After staying in 4 different hotels in the previous 8 days touring Sri Lanka, it was great to walk through the impressive main doors of the Fortress Hotel and Spa, knowing we had a week to relax. The hotel did not disappoint. My wife and I had booked an Ocean Room, these rooms are located on the upper floor of the hotel with a balcony overlooking the sea. Of course, it is a matter of personnel preference, but these rooms have an advantage over the Beach Rooms below, in that there is always some shade, whereas the rooms on the ground floor have sun on them most of the day. Our room (room 51) was lovely, large comfortable bed, with a view straight through the balcony doors to the sea. A nice seating area with Sofa, very large TV (not that we watched much). The bathroom was impressive, large Jacuzzi bath, huge shower room which would fit 4 people!, together with his and hers basins and plenty of storage space. Rooms are provided with tea/coffee making facilities and two large bottles of water. We drink a lot of water and it was never a problem asking for more. Rooms are serviced twice a day and our room boy Weerasinghe, did a great job of keeping things well looked after. Bedding and towels are changed daily, but you can opt out of this. The main restaurant is called White, we were so happy with it that we ended up eating in the hotel every night, which is unusual for us. The dinner menu is a la carte and there is a huge range of food on offer, from local dishes, Indian food, pizza/pasta, seafood and other international choices. On Saturday evening in addition they had a seafood barbeque/buffet, with fresh fish cooked to order, all excellent. We also thought the prices for food and drink were very reasonable. There is also a separate ‘fine dining’ restaurant, although we didn’t try this. Breakfast is also served in White. This had a good selection of seasonal fruits, various egg options, including our favourite egg hoppers, bacon, etc, together with a range of breads/pastries. The hotel pool and gardens have a large number of beds and umbrellas and even though the hotel was a full occupancy some days there was never a problem getting beds/umbrellas. The Pool was lovely too. The hotel is situated on a long beach and you can walk for miles, the beach was also very clean. Immediately In front of hotel is a small reef and towards high tide you can see many turtles swimming, within a few metres of the hotel. Note although it is a public beach there are some traders selling goods and tour services, but you are never pressurised and most of the time they seem more concerned about whether you like the country. We made a couple of trips out from the hotel, once to Galle Fort, which is a part of the city and about 25 minutes’ drive from the hotel. При бронировании оплатила самый дорогой номер с видом на море, в результате при въезде пытались заселить меня на самый высокий этаж под крышей в маленькую комнатку, в комнате был сильный запах сырости. Я спустилась объяснила, что произвела оплату самого дорогого номера с сайта и попросила переселить, мою просьбу выполнили. В целом отель неплохой, с красивым видом, готовят вкусно, мне даже сделали блюдо которого нет в меню, поинтересовались хочу ли я потанцевать вечером, сами отвезли меня в центр в ресторан у океана где вечером была живая музыка и танцы, попросили написать когда забрать и приехали и привезли обратно в отель абсолютно бесплатно. Я очень часто путешествую и переезжаю с одного отеля в другой, с одной части острова в другую, чтобы увидеть все максимально, а не сидеть в одном месте , если отель мне нравится обычно продлеваю еще на один или несколько дней, на сайте указано заезд после 14 выезд до 12, на следующий день я еще спала в постели мне с 9 утра начали сильно стучатся в дверь и пытаться выпроводить из номера, приходили несколько раз и разные люди, в тот момент мне стало страшно, сильно стучались в дверь я еле успела сумку собрать и в попыхах принять душ. На уточнение по какой причине меня с утра гонят из номера, когда до 12 ч у меня еще есть два часа, в ватсап мне ответили что выезд у них до 10 утра и нужно успеть подготовить номер для следующего гостя, при этом никто мне об этом ранее не сообщал и на сайте указано до 12 часов, поэтому за сервис ставлю низкую оценку, было очень неприятно, никогда ни в одном отеле не видела такого

So many reviewsby people needing the assistance of the manager & staff. For what? One person said they had the manager's phone number to call 24/7. Why? Reception provide you with an information sheet. This hotel must have to deal with so many needy, ignorant, clueless people. Can't blame the hotel for having a generic response to reviews. All the staff at reception & restaurant were friendly, well trained & helpful. My room was clean & spacious. Wardrobe & a long shelf with minibar spirits, kettle & free water. Everything worked fine. Lighting was good. The balcony had a table & 2 chairs. The bed had clean linens, 4 pillows, 2 cushions & provided me with a comfortable sleep. There was a power point on one side. Breakfast was a buffet with an egg station so you won't go hungry. I had dinner one night at the restaurant having ordered yellow fin tuna which was very nice. Staff were attentive & provided excellent service. The pool is a decent size & well maintained. Overall, I had an enjoyable & comfortable experience at what is a true 3 star hotel.

We can not say enough good things about our stay at this beautiful boutique hotel. The entire staff was welcoming and attentive to details. We arrived at 3:00am and the hotel had prepared some fruit and sandwiches for our arrival. My wife is celiac and the staff did an amazing job ensuring there were food options available for her. They even prepared traditional Sri Lankan food for us to try. The beach club gets very busy during the day but we still felt like the only guests there. This place has a great island vibe with music and different entertainment daily. We will definitely be returning before the end of our trip.

We stayed here for 10 nights and had a great experience. What a lovely little Hotel, with excellent staff, a special mention to Kevin and also Beauntie (sorry if spelt wrong )they saw to all our needs Kevin is a gem . All the staff were great, always smiling and happy to say hello when they met you daily. The guy that seen to the beach beds was great. also he always managed to find you a great spot on the beach. Not forgetting the guy that seen to my pre-bed cocktails each night. We had a superior room looking out towards the beach on the ground floor. It was lovely . Any small Repairs that had to be seen to there was no wait involved. After reporting the issues to reception , the lady on reception was very helpful and accommodating. We particularly enjoyed barbecue night which was on a Friday. The food was amazing. Breakfast was also good too You would never leave hungry. The seafood was lovely also. You could use the pool at the other hotel just ask reception and they will send a buggy for you. It will take you there and back free. The only downsides I would mention is the taxi that took us to the airport the driver was falling asleep and had to stop to get a wash and a coffee we had still an hour and a half to go he just left us sitting in the car but this was not the hotels fault, it was scary as he was texting and eating and was all over the road when he continued, not the fault of the hotel . Also, the loud music from the hotels on each side of ours was horrendous so loud. This was out of our hotels control. Unfortunately one morning it went on till 4.30am the morning mostly 2 am at the earliest once again, not our hotels fault . The only other problem we had was the security guard nightwatchman asked us for money on several occasions, we tipped most of the staff but never gave him anything as it’s not good to ask. Sri Lanka is a lovely place and the Hotel we stayed in was amazing in every way , it’s just a shame that the area has been taken over by a lot of tourists from one county in particular 80-90% which is such a shame hardly anyone from the UK .
