X Hotel Brunswick Square

Great location. Warm and Clean. Free WiFi. Room itself was spacious. Bathroom was old and needs an update. A bit creaky as could hear other guests from their rooms. Overall a pleasant stay and great value for money.

This hotel was nothing as shown in the pictures. Please do not book. I stayed for 4 nights and it was the worst experience ever! 1- Check-in was stressful and felt unsafe It was all automated via whatsapp with no human contact at the other end which meant that most of the times my questions went unanswered. I was very uncomfortable sharing my ID via WhatsApp as I don’t know how long they keep guests’ information or what they do with it, but without that I couldn’t get my check in code via Whatsapp. 2- Accessibility concerns The hotel is not accessible to anyone with an illness or disability. There are no lifts. I was given a room on the top floor (5th floor) of a very old building with narrow staircase. Luckily I was able to carry my luggage without difficulty, but for anyone with a disability or injury it would be very uncomfortable if not impossible. 3- The room was nothing like what was shared on the hotel website or other booking pages. The toilet was clean but not what one would expect in a 3-star hotel. There was no hand soap or shampoo and the shower gel smelt really disgusting. I had to go out and buy hand soap and shower gel and shampoo. All the furniture in the room was sticky and gross. I had to also buy antibacterial wipes and clean anything that I was going to touch like door handles, hooks, and light switches! There was only 1 hanger behind the door and no wardrobe. 4- There were NO staff members or Reception desk at the hotel. There was a QR code on the wall to get in touch with Reception and that QR code was disabled, so there was no one I could write to ask for things. In all the 4 days that I stayed there, no one cleaned the room, removed rubbish, or replenished toilet paper. I had to go to the shops and buy toilet paper. There was no room service or restaurant attached to the hotel, so had to go further out for food. 5- The walls were so thin that one night I could hear snoring from the room next door almost all night. 6- The WIFI was unstable and most of the time I was unable to do any work in the hotel room in the evenings because the WIFI was down. 7- Cherry on top: on Thursday night, someone in the hotel thought it was a good idea to smoke illegal substance in the hotel. That triggered fire alarms and we had to evacuate the hotel at nearly 11:00 p.m. in our pyjamas. Nearly every family I spoke to out on the pavement (while the fire engine was called) was annoyed and disgusted and looking forward to leave. After we were allowed to go back in, the young people on my floor kept partying and talking loudly ALL NIGHT long. I gave up and got out of bed at 5:30. At about 7:30 in the morning, the young lady had a loud argument with one of the male companions which was also not pleasant to overhear. I also realised after the evacuation that the only way out of the room I was given was through the single narrow staircase. A CAUTIONARY TALE. We got to the property at 130pm, they will not let you check in early. You have to pay an additional £2.97 to get your key, you have to scan QR codes to obtain keys, you also have to provide your ID via WhatsApp. The AI on WhatsApp will then give you a code to unlock your key. THIS IS A SELF SERVICE HOTEL, NO ONSITE STAFF. We then got there at 230pm and we had to wait 30mins for the code, a hound boy then came out to give us our key. The first room provided was not what I booked. After 1 hour we finally obtained the code to another room, which was filthy, public hair in the bath and stains everywhere. with the previous occupants' underwear everywhere. The place is tired and falling apart, carpet threadbare in the stairs. The "spa" is a hot tub and a sauna down a dark, scary hallway at the back of the hotel. Now, the hotel has blocked me on WhatsApp and not given me my refund! The staff where so ubrupt, rude and condescending when I finally got through to a person. I booked via ******* and I will be taking it further with them. Honestly, it is atrocious. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Avoid this place. They cancelled our stay at one days notice with no explanation. They phoned to tell me, but no written details has been sent to explain despite me emailing several times and sending numerous WhatsApp messages. Nobody answers the phone. I still haven’t received a refund and can’t get anyone to speak to me to find out what’s happening. I’m taking them them to small claims court as they seem unwilling to help or discuss. Worst customer service I’ve received in quite some time.

Please do not stay here, absolute fraudsters. Luxury apar**ents and spa yeh right. £200 a night but you have to pay extra for the hot tub £20 an hour!! If you’re lucky enough to stay in the basement like us then you get to listen to every other guests plumbing all day and night. Visit Brighton by all means but for the love of god don’t stay here. And *********** have a lot to answer for, they vouch for the fraudsters

Check in was dreadful- no one manned reception and took over 15 minutes to actually receive door codes! Definitely AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! There was no parking even though I emailed four times. So once I managed to get round check in I received a message to say my hotel was 4 minutes walk away. This was definitely not what I had booked and was by far a worse building than was in the pictures. The place felt like a well used ******* and was filthy all round. Not staying here again if you paid me!

Impossible to contact and horrible customer service. Never an answer on the phone (tried multiple times for days), emails were ignored until a strongly worded one with the subject "urgent" was sent and when we did finally get a reply it was not helpful and rude. We didn't even make it to the hotel and paid to go somewhere else.

I booked last minute after an extremely stressful morning to stay in the ‘studio apar**ent’ however, the room we were given was far from what we had paid for or what was advertised. To start it was extremely small and had barely any of the facilities that were listed I.e. kitchenette, microwave, toaster, wardrobe, fireplace etc. It was dirty, with marks on the bed sheets, hairs found on the inside. Hairs all over the bathroom and thick dust in areas that are easily visible and accessible. Overall the room was polar opposite of what we paid money for. Due to this we went to reception to request a refund as if you can’t clean one room right then we sure as hell weren’t going into any others. The woman on the desk who gave us a fake name claimed there isn’t a manager to complain to as there apparently is no manager for that hotel??? She stated she was employed through a different company and couldn’t give us any useful information. I want my money back for this stay!!

Having read the reviews after purchasing a non-refundable room, we were expecting the worst. However, on arrival, we were greet by Mark, who explained everything in detail, sorted the keys out and the car park (which was a brisk sea walk away, but no issue). The funniest thing was that an “Eastenders Karen” was also their on arrival, worth the journey to watch the argument with Amazon over a misdelivered parcel. Thankfully, our peace was not disturbed further. I had already paid the car park and the £100 deposit. There was no surprise as the Hotel and messaged in advance. Most rooms have a deposit nowadays. Once you appreciate the age of these buildings, and the cost of just keeping them from falling apart, you can understand refurbishment takes time, you can’t just roll up at B&Q and buy a door, it won’t fit these ancient buildings. I believe the owners have a mammoth task and are trying to gradually get the hotel up to standard. The building does not have a lift, so the stairwell carpet was understandably a bit grubby from all the traffic and cases. It is only yards from the seafront. Our room (301) was above expectations after reading reviews. The bathroom looked new & modern, and although small, the bedroom was comfortable for the night. Yes, there were signs of ware and tear, damaged carpets and scuffed walls, The sink was cracked, but usable. TV and Wi-Fi were fine. What can the hotel do about previous residents abusing the rooms? Yes, there is an issue with cleaning, it wasn’t thorough, but not bad enough to inconvenience for one night. The room was peacefully quiet all night, not a squeak, the bed clean and comfortable, We checked out via a key box at 0800 as no reception until 1200 Obviously, this review is based on our particular room, but on this experience, no worse than a Premier or Travel Lodge. With the benefit of being yards from the sea. I don’t anticipate any issues having the deposit refunded, like some have suggested, but will update if necessary. I would use the hotel again for short stays.
