Dark island Hotel

Booked a table on two consecutive nights whilst staying nearby in a brilliant B & B, called Hebrides House. I am a very picky eater but was able to select easily from the menu provided, and made different choices both nights. I found all staff to be efficient and welcoming especially Elise and Beth. Good quality food served on hot plates, which is a basic, and one which quite a lot of eateries fail to do: also noticed that I was given a table check both nights - another basic often omitted, especially in busy places. I also liked the ‘atmosphere’ in the restaurant. Would definitely recommend.

I struggled to give this hotel three stars, the only saving grace were the hard working staff and the good food. We had room 30 which appeared to be as far away from the action as possible. The room was tiny and very tired. I had to put my suitcase inside the wardrobe to have any floor space at all. The mattress was cheap and nasty resulting in a poor night’s sleep. It was on the first floor and there is no lift. I was grateful that a nice staff member took my suitcase up for me. The food on the other hand was very nice. One night we had venison cobbler (although the cobbler part was a few sprinkles of something on the top). I believe that there are only two hotels on Benbecula so you are not spoiled for choice.

Great meal piping hot great tasting food Stefano and his wife and their staff I found were very attentive orders were taken and food delivered very quickly and a nice banter chat with them during and after the meal, will certainly eat here on many more occasions loved it

We arrived ad hoc and were given a table and made to feel very welcome. Good choice of drinks menus Some disconnect between the initial welcome , installation at our table and offer of drinks .. waitress went straight to taking food order . Food overall good ..well cooked well presented and enjoyable . Husbands Cullen skink .. little fish .. although he deemed it wonderful he would’ve asked me where the fish was had I made it at home ! At £10.50 some more fish required to make this worth the price Venison burgers . Very good with good accompaniments . Great that it is local . Dessert . Sticky toffee pud and cheesecake of the day . Good We both had a glass of red . Nero D Avola and Merlot .. both very good and good price It would be good to be able to tip on card ! Thankyou we enjoyed our meal and you were all very welcoming

On the island for business and have stayed here previously. Food is great. Service is great and the rooms need a little work. Better than a B&B but not as good as a doubletree. But it is more than sufficient for a few nights away from home. Great whisky selection

My room was pretty horrible. The bed was uncomfortable and needs a new mattress. There was no vanity unit. The shower was cramped for anyone tall as the ceiling slanted over the bath so I couldn't stand up properly. I had no hot water on the second night. The food was very good. The staff were friendly and helpful.

My father and I were not staying at the hotel but dined there on two consecutive days, one lunch and one dinner. On both occasions the food was excellent and really good value for money. Only slight drawback was the time to wait (it was really busy) but overall highly recommend a visit for the food and particularly Stefano the general manager who was very attentive.

Had another great meal in the Dark Island. Always come here for a meal when on the island. Good choice on menu and competitive prices. Restaurant is lovely. Would suggest booking if going as can be busy. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is always great.

We stayed on Benbecula for a few days and ate at the Dark Island Hotel on four occasions. We would have given a positive review, except on the last occasion we were stuck out the back and forgotten. We had to wait for a considerable time for our order to be taken and had to repeat some items on the order. Or coffee never arrived nor were we asked if we required dessert.
