Absolutely wonderful place to stay in Hakone. =] The hotel has a nice atmosphere and is quiet, with comfortable rooms, good food, lovely staff and wifi with a nice surrounding area and bus stops nearby including right in front of the hotel itself that go to and from Odawara/near Tokyo (just be careful if travelling with large luggage like me, the buses to and from Odawara/Tokyo were packed! So be prepared to catch one early/later, wait for a more open bus to stop by or organize a taxi/other method of transport. The staff can assist you with this though!) I travelled alone and was quite nervous, but the staff and location helped me feel comfortable and at ease during my stay (there are of course staff that speak English, though I wanted to do my best and practice my Japanese and they were all very patient with me haha). If you're LGBT, have tattoos or are just anxious to use a public bath and are worried about going to a hot spring, you can enjoy the hot springs here as the room entrances are locked with a key given to you. (There is a fee for using these private onsens, however I found their pricing to be quite reasonable, especially if it meant I could finally feel comfortable and enjoy an onsen without any worries!) The baths do face a lovely private fenced bamboo garden area, that's view is shared between the other private onsens (you cannot see each other though due to the walls of the onsens itself). As someone who was utterly terrified of using a public onsen and tried once before elsewhere without any luck, this was a massive relief and allowed me to fully enjoy a hot spring (including in the rain! It was so lovely to sit in the warm onsen at night with rain pattering on the roof and viewing the bamboo). If you are at all still anxious about using the baths however, you can always ask the staff for any timeslots that are quieter (to make a booking, you see the front desk and write your name in a time-sheet anyway so you can see what the currently booked times are for yourself.) I was lucky enough to try 2/3 of the hot springs and can pretty safely recommend all of them! If you have any mobility concerns about entering/exiting the baths, I would recommend the Kaguya 'flat' onsen as it is similar to a small pool with steps, though the Kin-gyo onsen also has a wooden bar set up next to the bathtub onsens that can assist you. Aside from the onsens, the room itself was also lovely! Because I was travelling alone, I booked a single room with a regular bed (i.e not a futon). The room itself despite being one of the smallest had a decent size to it for me to spread out my luggage etc and was quite comfortable. The room did not include a bath which was perfectly ok with me as I was using the private onsens the entire time anyway which of course include a small shower area to properly clean yourself including soap and shampoo/conditioner. Hotel Hakone Suimeisou is a perfect blend of old tradition and modern Japan. This hotel provides an excellent experience of Japanese hospitality. It is in the most convenient location and serves as a take-off point to the rest of the Hakone region. The Hakone Yumoto Station is only a few minutes walk and there are so many places to eat and shop within the area. The hotel is designed as a traditional Ryokan inn and provides traditional Japanese hospitality with rooms that are clean and well-designed. Make sure to experience the full service by availing of the breakfast and dinner service in your rooms. There are bountiful seafood dishes that are provided for each meal. Take advantage as well of the onsen (natural hot spring) facilities. There are touches of modern amenities in the hotel to make you feel comfortable. I commend the staff for their excellent service and will definitely come back in the future.

I stayed in the dormitory.. As far as dormitories go in my limited experience (being the first time) I think it was great. Clean, tidy, each bed had a privacy curtain, access to every thing service was great - I should have asked her name. She explained everything really well. And in English ..bless.. Price for the dormitories was reasonable. I wanted a place to just sleep to break up my Hakone trip. They sent me a list of Restaurant options and coffee shops prior to coming. It has a kitchenette and a shared space. The shared space could be cosied up a bit with a lounge chair or something. But it's clean, it has some books, cards dining table and chairs. Restaurant food is good and reasonably priced. Breakfast option. Coffee shop a couple of doors down. So close to the station. It's ridiculous. Close to the museum. You could go as a group. 6 bunks in my room.. save you booking 2 rooms. Great experience...

Really enjoyed our stay at this hotel, we slept on traditional tatami floors and had nice onsen at night and in the morning! The breakfast was delicious and had a nice scenery!:) Thank you so much!:)

Stayed in a ryokan style room and it is a really traditional room, with minimal modern elements (maybe just the TV and the toliet that a bit more modern style). We have both catered lunch and dinner so both were traditional Japanese meals with many side dishes. These meals were at fixed timing as well so you would have to decide it the moment you checked in. Receptionist speak minimal English and they basically asked for these information through a paper where you can circle your options. Even though they speak minimal English, they are approachable and always ready to help. The locals mainly stayed in this hotel so don't be surprised to be the only foreigners in the hotel haha Great place to experience the ryokan style type of accommodation, the view outside the hotel is great too!

客室が少ないため、貸切気分で施設を利用することができました。ビリヤードも置いてあるので湯上がりに楽しく遊べますし、マッサージチェアもありとてもリラックスできます。また、大平台駅・バス停からの送迎もしてくださるのでとてもアクセスも良いです。(温泉郷と少し離れていますが) とても清掃が行き届いていて、快適に過ごすことができましたが、残念ながら私が泊まった部屋は障子が何ヶ所か破られていたり、押し入れにしみがついていたので、清潔度は4とさせていただきます。

The staff was kind and responsible. I had a reservation problem due to wrong room information on the booking site, but the staff was kindly replaced my room with better grade. The food was great. Japanese food option provides Sashimi. Tonosawa station is nearby, so you could arrive the hotel by foot, but there was a lot of steps so it is not suitable for baby strollers.

初めての家紋、部屋はそんなに広くなく、これで5万円？と思いました。細かな気遣いが足りないと感じたのは、トイレの便座の温度が異常に高くチェックされてない、部屋の露天風呂、源泉垂れ流しのためか水で埋めないと入れないほど熱い、その注意はなかった！部屋と廊下が素足のまま行き来となっているのも嫌だった。隣の部屋のトイレの流す音もうるさかった。部屋のエアコンの吹き出し口にしみがあった。料理、そんなに感動する味わいではなかった。特別に一品付くコースだったが、がちがちに焼かれ身が固くなった伊勢海老。料理長の腕を疑う！朝食は体にいい物ばかりで、これは満足。全体的に、とても一泊、5万円の宿とは思えなかった。残念！！

Perhaps it's the Japanese in me, but I think if you're going to stay in an onsen (hot springs) area like Hakone, you need to stay in a ryokan. Jamie W. and I stayed in a nice one in Kyoto several years back, though that was on the higher end. Founded in 1715 as a stop on the Hakone Hachiri, this inn is over 300 years old and quite traditional like stepping back into a 1950's Yasujiro Ozu movie. We reserved a large tatami room (248 sq ft) with a private bathroom and mountain view for a reasonable ¥21,780. It was spartan by Western standards though there was a TV screen we never turned on. We also had a couple of chairs next to the window. Otherwise we slept on thin futons that laid flat on the tatami. It can be challenging on the back if you're not used to it. We were quite surprised to be informed they were not serving dinner or breakfast, the usual service at a ryokan, presumably because they had so few guests staying overnight. Unfortunately we were in an isolated area and not logistically close to the more touristed area next to Lake Ashi. We thought we'd go to bed hungry, but luckily we found the nearby Doll House Museum had a cafe that provided a hot meal. The must-do was reserving a half-hour in the private bath filled with the natural hot springs water. It was across the road from the ryokan in its own cabin. There were two discrete baths. One was the hydrogen carbonate spring which was kept at a high temperature that made it difficult to stay for more than a few minutes. The other was the sulfur spring which was comparatively cooler and consequently more relaxing.
