Beautiful property. It is a family property with an addition of guest rooms in differents parts of the castle. We enjoyed the stay and the friendly staff was always helpful. There is a very good restaurant. Cons, because it is a small property, some problems cannot be solved immediately, but the workers always were helpful and tried to upgrade the room even under a small problem, that could affect our excellent experience. one personal highlight: One day we bought some cheese and snacks as well as a prosecco bottle and seat outside, then Paolo, the restaurant manager, saw us an provided an ice bucket as well as candles (it was too dark) and table service, big detail The castle and its location are a dream, in the middle of nowhere, but close to main Umbria points of interest.

Three couples, cousins, stayed two nights at the Castello to explore Assisi and Gubbio. My wife and I and our young children stayed at the castle in 1998. We all thought it was special. Since then we have now been again twice and the experience has only gotten better and better! Highly recommend for an extremely unique experience in Umbria with much to see a in the area.

My mother and I spent 4 nights at the Castello di Petroia in July 2022. My experience was completely magical. We were visiting during a historic heat wave ( unfortunately) with highs 104 F! ) The staff did everything possible to keep us cool- taking special care to offer my mother extra fans. The rooms remained a comfortable cool temperature in spite of the heat. I would imagine during normal weather the heat would not be a problem at all as there are wonderful breezes off the valley. The castle feels like a real castle! It is like staying in a slice of history but most of the rooms are quite modern. The grounds are beautiful with magnificent views of the hillside. The pool is lovely and refreshing- a short walk down hill from the castle. There are lovely trails to explore but since the castle is at the top of the hill-- what goes down must come back up :) The staff of the castle was incredibly kind and accommodating. They arranged a taxi to Gubbio for a day visit ( definitely recommend! 20 min away). The restaurant was lovely for dinner. We ate there all 4 nights. There was plenty variety on the menu not to duplicate. the food was delicious and very authentic---quite reasonable prices and exquisite wines. one night there was a BBQ of roasted meats ( amazing) and then a star gazing lecture. During the summer they serve dinner outside on the patio in between the castle buildings- just lovely. The breakfast is a large spread. they do not serve lunch at the castle- but i would stash away a small plate of meat, cheese and fruit in my mini-fridge for later. that was quite sufficient. I also enjoyed a morning of truffle hunting with Stella-- it was a super fun experience! It is definitely an active experience on the steep hiking trails. Castello di Petroia is one of the top places I have stayed in Italy. It is still family owned. We would see the owners at dinner every night-- it really felt like you were there as their special guest. This is the hotel to visit if you want to take in the slow pace of Umbria ( which is what it is all about!) Go and contemplate the history and beauty of this ancient land. Eat local food, drink delicious wine, hike in the hills and dream under the stars. I hope to return soon!

Came here on a painting course organised by The Winslow Art Centre. We were the only guests so had the run of the place. We were so well looked after and fed. The spread at breakfast was above and beyond what you would expect. I had to be very strict with myself. Nothing was too much trouble, even down to clearing all the heavy tables and chairs in the dining room to make a temporary studio on a rainy day. The rooms were very spacious and all very different. I didn’t have a bath but prefer a shower anyway but I believe most of the other rooms had them. My bed was very comfortable and changed regularly. I would have liked a kettle in my room but that’s a minor detail and I’m sure if I had asked, I’d have got one. If travelling independently, a car would be essential as the castle is rather remote but that is the charm of the place.

Very old castle, renovated. The best things are: very quiet in the Umbrian countryside, food is really outstanding. Rooms are okay, breakfast very good. The lady at the reception is the heart of the hotel. Service during dinner needs to be improved.

Two nights in a "Suite Imperiale". Really a magical a**osphere with stunning views as you walk around the premise and walking trails below. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Cheers to the breakfast staff member who made us a breakfast fit for kings! We had a great veal packed dinner the first night at the castle and went to Gubbio the next night, not too far away. Highly recommend for an amazing experience in Umbria.

About 20 minutes drive outside of Gubbio and up a mountain, the Castello provides a unique hotel stay. Our room was in a building inside the walls. It was quite large with a very roomy bathroom with both large tub and separate shower. Beams, stone walls and wooden shutters contributed to the castle a**osphere. Just steps away,at the entry to the castle itself is the door to the restaurant or up the stairs is the breakfast room/common area-both with wood burning fireplaces. Arriving in late afternoon on a November day, we were treated to our own personal fire while we ordered an aperitif. Later on we had a delicious dinner by another fire in the dining room. Do not pass up any dishes available that include truffles or mushrooms. The fish entree was also outstanding. Our server handled multiple tables with ease while also being quite helpful with our questions. We chose to eat in the restaurant both evenings that we stayed at the castle and were glad that we did.The housekeeping staff do an excellent job with cleanliness and are quite attentive. Our room was spotlessly clean during the time we took for breakfast. We were given outstanding service by the front desk also. From a welcoming reception which included a personal tour and escort to the room to contacting a hotel in another city to get information on finding a Covid test for our return flight to the USA, the front desk personnel offered excellent service. We would certainly stay again

Wonderful surroundings and views. A very quiet place besides the motos on the road far away. The service was excellent, the room very good, and there are a lot of possibilities for either hiking or just relaxing on the premises, like next to the pool.
