Ulasan Gangshe Hotel

Used this as base for trips around the Guilin area, but was very happy with the hospitality and helpfulness of its youthful staff. Room was simple (bath/toilet area was partitioned rather than built as a separate room, but the beds were comfortable and everything worked well, the AC being particularly welcome given the humidity level outside. Broad views of nearby karst formations from the 8th? floor. Many eating options nearby, from stalls in the plaza out front to many storefronts and upstairs restaurants converted from former residences in the area across the street. A supermarket is steps from the hotel, in the basement of a small department store across the plaza both share. The hotel entrance is not obvious and down a vividly carpeted set of stairs on the plaza rather than street side of an otherwise non-descript building, so take that into consideration if you are hauling around a ton of luggage: cabs simply pull off the main street into a no parking bike lane and want you in and out so they aren't fined. Hotel elevator is smallish.
