Overall I think this place is okay and nothing is wrong with it. These bad reviews are honest all made up lies. I stayed here and honestly it was pleasant. I liked the fact that all the foods were at WALKING DISTANCE within 5 minutes or even 2 minutes. It was seriously a good stay. Very quiet and calming. Can’t wait to stay again.

From the moment we walked in the door, the staff was wonderful! It was a busy time with dinner service going on, as well as complimentary wine in the bar. Check in was easy, and we were able to get a dinner reservation within the hour. I asked about an ice machine as I had items that needed to be kept cold. The woman at the front found us a mini fridge and brought it to our room right away. That was very much appreciated! Dinner was a pre-fixed 3 course meal, and we also enjoyed the complimentary breakfast each morning. Everything was delicious, and there was a lot of detail and care that went into each food item. Our room was very comfortable and clean. There was a heavy door that separated the rooms from the bar and lobby area that was very effective in minimizing noise. We were in the building where the restaurant is located. There is ample parking both in the lot and on the street. The downtown area is very walkable and easy to reach. Several cute shops nearby, although many of them were closed over the holiday weekend. We would not hesitate to stay at the Carter House Inn again and again!

This is a unique experience. Built in 1922, this historic inn has hosted three U.S. presidents and many actors, sports stars, and politicians. Their pictures are on the walls. The original opening of this inn corresponds with the completion of the highway which allowed access to this redwood studded part of California. There are three old time telephone booths in the huge lobby and many displays of days gone by. Completely renovated, the bed is comfortable, the television large, and breakfast free, even if your booking says that you must pay extra. TIP: If you come in winter, set your room temperature to 75 degrees (70 degrees does not really reach 70 degrees).

The room and overall property was very clean. The only real downside was that the breakfast area was too small for the number of guests staying there.

PPengguna TetamuThis hotel is clean and comfortable. The room was large enough to accommodate all our luggage. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom area was clean with plenty of towels supplied. The breakfast had several hot and cold options. The first morning there were two breakfast attendants. They kept the area clean and well supplied. The second morning there was only one young man working and he was struggling to keep up. People were waiting for food and the tables were not clean.

We were on vacation for my husband's 50th birthday with our four children along the coast of California. One of our stops was at the Comfort Inn Redwood Country - Fortuna. We chose the hotel as it had a swimming pool and hot tub for our children and booked a large suite with a king and 2 queens that offered free cancellation until 16:00 the day before arrival. When we arrived in the late afternoon my husband checked in, his credit card processed, and as he was handed the room key, he was told the pool was not working. There were two men who appeared to be with maintenance and they were overheard making a joke that he’d fix the pool when he got around to it. My husband replied to the front desk clerk that it was really unfortunate as the kids had been waiting all day for the pool. When he returned to the car and relayed the information to the family, the kids were understandably upset. We went back into the lobby to ask to check out as we really needed a place with a pool. They said we could leave but we would be charged the full rate for the room. Even though we hadn’t even stepped into the room, it was past their cancellation deadline. When I asked to speak to the manager the maintenance guy came over! Apparently they are one and the same at this property. He had no compassion and came across smug and righteous as he said there were no refunds because my husband was told at check in about the pool. So “too bad”. His words. I begged him to reconsider and he offered a discount of 50%. That wasn’t good enough for us…they weren’t delivering what we had purchased…a pool! We hadn’t even stepped into the room, their website was still advertising a pool (incredibly as I write this two weeks later, their website still doesn’t reflect the out of service pool), and we were never informed of the pool being out of service before the cancellation deadline. We left with a van full of upset kids and a feeling we’d been robbed. We contacted Choice Hotels that night to ask for them to reverse the hold on the credit card. After hearing our story they said they would and it would take place within 30 days. They also offered us a Disney World stay at one of their resorts (one of those things you have to go and listen to their time share presentation) so my husband purchased it for $299 that night. We thought everything was fine, and felt good about the hotel chain we were loyal to and my husband used for work. But a week later, the charge finalized on the credit card. When my husband called Choice back to let them know it was no longer a hold but an actual charge, they informed us they had decided to side with the manager and not refund our $190. Needless to say my husband cancelled the Disney World thing right away and we will be switching hotel brands going forward. This whole thing was incredibly poor customer service. It makes me sick to think they are stealing from families who work hard to give their families a nice vacation. Be careful if you book here. Yo

PPengguna TetamuWe have been coming here for about 5 years and it has always been a decent experience until this last stay. The food at the River's Edge was terrible. We had breakfast one day, and ordered room service one night. The omelet my husband got tasted like it was made with powdered eggs. They were out of hash browns (how does that happen?) I don't even know where to start with the room service. You have to call the front desk to order room service, which makes no sense. We called to ask if you could get soup for room service and were told no, then when we called to order the woman asked my husband if he wanted soup or salad!!!! When he asked what kind of soup she said ”I don't know ”. Not let me find out for you, just I don't know, so he got a salad with blue cheese dressing. We get our food and his salad has no dressing! He calls and says he didn't get his blue cheese dressing, when the person shows up at our door she has a bowl of blue cheese crumbles, no dressing!! We just gave up at that point. His fettuccine had some kind of burned cheese chunk on it, at least that's what we think it was. My meatloaf was more like salisbury steak, and was covered in some dark brown substance that was supposed to be gravy (I think). I didn't think you could mess up on mashed potatoes but those were not good either. $20.99 and I only could choke down a couple bites. There were no good machines to play on and of the ones we did play on, we had issues with half of them. The first night we went to the bar I ordered a drink and a shot. I was told that I could not have a drink and a shot, even though I was paying for them because it's against the rules??!! I've never heard of such a thing in my life! Then later on my husband and I saw other bartenders selling drinks with shots! I guess it's all about who you know. The saving graces of this place and the reason for 3 stars? The Express Cafe' has amazing food and staff, we loved every meal we had there and the staff was always very helpful. Barry the bartender, he was so nice and made great drinks. The kitty cat robot server (Bella) in the restaurant. The room was decent and the bed was comfortable. Not sure what's changed, new management? Hopefully they are able to turn things around. Not sure if we will be back.

The breakfast was sad with a barely edible microwave burrito, granola bar and water. They must have gone shopping at Costco. They shouldn’t advertise free breakfast.

I recently stayed at this hotel for a doctor’s appointment and had a wonderful experience. Yana at the front desk was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The room was very comfortable, providing a quiet and peaceful environment which was much appreciated. The hotel staff were all very nice, and the amenities were excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel to others.
