💳 A weird hotel check-in experience — and a reminder to always question things I recently checked into a hotel in Portugal — reservation was fully prepaid via my travel agency, no surprises expected. But at the front desk, after showing my ID, they also asked for: My email address My phone number And… my credit card details, including the CVV. I did ask why, since the room was already paid. I got a vague answer (“just procedure...”); I did see the receptionist type the CVV into their computer. I later spoke with another receptionist, who did delete the CVV from their computer after I insisted, but let’s be honest — it’s just 3 digits. It could’ve easily been memorized or written down. I wasn’t comfortable with the whole situation. So I: Monitored my credit card in real time through my banking app. Made sure every online payment needs my manual approval Called the bank to flag what happened Decided to replace the card after my trip, just to be safe 🔐 Lesson learned: even in professional settings like hotels, don’t be afraid to politely push back when something feels off — especially when it involves your financial data.
