I recently stayed at Kathmandu Guest House, and unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve had.
While the location and heritage branding may look appealing, the service is almost non-existent. There is no one available to take orders, room service is zero, and housekeeping never picks up calls. The staff on the floors appeared old, cranky, and completely uninterested in helping guests.
The restaurant experience was equally unpleasant. The waiters were overly aggressive with upselling, which felt uncomfortable and pushy rather than hospitable.
The reception experience was shocking. I politely asked whether I could pay in cash since I was facing issues with digital payment. The elderly staff member at reception responded rudely and dismissively, as if I had caused some serious inconvenience just by asking a basic question. This kind of behavior is unacceptable in any hospitality setting.
I have traveled across multiple countries and stayed in many heritage hotels of various standards, and I can confidently say this is one of the poorest-managed heritage hotels I’ve experienced. Apart from the location and the cultural vibe of the building, there is nothing positive to mention. If you stay here, be prepared for zero service.
Nepal is a beautiful, warm, and welcoming country, but experiences like this can leave travelers feeling frustrated and disappointed. I do not recommend this hotel and strongly request platforms like Trip.com to reconsider listing it unless service standards improve significantly.
