The Thinnai - All-Suites Boutique Hotel

Our family reunion at The Thinnai was absolutely fantastic! With 27 family members coming from Canada, the US, Australia, Singapore, and Japan, we rented six rooms for one week. We wanted to experience where our parents grew up and explore ancestral lands. We had an unforgettable experience. The staff were friendly and accommodating of our allergy and dietary requests, and Chef Krishan and team’s delicious food was a highlight every day. We chose the breakfast included package, and the spacious and clean dining area was a great place to start our mornings. The pool provided a perfect spot for cooling and relaxing after a day exploring the town and sites. The rooms were clean and regularly maintained. The suites were incredibly air-conditioned, spacious, comfortably housing 5-7 people. Some of the suites equipped with a stovetop and microwave, offering guests flexibility in choosing their amenities during their stay. Prices were reasonable, making our stay good value for money. Our final meal in the banquet hall was truly special, with audiovisual facilities that made it possible to connect our phones and laptops to share pictures, music, and speeches. This added a personal touch to our reunion and created lasting memories. A couple of tips for future guests: - Use the doorknob sign if you want your room cleaned to be clear. - Plan for room service and maintenance to take about 30-45 minutes. Suggestion for the hotel: adding a clothes drying rack would be useful. Overall, our stay at The Thinnai was comfortable, enjoyable, and full of wonderful memories. My two adult daughters and I were here for New Year's Eve as part of our trip around Sri Lanka. Our room was spacious, quiet and clean. The wifi worked. We even had a large fridge and kitchen. The NY Eve banquet was very good though we were too tired from travelling to wait up till midnight. I recommend the crab curry. Service was helpful and friendly. Quiet location overlooking some fields so we heard birdlife at night and in the morning. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a variety of food reflecting the region and culture - different from down south. We would happily come back here and spend more time in Jaffna.

We had an amazing stay at The Thinnai! The atmosphere is lovely, with natural trees and plants all around, creating a very green and refreshing environment. It really feels like a little oasis, so peaceful and relaxing. Our room was spacious, well-maintained, and air-conditioned made our stay really comfortable. A special mention to the fantastic staff! Dasinta at reception gave us such a warm welcome and was always happy to help with any questions. We also had great service from Dilakshi in the restaurant, who was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed for a lovely breakfast. All in all, The Thinnai Hotel gave us with a memorable stay, and we’d highly recommend it!

The hotel has great hospitality and client focused culture. We enjoyed a charming, cozy and delightful stay at The Thinnai. The ambiance, a very comfortable spacious suits, extremely courteous and friendly staff made ours a memorable one. The hotel is centrally located with easy access to iconic attractions in Jaffna. Dining options were very impressive with a variety of delicious dishes including vegetarian to suit everyone. The beautiful landscape surrounding the property added to the charm and I was quite impressed with the steps taken to make it a plastic free environment. Our recent stay at The Thinnai stay was like “A Home away from Home” for us. Highly recommended and we look forward to visiting again soon.

Included on our holiday tour of Sri Lanka we had a crab cooking demonstration at The Thinnai Hotel in Jaffna. Since I’m a vegetarian (with Coeliac Disease) I’d almost cancelled this part of the booking but our guide said we would regret not taking advantage of this wonderful experience and I’m so glad we listened to him. First of all, after explaining about my dietary needs, the cooking demonstration was quickly amended to Paneer Butter Masala, which is something both my husband and I love. Chef Gideon, aided my his colleague, not only showed us step by step how to prepare this in real time but also gave us each a typed copy of the recipe to aide us when we get home. Since we only amended the dish to be demonstrated two hours earlier we were very impressed by how quickly and seamlessly this had been arranged. Secondly after the Paneer Butter Masala had been expertly cooked and amended to meet our individual heat level, we were whisked to the wonderful restaurant on the third floor where we were able to enjoy the dish with all the accompaniments recommended by Chef Gideon. The taste was just out of this world. Words really can’t do justice to the flavours that just danced across the tongue in happy harmony. We have both been really impressed by our whole experience at The Thinnai Hotel. The accommodation and staff were all great but if you’ve read any of our earlier reviews you’ll know that we do love a curry and so we can say hand on heart that this is an experience that will live on in our hearts. We spent with friends two nights in The Thinnai Hotel. We had the Superior Vaalai Suite, which is spacious, separate living room and bedroom with separate A/C-s. The room is clean the staff is friendly, you just need to ask for what you need and they are happy to help almost in real time. A specialty is the in-house cooking lesson for crab-curry which is said to be a local favorite. It is a real experience, do not miss it. Small minuses are the stable but sometimes slow internet, the unavailability of CNN (or perhaps was it my clumsiness?) and the somewhat limited choice of the breakfast. The hotel has a central location.
