Maenan Abbey Hotel

A beautiful gem nestled in the Welsh countryside. Gloriously retaining its traditional features with a spectacular staircase as you enter. The Christmas tree had just been delivered and filled a perfect space snuggled next the the grand staircase upto the first floor ceiling. Greeted by the manager David and welcomed like I had been there regularly. Rooms are grand spacious and warm considering the age of the building. For dinner we were welcomed into the lounge and greeted by a open fire and peacocks adorning the walls and cushions reflecting the history of the Abbey. Our order was taken in the lounge and drinks either brought to the lounge or to the dining table. When our food was ready we were called to the dining room. Breakfast offered a Welsh breakfast or a picked choice. All cooked perfectly as requested. You will meet the welcoming committee of Juno and Bert two special doggy friends who will ensure you feel welcome. A super experience and pleasant stay with such a warm and pleasant host. We visited today for Sunday lunch and were so impressed. We all had delicious 3 course meals with coffee for £22.50 each. The staff were very friendly and we were served our coffee in the lovely lounge with a real fire in the hearth. If you are in the area this is certainly a place not to be missed.

We went for Sunday lunch, I was not overly keen as had been many years before and at best was average. The restaurant was very quiet, and I wasn't expecting much. I have to say I couldn't fault anything, a good varied menu that catered for all, 2 homemade soups, that were delicious, a good selection of main courses including 3 meat choices, presentation was really nice, food was tasty and hot, big bowl of fresh vegetables, the staff were smiley friendly and really attentive, inside is a little dated but is in keeping with the style of venue, I actually really liked as it was relaxing and welcoming, we will without hesitation go again, at £21 for 3 courses I thought was a bargain, the house wine was really good, the sticky toffee pudding was amazing. Great place Great food Really nice staff, what else do you need...apart from a nanny nap when I got home.

Stayed one night with my partner and our very excited golden retriever. We had a fabulous time. The building itself is very beautiful and in a lovely area, 10 mins from Betwys y Coed. The rooms are decorated in keeping with the style of the building, I’m glad they haven’t modernised it too much as it has so much character. The rooms were clean and tidy, on check in they upgraded us to a bigger room so we had plenty of space for the dog. We stayed in room one which was lovely and spacious with a jucauzzi bath. We enjoyed a lovely 2 course meal which was incredible, and very very reasonably priced. I can’t believe the amount that was on the menu, steak, lamb, duck all beautifully presented. They have a lovely lounge area with an open fire. The dog was allowed in the bar whilst we ate our meals and in the lounge. The best part about our stay was the service. David the manager was so accommodating and made us feel very welcome. The lady at breakfast was also very polite, friendly and great sense of humour. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend it to all our family and friends. Take the bad reviews with a pinch of salt, we couldn’t fault our stay at all.

What a stunning building in wonderful surroundings. We'd popped in last night for a drink and liked it so much that we decided to return for our dinner this evening. What a great decision that was. David the owner was a terrific host and regailed us with interesting stories of his travels. The food was to die for. We shared a portion of Tempura prawns for our starter which were delicious and then both went for the herb crusted lamb roast dinner. Great portions and cooked to perfection. The vegetables were great as was the roast spuds and mash. Would highly recommend a visit and we will most certainly eat here again.

Stopped for a hot drink and cake. Don’t bother. Odd place and a little unnerving. Staff had no idea - didn’t know what a laté was and the cakes seemed to be the frozen kind from iceland type of thing. £20 down the drain. Faulty Towers like - so only good thing was the laughs!!
