Where do I begin? We couldn't find an entrance way to the parking area. There was no sign to say entrance. We entered the front door as we thought that was the entrance way. No one was around and finally after a few minutes a bartender? came out and told us the entrance was in the back or upstairs. We drove around the back and parked our car only to be told it was valet parking and he would need our keys. No where did it say that. It did say on the website limited parking we have to pay for. We then proceeded to the registration desk which was a very dark area, not lit very well. The clerk kept sitting in his chair and didn't say much, not a real welcoming event. The valet person followed us in and once again explained it was valet/limited parking and would need our keys and a $19.00 fee. We said ok and as we got our room keys we went up to the room, 4th floor, once again a very dark atmosphere. The room was set up very strange with a sitting area in the center of the hotel room, not where you could see downtown or the lake. The bed was in the room where the city view could be seen, but only buildings. We were not very pleased and decided we didn't want the room. I called and the desk clerk spoke to the manager and said we could have an upgraded room with a somewhat better view, and wouldn't have to pay anymore. We asked if we could see the room first but he said we could not. We had to reserve it first. We felt that was strange and decided we wanted our money back and would leave. The desk clerk said he would cancel our stay. When we went back downstairs a different person (Ireland was her name) on the desk, very friendly, and she said she would cancel the room and we should see a credit in three to five days. We have stayed at the Crowne Plaza before and it was wonderful, but we thought we would like to try something different. We were very disappointed to cut our stay.
