I have had Diamond status with Hilton for more than 10 years. On this stay, my family stayed in 2 rooms at the Hampton Inn Muskegon on the night of June 15, 2024, and checked out on Father’s Day. My family has stayed at this hotel before, and it was nowhere near this bad on our previous stay. The fact that they claimed to be out of all the Diamond member benefit snacks other than bottled water was a tad annoying, but minor. Let’s get to the bigger issues. On this stay, this hotel was quite the mess. The rooms were filthy, with all sorts of trash behind the beds, and with stained sheets. The fitness center was also quite filthy and dusty, and with zero towels. The breakfast area is added to the filthy areas. Additionally, the breakfast was supposed to run until 10. However, I’m told by another that they stopped restocking anything at 9. I went to the breakfast room after my morning workout, so I got there at 9:35 to find most of the items were completely gone. No employees were visible in the breakfast room, so I asked at the front desk if it would be possible to get more waffle batter. The person at the desk said, “Absolutely!” She then left the counter, presumably to talk to the person in the kitchen. 15 minutes later, I still hadn’t seen anyone in the breakfast room, so I went back to the front desk. The person I originally asked was back. She then said, “Oh, it is too close to the end of breakfast. We aren’t going to mix up any more batter.” So, I was left waiting for 15 minutes, expecting to see the batter refilled, but was just forgotten about. I didn’t even receive an apology for my wasted time. And my wife had been in the breakfast room at 9, when she heard someone else ask for more waffle batter. Apparently, 1 hour until closing of the room was still too close to the end to justify mixing up more waffle batter. Note, I’m not a big breakfast eater, but I really like the Hampton Inn waffles. It is the primary reason I stay at Hampton Inns. As we were checking out, I uncharacteristically asked for a refund, as this was easily the worst Hampton stay I’ve had in over 20 years. The clerk said he’d mention it to management. Considering how I failed to get notified about the waffle batter, I don’t have a lot of faith in ever hearing back on that refund possibility. So, I contacted Hilton via the app. The response was underwhelming. Their response included the following statement: “I apologize for the inconvenience caused. We will have your feedback shared to relevant team so that they can have the changes implemented as soon as possible this is the best we can do from our end at this moment. Rest assured that this does not correspond with the caliber of service or standards that any guest would anticipate receiving. Your comments will be shared with the relevant management team to ensure any shortfalls have been addressed and rectified. We appreciate your bringing this to our notice.” There used to be

It was ok

This was our second stay in the Muskegon area, and I would never stay here again. When you stay at a Motel 6 you at least know what to expect but at this hotel you get the quality of a roadside motel at the price of a Marriott. At the time of writing, this is the most expensive hotel in Muskegon and is not even close to worth it. The rooms are uncomfortable with the staff trying to hide cheap mattresses by putting foam pads on the top. The appliances in my room were broken and the sliding glass shower door was so unlevel I had to wedge a washcloth in the jamb to keep if from sliding completely open. The TV had a 3 second delay to even change the channel and the AC is so loud it’ll keep you awake all night. If you plan on using their business center, I’d say think again. It’s just an uncomfortable table in the middle of their lobby with wooden chairs I swear they grabbed from a middle school cafeteria. Their Wi-Fi isn’t password protected so do what you will with that info. Finally, they don’t offer a continental breakfast throughout the week, which just feels extraordinarily cheap. They have a paid restaurant in the lobby, but this is the first time I’ve been to a hotel that doesn’t at least offer a cereal bar. Heck, even Super 8’s give you a muffin and a beat up waffle station. In short, save your money and go somewhere else. For the price the Shoreline Inn is half a mile away and is a far nicer stay for less. I would never stay here again.

We decided to do a staycation for midwinter break and tried out the Shoreline hotel. The pool and hottub were great but we did notice that one hottub was warmer than the other. It worked out nice though for the kids to go into. Our rooms heat was broken the first night so it was very cold. The next morning the hotel worked with us to try and fix it and then moved us to a new room for our second night when they couldn't fix it. All the staff was very nice and helpful.
