Promised Land Lodge

We stayed for 4 nights at Promised Land. It’s a beautifully situated lodge with direct access to the sea. It sits high above cliff formations and has wonderful views of the sunset. There is a lovely pool to cool off in, and towels are provided. Our room was well appointed, stylish minimalism. The bed was comfortable and new, and the sheets were crisp and white. The daily cleaning was superb and speedy. The gardener is very talented and there are copious nooks where he has created beautiful organic masterpieces. As many mention in other reviews, there are many artistic elements scattered throughout the complex and many glorious lazy spaces to truly relax. We found the food to be great and recommend the local dishes which were delicious. There were options for vegetarians which were also tasty. Pre-ordering your dinner by 5pm at the restaurant will ensure you will not wait for your meal when you arrive for dinner at 7.30. The staff were great, with Peter standing out as always ready to assist with any information and suggestions. Mariam in the restaurant was very gracious, kind and always engaging and made our times there special. The lodge is an “beach-vibe lodge”, so don’t expect urban luxuries, as that’s not what it’s about. Electricity in Zanzibar is patchy so there are outages and sometimes the water will therefore not be warm, but cool showers are fine after a hot day outside. Our room was number 20. We had a lovely view of the sea from our balcony and could hear the waves at night. The style of the building is true to local building traditions which have screened wall sections, which allows for the sea breeze to cool the interior. There are no air-conditioners in the rooms, but fans circulate the air. We had a lovely stay and thank Laure for answering all our questions and concerns through our booking process. We recommend Promised Land to anyone wanting a very chilled out, and comfortable Zanzibar holiday!

Promise land Lodge, was a small piece of paradise! It was in an idyllic setting, right on the beach. Albeit it is not near much, the place is so lovely you won’t even want to leave!!! The food at the restaurant is so lovely. All the staff are amazing and super friendly. Also the price was amazing! We loved our stay at promise land & will definitely recommend to travellers coming to Zanzibar. It will definitely exceed your expectations.

Better than expected. Food was good. Service was excellent, every single person was very nice and helpful. Location perfect for quiet relaxation. Rooms vere excellent and very good cleaning. Free kayaking. Whole hotel area was picture perfect and many places to chill and sunbathe. If you have to think of something negative it was that my tummy did not like the food a few times (=diarrhea episode), but what we discussed with other travelers, it happens in every hotel….

First of all, the staff at promised land lodge are exceptionally friendly and helpful, we were asked every day of our 5 day stay if we would like our room cleaned. There is a decent selection of food available on the menu, including options for vegetarians. The location is on the sea front which is stunning, however, with the tide coming in and out, there is no beach as such. You can walk over the rock pools when the tide is out but sandals should be worn as there are sea urchins and other spiky sea creatures in the pools. You can book dolphin tours at the lodge and be picked up from the jetty there which is ideal. The accommodation was ‘rustic’ and simple, there was no kettle or aircon in the room and the power would often cut out. It is a nice place to stay if you enjoy relaxing, but there is not much else to do other than that. We walked about 1.5 miles into the closest ‘village’, however there is not much to see or do there. There are a couple of restaurants on the path leading to promised land lodge. Overall, our stay was not ‘luxury’ but satisfying, although general cleanliness of the surrounding area was not great. If you’re looking for a beautiful place to relax then this is perfect. Only down side was no kettle in room, low water pressure & no hot water in shower.Intermittent power means that room fan doesn’t always work and room can get very warm. Lots of construction going on. Staff were exceptional. Food basic but more than adequate. Best were the prawns and fish curry.

Absolutely love this place. It has that real authentic feel of zanzibar that not too many places on the island have anymore. We stayed in the bunglow overlooking the ocean. The location of this bungalow allowed for a lot of privacy and of course amazing views. Sitting on our terrace, cocktail in hand watching the sunset was perfect. There are so many places around the bar for people to chill, activities like volleyball, badminton, play park and kayaking to keep the kids busy. The place is very well maintained and the staff very welcoming and professional. Thank u for a wonderful stay.
