A family designed, built, managed & operated Vietnamese rural home stay! Perfect to escape the hubbub of busy Hanoi. Just a couple of hours drive south of the big city & you are into lush, green, water-logged lotus fields & the natural beauty of Ninh Binh & her surrounding rocky hills. What a genuinely earthy eco-lodge of a home stay the Lotus Field is, with its team of family members running every aspect of the welcoming home stay lodge which is genuinely away from any city or even village lights or life. All the family engage with guests & connect. From the front of house welcome by Mr Anh (fluent English) & his cousin Mr Duy (pretty good English) & Tuan (learning English) to the chefs an uncle called Duc & relative called Chau onto an aunt who is the main waitress called Thuy & the room steward uncle Hoa & room maid another aunt called Phuong; all play their part. I didn’t get the names of the relatives carrying out regular maintenance or keeping the in-house scooters & bicycles in order but all smiled & shared pearls of wisdom as best they could. The bedrooms are large with great verandas to sit out in & watch sunrise or sunset. Each room has two double beds so could sleep up to 4 guests if you wanted, in-room mini fridge, kettle, water, beverages plus usual bathroom amenities. The in room air conditioning is baltic if required plus a fan if you prefer. The views from your tranquil rooms are exceptional & they offer quite the best vista any “throne” (loo) could offer. You wont need to take a newspaper or tablet to read on the loo, the view out the large window is captivating. Ditto when taking a bath, just stare out across the wetlands up to the lush forests & craggy rock faces. You can rent a decent Lotus Field scooter for very little indeed (150,000/day) or take a free bicycle to explore the local attractions any day you want, alternatively the team will organise tours by car, minivan or motorcycle as you prefer. The eco lodge also arranges transfers to & from Hanoi or other major city or town & so takes the strain from that aspect of your planning. They also arrange taxis or private cars during your stay if required. Their kitchen offers tasty Vietnamese dishes a la carte ranging from 40,000VDN per dish upwards. Alternatively a number of set menus from 150,000VDN each for a minimum of two diners. Breakfast is included in your nightly room rate & one can easily cycle or scooter or taxi the 2-4kms to any number of external cafes, bars or restaurants. A great home stay to explore Ninh Binh & surrounding areas from while being centred in a very natural wilderness setting. A nice touch upon our early morning departure was a fun scooter-shuttle ride across the water-logged road out to our waiting taxi that couldn’t make it into the Lotus Field Home Stay to collect us. Well ridden Anh & Duy! Thanks for the stay Anh & Duy, great management team.
