Hotel berhampiran Domaine la Bastide Blanche, Le Castellet

My daughter and I needed time away, This was the perfect hotel, in the most beautiful part of France, with the best facilities, and we loved it. La Cadiere was a simple but stunning village where everybody made us feel welcome. Our rooms in the hotel were clean, stylish, attractive and just what we needed. The pool was just gorgeous. The restaurant is simply wonderful.

This hotel is outstanding on all fronts and we enjoyed our stay from beginning to end. From the moment we arrived, greeted in the foyer and overlooking the pool and beach below, we were so pleased to be here! We asked about a sea-view and were upgraded for a fee per night. Our room was overlooking the water on the top level with a balcony which we enjoyed so very much. We visited the restaurant on our first day for lunch as we waited for our room to be ready and enjoyed and the service, champagne and food were wonderful. Overall, our housekeeping was good and the attention by the pool upstairs, including aperol spritz in the afternoon, were fabulous. We also enjoyed cocktails in the lobby areas on the sofas and the bartender was outstanding. We asked for a car ride to the train station our last morning and all worked out quite well--lovely gent and again, great front desk staff. Highly recommend this fantastic escape as it is located just a short walk to the village and would make for a romantic getaway anytime! We would gladly return!

Unbelievably disappointed with this hotel and a majority of its staff. We experienced a tragic void of cleanliness, professionalism and hospitality during our entire stay at the Mercure Hotel in Toulon, France. Unfortunately, our fruitless attempts to resolve these issues directly with on-site management (which does not exist) and corporate personnel (impossible to contact) leave us feeling violated of our dignity and robbed of our time and money. We hope the following information will help others in the future, including travelers, hospitality staff, Sébastien Bazin, Gilles Pélisson, and the like. CLEANLINESS: Upon our arrival, we could literally see dust and dirt on all of the shelves, counter tops, balconies and floors of the hotel and room. Even the carpet in the room was so dirty it stained the bottom of our clean socks. The toilet room smelled bad, like, well, a used toilet. We politely asked for it to be cleaned, however, no one ever came, not even to freshen up the room at any point during our stay. COMFORT: The air conditioning did not work in our room, ever. When we spoke to the front desk staff about the sweltering temperature of 90 degrees F in our room (even though the thermostat read 16 C) and were informed to “leave the room for awhile to let it work”. We left at 3:30PM and returned at 11PM to a less sweltering temperature of 85 degrees F in our room. We asked staff member available, Alexi/Alex at the front desk, if he could fix the thermostat. He begrudgingly came to take a look and was profusely sweating after one minute in the room. He could not turn on the air conditioning even though the thermostat read the same 16C. He said we could open the window, but that would just let in the bugs in and turn off the air completely. He also suggested we leave the room to wait 15 minutes for it to turn on…? Given that that strategy did not work when suggested earlier, we asked for a different room with working air conditioning. He laughed at us and said no because it would not make his manager happy. We said we would happily speak to the manager about the issue and he laughed again, said no, and stated management is not available on the weekends. We then asked for some sort of a solution and Alexi/Alex appeared annoyed and said “there is nothing to be done” and that he had to get back to his “other duties” at the hotel. Turns out it was actually the end of his shift and he did not want to stay any longer that his end time to deal with this problem. We noted that the sheets and bedding were surprisingly all polyester, which doesn’t breathe like cotton, and acts like a heat conductor and made it more difficult to achieve sleep. He laughed again and said all the rooms are the same and there is nothing to be done. We went back to the front desk to ask for help from the next staff member and found that the only person available was a very kind, intelligent security guard named Cherkre(sp?). We very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We stayed in a junior suite with 2 rooms. The room was comfortable and clean, and the staff were very friendly at all times. Just to note a couple of things - Air conditioning in second room kept leaking. We did raise and attempts were made to fix it, but it continued to leak. Pool is deep all round No pool towels provided We did not opt for breakfast as €15 p/p seemed steep and there is a bakers just up the road which also does coffee. 20 minute walk uphill from Port is not for everyone but helped work off the food and drink!!

Location of this Best Western hotel is superb, seconds from the town centre and yet very quiet at night. Breakfast was very good with a great choice, especially if various cheeses and sweet items. Coffee poor though from the digital screen drinks machine. Air con was very effective, we paid extra for a balcony and I would it was worth it. Balconies look out onto the public gardens of the town and a kids play park with nice views to the castle on the hill and the mountains. The room was small, we only had small suitcases, had we had a big suitcase it might have had to have gone out on to the balcony for storage due to limited space. Shower room was also small and quite difficult to get into the shower cubicle. All in all I would definitely use the hotel again, primarily due to location and breakfast.

I stayed here while attending a Rugby WC match in Marseille as I did not want to stay in the city there and also after the match I was headed towards Nice which meant that Toulon is nicely situated on the main railway line! The hotel is directly opposite the station but not noisy at all except for the church bells next door but that really isn’t an issue. Clean and comfortable, no coffee making facilities in the room but that is common with B&B as a chain.
